Jeffrey Gavin

    Coach Jeff has been coaching for the past 8 years at Seneca Valley.  He works with all age groups and abilities from Novice to High School, and beginner to National Qualifiers.  Coach Jeff began swimming at Pine Richland Aquatics and excelled at distance freestyle.  He swam for IUP and was selected to All-Conference team while there.  Coach Jeff continues to be involved in swimming because of his love for competition and desire to bring the best out of all athletes.  He believes proper technique and focused swimming is the key to success in young swimmers.  Coach Jeff will be coaching his 9th zone trip this summer.  He continues to come back to it because of the high level of competition, the excitement of the meet, and because he is able to coach some of the best athletes in AMS.

Mitchell A Schall

Coach Mitch has been coaching for the past 8 years, and currently is working over at Riverside Aquatic Club of Ellwood. He has spent the years working with different athletes of various ages in skills including eight and unders all the way up to High School seniors. Coach Mitch started swimming with Seneca Valley, and continued on to Notre Dame College a small NCAA Division II School located in Cleveland Ohio. He specialized in sprint freestyle, and while at NDC he finished Top 20 all time in points scored, and was the Most Improved Athlete award winner as a sophomore. He believes that building a strong foundation for each stroke is the key to success in the pool and the belief that to be successful in anything you must work hard and have fun. Coach Mitch will be going on his first zones trip and he cannot contain the excitement! He believes as someone who grew up swimming in this area that this is a great honor to be apart of!

Todd A Sterlitz

Todd was an All-American swimmer at Allegheny College and has been coaching on and off for about 30 years since then.  He currently coaches with Franklin Area Swim Team (FAST).  Before that Todd  was with Valley Points Family YMCA where he was the head coach. 

Todd works with all age groups and is proud that many of his swimmers have progressed from novice swimming to college swimming and beyond.  He believes that swimming is a lifetime sport and that the technical skills and social interactions achieved through swimming lead to very successful kids in and out of the pool.  His favorite stroke to teach is butterfly and he was a distance swimmer in high school and college.  He has coached at multiple District, State and National YMCA meets as well as several Eastern Zone meets as an AMS coach.

Todd and his wife Sandy own Pugliese Flowers in Vandergrift and Sandy is an owner of Rehabilitation Innovations in Murrysville.  Both of their kids, Parker and Amara, swim on the team and love the sport.  They have two cats, Flipturn and Laneline.

James M Koval

Coach James Koval has three years of experience coaching, including one year at his current position working with the 12 & under swimmers at the Uniontown Area YMCA. He began swimming competitively at age 11 in his hometown of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and represented the SC Zone Team in 2011. He is a 2018 graduate of WVU where he competed primarily in the long distance events, most notably earning an NCAA B-cut and a silver medal in the 1650 Free at the 2017 Big 12 Champs. Since wrapping up his own swimming career, Coach James has only become more invested and passionate about coaching, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the pool deck every day. This is his first time coaching at the high level of an all-star zone team, but James is very excited to make the trip as fun and memorable for the AMS squad as his own experience as a younger swimmer was.

Luke J Modrak

Luke is back again on the AMS Zones Team after returning to the staff last summer following a brief hiatus. In his thirteenth year coaching, he has coached all levels and all types of programs, from developmental athletes to Junior National athletes. He currently is the Head Coach of Trinity Swim Club and Trinity High School in Washington, PA, where their scholastic programs have had their most successful seasons in almost twenty years. Previously, he was the Head Assistant Coach at PTSC & Peters Township for three years, the Assistant Coach at SFAC & South Fayette for three years, and the Head Coach at Seton-La Salle for four years.  On the dry side of things, Luke is a member of the AMS Technical Planning Committee and the AMS Coaches Rep Elect, served on the AMS Board of Directors as the Technical Planning Chair for four years, served on the Eastern Zone Technical Planning Committee for four years, and acted as a staff coach at the AMS Mighty East Swim Camp for two years, in addition to a number of task forces at the LSC and EZ levels. He also serves as the Co-Director of the South Hills Swim Conference and is an active coach in the WPCCSA. Coach Luke is excited to be back on staff because the AMS Zones Team illustrates some of the best aspects of the sport - coming together with a lot of energy as a team to race, have fun, and race!

Atalie A Abranovic

Coach Attie, a native of Kittanning, PA has been coaching the Richard G. Snyder YMCA stingray swim team for the last five years working with all age group swimmers ranging from eight and under to senior level. Coach Attie was introduced to the sport as a YMCA swimmer at the age of six and then competed as an AMS swimmer with GPAC and Team Pittsburgh Aquatics throughout her high school years. She continued her swimming career at the University of Maryland specializing in breaststroke and was a part of the 2005 ACC Championship Team. 

She returned to PA from the DC metro area in 2014 and found herself back on the pool deck, this time in a coaching role. She is a big believer in coaching kids to work hard while having fun in order to gain experiences which ultimately help to shape and inspire athletes. This is Coach Attie’s first time as an AMS zones coach and she is looking forward to working with the many talented Allegheny Mountain athletes and coaches. Some of Coach Attie’s favorite age group swimming memories are from her past summer zones trips and she is very excited to create more memories this time as a coach!

Sheryl M Schrecongost

Coach Sheryl has been coaching for 6 years and is currently with the Fox Chapel Killer Whales.  She enjoys working with all age groups.  She was a high school swimmer and loved the 50 Freestyle.  She believes that everything you put in is everything you take out.  You must set goals for yourself big or small.  She believes that swimming is a way to teach life lessons by challenging swimmers in ways they did not think possible.  Always apply the will to win and and enjoy the sport!  She is super excited to be coaching her first zones team!!

Megan I Bilko

Coach Megan has been coaching for the past 3 years at Team PEAQ. She primarily works with 12 & Under swimmers, but is involved with coaching all ages and abilities through the high school level. Coach Megan grew up swimming in Central Ohio and Western Pennsylvania on various teams, before settling in at Peters Township Swim Club. In college she primarily swam distance freestyle and IM for Grove City College where she became a 7-Time All-American. Coach Megan is a firm believer in technique development for all ages and for swimmers to practice good habits that will transfer to their races. This is Coach Megan’s first year at Zones and she is excited to be coaching and supporting the swimmers of AMS as they race their hearts out!
