Peter J Lambert

Director/Head Coach




  • BA in Psychology, University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • UCLA Kinesiology Certification
  • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Health Fitness Instructor (HFI)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
  • 25 years of Coaching experience
  • USA Swimming National Qualifier in Multiple events 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986
  • As the Head Swimming Coach at Marlborough High School, he coached championship teams, winning ten out of the last eleven seasons. In 2010, he coached his team to a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championship and was nominated as High School Coach of the year across all sports by the California Coaches Association.   In 2015, his team was the CIF runner-up.
  • Develops college recruited National, Junior National,  Sectional and Junior Olympic athletes
  • Offers four different pools for athletes in the Los Angeles area

  • Coaching Goal: to coach a swimmer to the final heat (top 8) of the Olympics
  • Coach Lambert is very passionate about the sport of swimming and had the honor to coach both of his kids Alex and Emily to college swimming programs.

David Wilson

Assistant Head Coach- Verdugo Pool



  • Started swimming competitively at the age of 5
  • Proudly comes from a strong swimming family background
  • By 10, he had captured over 20 Michigan USS and YMCA State Championships, mainly in Breaststroke, Freestyle and Individual Medley events
  • Holds the Michigan State Record in the 10 and Under 50 Meter Breaststroke, a record he has held since August 1992
  • Swam at Ernest W. Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan where he was an All-American and qualified for Junior Nationals in 5 events
  • Competitive swimmer at USC where he was recruited, and swam with Olympian Erik Vendt, under command of Olympic coach Mark Schubert
  • Coached with Brentwood Middle School, Immaculate Heart High School, the Los Angeles Swim Club and then joined BLAST in 2007
  • Coaching Philosophy:  similar to Head Coach Peter Lambert, swimmers who enjoy the sport will swim at their highest potential.  Coach David believes that 95% or better practice attendance is the best way to improve.
  • Coach David works hard with the other Coaches to design workouts based>
  • Coach David is passionate about the  nutrition of our swimmers. Basic principals being 1) lots of fluids (especially water) during the day 2) low processed sugar intake 3) lean, organic meats if possible 4) extra vegetables and fruits. 
  • Coaching Goal: My ultimate achievement as a coach would be to be a good role model and positive influence.

  • BA from Setan Hall University
  • 10 years Coaching experience
  • After being part of Southern California swimming, decided to join the successful program Blast has to offer it’s athletes
  • As a youth, Coach Hide swam under Gary Anderson
  • Has developed Junior Olympic & National level swimmers
  • Coaching Philosophy: Let student athletes enjoy swimming and create opportunities to experience college level swimming and beyond

Oscar Tippol

  • Coach Oscar is in the process of obtaining a degree in Education

David Blanchard

Head Develpement Coach-LA Tennis Club


  • Coaching 16+ years, Coach David has been with Blast since 2008.
  • Passionate about the water, Coach David has been a competitive swimmer, water polo player, and hockey player since grade school. As a competitive club swimmer, he participated in the Junior Olympics and Q qualification meets. Throughout high school, he broke several school records in the 50 Freestyle, 4x50 Free Relay, and 4x100 Free Relay. He was named Captain his senior year.  David swam all four years on the varsity squad and was the team's MVP three times.
  • David continued to advance in both his swimming and water polo careers until acquiring a serious sports-related injury. During his recovery period, he began coaching and became aware of his passion for playing a role in watching other athletes grow, advance, and have fun in the process.
  • Coaching Philosophy: the one key that has made my practice successful is to let the kids be kids, but set a structure of hard work, discipline, team work, being responsible and teaching good moral values through the sport of swimming.
  • Coaching Goal: my ultimate achievement is to be able to both teach and coach at the age group level.  I find that working with kids makes me feel whole and it's such a rewarding experience knowing you are making an impact.

Adam Carl Matthew

Head Coach-West Hollywood



  • Coach Adam grew up in the water. His mother was an aquatics director, swim coach, and ARC instructor.>
  • During this time, Coach Adam swam in numerous Age Group Regional and Zone championships, culminating in Junior and Senior National competitions in his later years. In high school, he swam in four consecutive State Championships, competing in a total of 7 consolation and 6 final heats with 3 State Championship titles and 2 additional top 4 placings.
  • Coach Adam has extensive experience teaching Lifeguard classes, Special Needs/Adaptive aquatic instruction, and overseeing the city swim lesson program in Port Townsend WA. He became the Technique Coach for the Port Townsend Swim Team and a Strength/conditioning Coach for Tsunami Synchro. For 8 years, he coached for both teams with a primary focus>
  • Coach Adam has been in the LA area since 2013 and has helped develop Junior Olympic swimmers for other teams. He looks forward to using his skills and talents in developing Blast swimmers in West Hollywood.

  • Coaching Goal: the cumulative achievements of the swimmers that I coach or have coached; being able to see the excitement>
  • Coach Adam’s greatest moment in coaching was seeing the joy>
  • Coach Adam believes that successful swimmers understand the “why” we swim the way we do. Having a deeper understanding of technique allows the swimmer to think critically of their stroke and performance.

Jason Peter Bergstrom

  • Swam at Texas A&M 2010 
  • 6 time All-American NCAA Division 1 
  • 3 time school record holder and was a Junior National Finalist.  
  • Coach Jason has worked with athletes with a wide range of ability levels, from a first time swimmer to Olympic trial qualifiers. 
  • Unique coaching approach that is specific to each swimmer and determination to help everyone achieve his or her full potential!

Seungki Lee

Marlborough Site Age Group Coach



  • 30+ years experience coaching. Coach Lee started coaching around the age of 20 and has been coaching in the USA for past 11 years.
  • Coach Lee was a representative of Seoul and won various national competitions
  • Coaching Philosophy: “No pain, No gain”. Coach Lee believes it is important for young swimmers to develop great habits from the beginning.
  • Life Motto: “Always faithful and consistent
  • Coach Lee goals for his age group is to develop strong IM swimmers for high school and college
  • Although known as Coach Seungki, everyone has called him Coach Lee since 2007
  • Coach Lee has received his ASCA Level 2 certification for Stroke skills.
  • Coach Lee lives in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles
  • Coach Lee is happy to be apart of BLAST and making a great team. Coach Lee stated, “I am 52 yr old now but I my age does not count anymore, it is my passion for the kids.”

Jesse Novak

West Hollywood Site Senior Coach



  • Graduated in 2017, with a degree in exercise science from Rowan University
  • 4 years of coaching experience, started with BLAST in 2017.
  • 2016 Olympic Trial Qualifier
  • 2018 US Summer Nationals finalist in the 100 freestyle
  • 3 time Division 3 National Champion
  • 8 time Division 3 All American
  • Currently training under Coach Dave Salo with Trojan Swim Club for the 2020 Olympics
  • Coach Jesse was the strength coach for the Chinese Asian games team this past summer
  • Coaching Philosophy: High quality efforts produce high quality swims.

  • Coach Jesse’s goal is to provide a fun atmosphere where athletes are encouraged to hard work at a high level swimming
