John M. Spire


Director of Competitive Aquatics & Head Coach

John M. Spire serves as Director of Competitive Aquatics for the YMCA of South Florida and is the Head Coach of YSF Barracudas Swim Club.

Mr. Spire has been involved in aquatics either as a swimmer, parent and coach for over 40 years.

As a competitive swimmer, he is one of the few individuals who was named an All American Swimmer in high school, college (NCAA Division I) and masters swimming. Mr. Spire has held swimming records from the Florida Gold Coast (Age Group) to FINA World (Masters).

In addition to serving as Head Coach for the YMCA Barracudas (YSF), Mr. Spire is Head Coach for Cypress Bay High School, in Weston, Florida. Since joining the Cypress Bay coaching staff the swim team has participated in every State Championship series meets and were 2005 Boys State Champs and runner-up in 2007.

  • High School Dual Meet Record -Boys: 140 Wins and 14 Losses. Girls: 135 Win and 19 Losses

Marc Gallet


Marc Gallet serves as Lead Swim Coach for the YSF Barracudas Swim Team at the Hallandale Beach YMCA Family Center.

Mr. Gallet has been invovled in swimming almost his entire life. He started swimming as an age group swimmer and received a swim scholarshio with Broward Community College.

Mr. Gallet has been involved with the YMCA for over 25 years and served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Hollywood YMCA for 15 years. In 2009, he was asked to take over the swim coaching duties at the Greater Hollywood YMCA Family Center. Between 2009 and 2014, he coached the swim team in the South Florida Recreational League. Many of his swimmers broke records in the league, some still stand today. In 2014, the South Florida Recreational League named him - Coach of the Year.

In 2015, a new era was started with the Greater Hollywood YMCA with the swim program joining the YSF Barracudas, YMCA of the USA Swimming and Diving and USA Swimming.

In 2019, Mr. Gallett moved to the Hallandale Beach YMCA to start the YSF Barracudas program at the newly opened YMCA of South Florida branch.

Mr. Gallet graduated from the University of Florida in 1982 with a Business Administration degree. He is a certified swim coach with USA Swimming, YMCA of the USA and a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA).

Bob Karl


Robert "Bob" Karl serves as a age group coach for the YSF Barracudas at the Weston YMCA Family Center and Lead Masters Coach at the Greater Hollywood YMCA and Hallandale Beach YMCA Family Centers.

Bob has been a swimming coach for over 48 years, within those years he has produced 16 State of Florida High School Champions. His first was Luis Janos who set the American High School record in the 50 yard freestyle in 1966. He developed 2 World Record Holders and many world ranked swimmers, along with scores of nationally ranked age group swimmers.

Mr. Karl has worked with some of the finest coaches in USA Swimming including former University of Miami Hall of Fame Coach Bill Diaz and USA Olympic Swim Coaches Jack Nelson and Eddie Reese.

Bob is a certified USA Swim Coach and has a Bachelor degree from Ft, Lauderdale College.

Glauco Frizzera


Glauco (Coach G) Frizzera serves as Lead Swim Coach for the YSF Barracudas at the Greater Hollywood YMCA Family Cneter and Lead Masters Coach at the Weston YMCA Family Center.

Coach G has a long background in aquatics and for the past ten years has been involved in coaching on many levels. He has extensive knowledge in the science of swimming and worked his way up from coaching with the South Florida Recreational League to USA Swimming and now with the YMCA of the USA.

Mr. Frizzera has numerious degrees including an MBA in Business Administration and MA in Photography from Barry University. His undergraudate degree was awarded from the Universidade Federal Espirito Santo, Brazil.

Coach G is a ceritifed USA Swimming and YMCA swim coach. He is also a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA).

Lee Brennan


Lee Brennan serves as the Pre Swim and Age Group Swim Coach for the YSF Barracudas at the Weston YMCA Family Center.

Lee has been involved in swimming for over 20 years as a parent and swim coach. For the past 8 years she has been an active swim coach in this area developing swimmers to reach their full potential.

Ms. Brennan is a certified USA and YMCA swim coach. In addition she is a certified yoga instructor with the Yoga Allance. She is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree.
