Coach Amy swam competitively in a club at the age of 4, through high school and into college. Her favorite strokes were butterfly and long-distance freestyle. Through high school and early in her career she taught swim lessons. She began working with NPAC as an assistant coach in October 2017. Coach Amy has enjoyed looking at swimming from a coaching perspective and passing her love and knowledge for the sport on to the youth of our community.
She has been teaching for 22 years and has taught at the elementary and/or middle school in the Fairbanks North Star Borough for 19 years. She completed her undergraduate work at the State University of New York at Potsdam in Elementary Education and Mathematics, and her Master’s and PhD work through the College of St. Scholastica, Capella University, and Walden University focusing on Curriculum and Instruction, K-12 education, and Educational Leadership and Administration.
When not at the pool, Coach Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, Bob, and daughter, Bailey, who has also picked up a love for swimming. She enjoys swimming, cross-country, and reading in her free time.
