Tyler D Prescott
Assistant Head Coach / Lead Silver Coach
This is Tyler's first year as the Head Age Group Coach for the Sharks. As a Coach for the Sharks, he hopes to push swimmers to do their best and to have fun.
Tyler grew up in Meriden, Connecticut where he swam for the Meriden Silver Fins for 10 years. During that time, he won several different Championship titles including Age-Groups, Zones, Seniors and Sectionals. He attended two years at Savannah College of Art and Design and won NAIA National Championships. He later transferred to Southern Connecticut State University where he became an All-American Division II Athlete.
Tyler's love for the sport is unquestionable, and it truly shows in the passion he has developed for teaching young kids how to swim, whether as an assistant coach for the Silver Fins, or an instructor to kids with special needs or disabilities.
Lead Bronze Coach
MaryKate is our Head Development Coach. She oversees our Bronze Team program. This is her 5th season with the Sharks.
MaryKate grew up in Manchester, Connecticut developed a passion for swimming as a child at her summer swim club and later swimming for several different US teams throughout the greater Hartford area. Her love for competitive swimming continued into college where she swam for Emory University (Atlanta, GA) and earned Division III All-American honors in 2000 and 2001.
As a coach for the Sharks, she hopes to help each young swimmer reach their individual goals, enjoy the camaraderie of their teammates and have fun!
Today, MaryKate lives in West Hartford with her husband and three daughters (who also swim for the Sharks). She works full-time as a science instructor with the Virtual Learning Academy Charter School of New Hampshire.
Assistant Bronze Team Coach
This is Melissa's 3rd season with the Sharks.
Melissa is the Director of Corportate Development at the MJCC. On the pool deck, she coaches our youngest swimmers, as well as serving in the Team Admin role. Melissa is the mother of 3 girls - all swimmers on our team. She grew up swimming recreationally, and recently got back into the pool, where she notoriously brags about her slow and steady mile.
Julie K Madison
Assistant Gold Team Coach
Julie has been swimming her entire life - beginning at 9 months in the baby classes, and she feels most at home in or around the water. When she was on swim team, she loved to practice, and was always the first one in the water. She swam USA and High School, where her favorite events were the 50, 100, 200, and 500 free, as well as the 100 and 200 backstroke, making states in the 500 free. Julie took a break for college but came back to the sport with a fierce vengeance in her early 20’s, tackling open water swimming races and milestones. Her open water accomplishments include: 10k Barbados (Multiple Swims), 10 Mile Open water national championship Vermont (2014), 8 Mile Alligator Lighthouse Islamorada, Fl (2015, Age Group Winner, top 4 Overall Female); 10K Little Red Lighthouse Hudson River (Age Group Winner), 10K Swim Miami (Top 3 Overall Female, Age Group Winner 2016), along with numerous open water solo swims. Julie has been coaching swimming for 5 years now and loves sharing her knowledge and experience to transform seasoned and novice swimmers.
Assistant Bronze Coach
This is Nichol's 6th season with the sharks.
Nichol coaches our Bronze and Silver swimmers.
In Nichol's 1st season with the
sharks she held shape and develop many of our future superstar
swimmers. Her enthusiasm and love for the sport and
development of each swimmer has help build one of the best 8/under
programs in the state. In her second season she built on the 1st
year and over saw one of the best 8/under programs in the state.
Since then the team has had multiple 8/under champions. She
excited about her new challenge to coach the younger 9 & 10
Nichol grew up in Maine and the swim team was her first introduction to sports as well as her first love. There was no place She would rather have been than the pool. Fun and friends were the primary motivators and then came the joy of best times and improvement. Nichol swam from age 8 through freshman year of high school at which time She decided to pursue running on a year round basis. Nichol had a state record in the 50 back as a 10 year old and several freestyle relay records. She competed at the university of maine on a track and field/cross country scholarship for all four years. Nichol got back in the pool a few years ago with the though that She might give triathlons a try, but right now her focus is on improving her marathon time. Nichol lives in West Hartford with her husband Ted and 5 children which includes 2 sets of twins! Assistant Silver Coach
This is Karyl’s 8th season as a Shark’s coach, where she coaches our Bronze and Silver swimmers.
Karyl began swimming at the age of 10 for the Windsor Water Rats. She spent summers during high school working as a lifeguard at Goslee Pool in Windsor, CT. Karyl was a three year letter swimmer for Windsor H.S. She then swam at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine during her freshman year. Karyl returned to competitive swimming in 1999 with Masters swimming until shortly before the birth of her first child, Sophia. Sophia is a sophomore at Hall High School, where she swims on their team, as well as the Sharks. Karyl also has a son, Jackson. Karyl is Superior Court judge currently sitting in New London.
Assistant Gold Coach
This is Juan's 6th season as a Sharks Coach.
Juan Coaches - Age Group Swimmers
Juan began competitive swimming at the age of 6. He swam for Hartford Public High School and then went on to swim at Southern Connecticut State University where he was a captain during his senior year. He is currently a physical education teacher at Hartford Public Schools and Head Swim Coach for Bulkeley Boys High School Team. In addition he the Head Dive Coach for both Conard and Hall Girls Dive Team. He was the head recreational swim coach at Pope Pool for 16 years and has been coaching at the high school level for over 20yrs. His son and daughter, Kobe and Kali joined the the team 7 years ago. His Daughter Lexi is her 4th season with the team.
Assistant Silver/Gold Coach
This is Wendy’s first season with the Sharks. She is joining the Sharks after previously coaching a local Y/USA swim team.
Born and raised in Farmington, CT, Wendy joined the sport of swimming and diving later in life, and was a member of the Farmington High School swim team. She continued to compete as an athlete on the Central Connecticut State University Division I Swimming & Diving and Track Teams. She later went on to The Ohio State University where she completed her doctorate degree in Education and then came back to CT to start her career and family. She returned back to her passion of competing in running and triathlons, which is where she began working as an assistant coach for the adult swim clinics for the Hartford Extended Area Triathletes club since 2012 with her training buddies. As her children began competing competitively in swimming, Wendy became a very active swim mom and now a USA Swim coach, which she fell in love with! She absolutely loves coaching, talking about proper & efficient swimming techniques, and being on deck with the age group swimmers.
Wendy currently resides in Farmington with her husband Frank & two children, Matthew and Julia, who will also be joining the Sharks this season. She is an educator and department supervisor in the Simsbury Public schools. She is excited to join the Shark family.
