John began swimming competitively at the age of 4 years old for the Irvine Novaquatics. A swimming career that lasted fifteen years and has swam for such organizations as Nova, Azot and Mission Viejo. John is a former Southern California age group record holder and top ten swimmer in Southern California. During his time he earned top 16 times in the nation and was part of Southern California's Zone Team numerous times. John participated at Junior Nationals earning top eight finishes, and swam at Nationals, and USA open meets.
In 2015, John had the opportunity to be part of the Piranha swim team in Loma Linda as the Head Age group Coach. The age group program flourished under his guidance for 3 years landing more than 8 swimmers on Southern California’s Top 16 list. John has coached numerous athletes to Junior Olympics, WAG, JAG, Eastern Committee Championships, SCS Senior Development, Sectionals and Futures. Earning top finishes at J.O’s, WAG, JAG, and ECC. Coach John has also helped with the development of swimmers reaching the Junior National level during his time with the Piranha swim team where he was also an assistant for the senior group and was responsible for the dryland program of the age group swimmers and senior group.
During his swimming career John has earned multiple Junior Olympic Championships titles, and multiple CIF championships titles while attending SBHS. Coach John is the only swimmer in history to win a Gold Medal for SBHS High school swimming. Coach John holds every single High school swim record At SBHS. John was the Inland Empire athlete of the year in 2007. In 2007 John was awarded a full ride scholarship for his swimming accomplishments.
