Jamie Langner

Head Age Group Coach


Jamie became the Head Age Group Coach in the spring of 2008, following 4 years as an assistant coach with the club.  Prior to moving to the area, Jamie coached the Spencer Sea Turtles Summer Swim Team for seven years, a team that she founded in 1997.  In addition to her duties with the Sea Turtles Jamie was the head coach for the Spencer YMCA from 1992-1998 and was named the Iowa YMCA coach of the year in 1996.  Jamie also started both the men's and women's teams at Spencer High School in 1995 where she coached the boys for five seasons and the girls for ten seasons, earning District coach of the year in 1998.  Jamie brings both a wealth of experience coaching swimmers, adminstrating a wide range of teams, and brings an energy to the deck that shows her passion for the sport of swimming.

Ethan Jacobsen

Lead Developmental Coach (PS and SR1)


Ethan began swimming competitively at the age of 4.  He swam for Normal Community High School from 2007-2010. 

Ethan went to the University of Northern Iowa and started coaching for BLAST in the fall of 2010.   He was an assistant for the age groups for 4 years.  He swam for BLAST while at UNI from 2011 to 2013.  In the fall of 2013 he began to work as an assistant for the Senior groups at BLAST.  Ethan was the Lead Coach for Age Group 2 in the 2014-2015 winter and summer seasons.  Starting in the fall of 2015 Ethan became the Lead Development Coach for BLAST, heading Pre-Senior and Senior 1, where he still is currently.

Ethan has been on the Team Iowa Zones coaching staff twice in his career, once in 2014 and again in 2016 as a part of the Central MegaZone Team Iowa staff.

Mike joined the BLAST coaching staff in the Fall of 2010 and works primarily with the Presenior, Senior 1, and Senior 2 groups.  Prior to joing BLAST Mike coached and swam for the Lacrosse YMCA in Wisconsin.  He also swam collegiatley at the the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa majoring in education in 2012. From 2012-2013 Mike led the BLAST PS and SR1 groups.  During that time he coached dozens of state qualifiers, 8 zones quailifiers, and 1 Central Zone champion.  From 2013-2015 Mike was the head coach for the Waterloo West Men's and Women's swim teams.  During that time Mike coached several high school state qualifiers.  In 2016 MIke took over the Cedar Falls High School women's team.

Sararose E Holding

Assistant Coach (NV1- AG3)


Sararose is originally from Kihei, Maui, Hawaii.  Growing up on Maui, Sararose swam from 2001-2011 with the South Maui Sharks Swim Team and the Seabury Hall Swim Club.  Sararose came to Cedar Falls to attend the University of Northern Iowa.  She graduated in May of 2017 with a degree in Movement and Exercise Science and Coaching. Sararose is the Assistant Coach to groups Novice 1 through Age Group 3.

Joel Robert Wauters

Assistant Coach (N1-AG3)


Joel joined the BLAST coaching staff in the fall of 2014 after a swimming career of twelve seasons. Joel swam from 2002-2014 with the Dysart Swim Team of the Big Six Swim Club, the Vinton Aquatics Club, and four years for the Waterloo West high school team. After graduating from Union High School in May of 2014, Joel began his coaching career with Dysart and has helped coach them to four consecutive Big Six titles as an assistant coach. In addition to coaching his hometown team, Joel served as the head coach of the Big Six regional and state team in the summer of 2017. Joel currently is attending the University of Northern Iowa studying Digital Journalism with plans to enter the sports journalism field. Joel is excited to bring his enthusiasm and energy to the BLAST program and help promote the sport he loves.

Kyle James Graves

Assistant Coach (PS- SR3)


Kyle Graves is an Assistant Coach for PSR and SR1.  He is a former BLAST and West High swimmer.  Kyle now attends UNI for High School Social Studies Education.

Erik M Pinter

Assistant Coach (PS- SR3)


Erik is from Bloominton, Illinois.  He swam most of his life leading to swimming at Carthage College where he was All Conference his Freshmen year in the 200 Freestyle.  He has pursued coaching since graduating from Carthage witha  degree in Exercise and Sports Science in the Spring of 2017.  Erik assists with groups Pre-Senior through Senior 3.

Krista Determan

Assistant Coach (N1-AG3)


Krista Determan joined BLAST in 2016. She is currently a Sophomore at the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. She began swimming at four years old and continued competitively through her Senior year of high school in Spencer, IA. Krista's favorite event in high school was the 200 Individual Medley.
