Head Coach - Teresa Coan
Coach Teresa, USA Swimming Certified Coach, has been involved in competitive swimming for more than a decade and brings to the Waves a wealth of knowledge and coaching experience amassed at the high school, age group, and international levels. Before joining the Waves in 2011, Coan was the head swim coach at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, where her swimmers won individual NCISAA 3A State and CAA conference championships, in addition to setting numerous school and conference records. Coach Teresa has coached for several age group swim teams, and has led swimmers to compete at the State, Sectionals, Futures Championship Meet, NCSA Junior Nationals, Speedo Junior Nationals, US Open Swimming Championship, US Paralympic World Trials, US Paralympic National Meet levels. Additionally, Coan is highly involved in disabled swimming. Coach Teresa focuses on stroke technique, endurance training and teaching the importance of individual goal setting to motivate CW-GA swimmers.
Assistant Coach - Katerina Flanders
A USA Swimming-certified coach, Katerina has over 15 years of exemplary teaching experience along with a variety of coaching experience. Over the years, she has had the privilege of working with a wide range of students from infants to adults with a variety of backgrounds including Special Education students, English as a Second Language students, and Gifted students. With her 3 degrees focusing on Leadership, Instruction and Assessment, and Math and Science, she uses a variety of strategies to teach swimmers ways to meet and surpass their goals. Throughout her career, she has used her swimming experience from her young adult years to continue to give back to the community and spread the love of swimming. Coach Katerina understands the development of the whole child and strives to ensure swimming remains fun even when the “work” gets hard!
