I am Martha Kelliher, born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, third child of eight born to Ed and Sheila Murphy. My education includes St. Thomas the Apostle Grade School and Xavier High School. I attended University of Arizona and Arizona State University, graduating from ASU with a Bachelor of Arts. I moved to Sierra Vista in 1986 to own and operate Arizona Southern Tire and Automotive Services, Inc., DBA Goodyear Tire and Automotive Service Center, for 11 years at 297 E. Fry Blvd. After selling this business, I married John F. Kelliher, Jr., and experienced the GREATEST blessing of my life—becoming the mother of Gracie and Katie Kelliher.
Swimming experience—ages 4-13, Arizona Country Club swim team member; swam in high school and at the University of Arizona under Walt and Nancy Schlueter
Present time—Thanks to SVTT, I have my first and second year coaching certifications. Most recently I obtained The American Swimming Coaches Association, Level II USA-SWIMMING certification.
Personal philosophy—The purpose in life is to help each other get to heaven. And life is “Anything you can believe it to be.”
Coaching philosophy—Keep your head down…focus on your own race…and never give up. I feel it is all in the details. Hence my passion for technique. I love encouraging our swimmers to believe in themselves and experience their own greatness.
Favorite sports motto—“Practice does NOT make perfect. Practice makes PERMANENT. Perfect practice makes perfect.”
