John Steen Kjaerulff
Coach John began swimming
at the age of 6 in the Canary Islands, Spain where he was a top age
group swimmer. Coach John moved to Florida at the age of 15
to train with the Mission Bay Makos in Boca Raton where he swam for
world known coaches such as Jack Roach, Steve Bultman and Michael
Lohberg. Coach John was a member of the 3 time Florida State
High School champion, Spanish River High School. He attended
Florida Atlantic University where he was an All American with his
relay team. Coach John began his coaching career with the
Coral Springs Swim Club in 1994 as an assistant coach to the late 6
time Olympic Coach, Michael Lohberg in 1995, He was named Head Age
Group Coach. He led the team to several FGC Junior Olympic
titles. In 1996-1997 coach John was selected as a member of
the All Star and Southern Zones coaching staff team. In 2008
he retired from coaching to spend more time with his family.
After a small break, Coach John took the Head Coach Position
for the YMCA of South Palm Beach, where he coached for 1 year
before starting the East Coast Aquatic Club. Coach John is an
ASCA Level 3 Coach and a lifetime member.
Age Group Coach
Coach Alison grew up and
began her swimming career right here in Palm Beach County.
She attended Suncoast High School where She made finals at
the State Championship meet her senior year and was selected as
Palm Beach County High School swimmer of the year. She then
attended the University of Arkansas where she received a
scholarship. While at Arkansas she excelled by posting
National and Olympic Trials qualifying times and was a scoring
contributor for her school at the SEC Conference
Championships. At Arkansas, an emphasis was placed on
stroke technique, which gives her a proficient knowledge in
teaching proper swimming skills. She has worked with swimmers
of all ages during college summers and her love for the sport has
now guided her to pursue a career in
Channon H MacEachern
Age Group Coach
Coach Channon grew up in Southern California and has been involved in swimming for over 30 years as a club swimmer, high school swimmer, college swimmer, and coach. She swam for the Mission Viejo Nadadores under Mark Schubert and attended Southern Methodist University (SMU) on a full swimming scholarship. Some of Coach Channon's swimming accomplishments include *1984 National Champion in the 400 IM *Competed internationally as a member of the U.S. National Team for years 1982-1986 *Gold medalist in both IM's at the World University Games *6th place finish at the 1984 Olympic Trials in the 200 breast. Channon has coached age group and masters swimmers of all levels and is excited to bring her experiences and passion for the sport to ECAC.
Coach Brendan McCarthy grew
up swimming competitively at the age of 6 in Charlottesville,
Virginia. In 1979 he was High School National Champion in the 200
yard freestyle. Coach Brendan attended The University of Alabama on
a full scholarship, swimming under five time Olympic Swimming Coach
Don Gambril and former USA Swimming Coach Jonty Skinner. His goal
is to teach the benefits of swimming in a fun and meaningful way
that encourages personal growth both mentally and physically.
Coach Brendan hopes to share the joy of individual success in a
team environment. Coach Brendan is no stranger to the ECAC
family, both of his sons Neil (16) & Owen(14) swam with us
years ago and will also rejoin our family alongside their dad!
Swimming continues to be a part of Coach Brendan’s daily life
and he is excited to share his knowledge & love for the
Age Group Coach
Coach Janet is an avid
competitive swimmer that is not only a member of the U.S. National
Masters Team but a member of the local Palm Beach Masters Team as
well. Coach Janet has been swimming since she was a child and
has a great love of the sport. Janet has many skills,
certifications and knowledge that our swimmers will benefit from.
She is not only a practicing Registered Nurse, but a certified
Reiki instructor and life Coach. Having studied many
different spiritual traditions and schools of thought, Janet is
passionate about sharing, teaching and facilitating meditative
practices to help infuse lives with greater meaning and health on
all levels of our being. Coach Janet is mentally determined
and accustomed to pressure and stress in competition, with a
disciplined and focused nature.
Age Group Coach
Gelatt has been swimming since he was a young child, and continued
to swim up until he graduated from high school. David has
competed at the Regional level in High school as well as high level
meets for ECAC and is no stranger to the pressures of competition.
David joined ECAC as a swimmer and was actually one of our very
first swimmers. Coach David swam for 4 years at the
Univercity of Florida collegiate club team, Florida Club Swim and
Dive, while swimming for ECAC during each summer. David
became a coach for the Makos Aquatic Club in Gainesville, while
continuing to swim for ECAC after graduating from UF in 2016.
Coach David has been a huge part of our success and has been
filling in as an unofficial coach for some time, being mentored by
Head Coach John
