Coach Wilson is a Lifetime Plus Member and Level II Coach Certified with ASCA (American Swim Coach Association), and USA Swimming Certified Coach.  He joined Orcas in 2015 and in addition to being our Head Coach, he is the Head Coach for the Boys' Rock Island High School Rocks, Assistant Coach for the Girls' Rock Island High School Lady Rocks, and Co-Head Coach for the Junior Rocks!

Coach Wilson joined the Orcas after teaching and coaching professional/amateur ballroom dancing from 2009-2014.  He has taught all age groups starting from 5 years old all the way to 87 years old.  Prior to teaching professionally, Coach Wilson was an Advisor for both the MU Latin Club and Mizzou Ballroom Dance Club from 2007-2009.  He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2007 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration – Management.

Originally, from St. Peters, Missouri, Coach Wilson has been swimming since he was 4 years old.  He did not officially begin competition swimming until 2002 when he joined the Fort Zumwalt South High Bulldog Swim Team.  He was a member of the team in 2002 and 2003.  Both years he competed, he helped the Bulldogs maintain an undefeated record, which the Bulldogs held for 8 years.  He helped them continue their dominance of winning the Gateway Athletic Conference every year for 8 years.  He also qualified for state in Missouri, both 2002 and 2003, for 50 Freestyle, 200 Relay Teams, and 400 Relay Teams.  After both seasons, Coach Wilson was unanimously voted by his peers and coaches as the Most Improved Swimmer.

Coach Wilson is very excited to continue with our club to develop swimming in the Quad Cities and develop future leaders of our community!

Tyler Palmer

Assistant Coach

Email

Tyler Palmer has been swimming under ORCA for 7 years and coaching for the better part of 4 years, both in club and at the community fitness center. He currently attends Blackhawk Community College and plans to transfer to an undergraduate university to finish his degree in Transportation Design in 2018. Coach Palmer excelled in Breastroke and Freestyle as a professional swimmer but understands the core concepts of all 4 strokes fundamentally and competitively. He looks to this season to excel further in his ability to coach swimmers at a championship level and make fast, established swimmers, beat their previous times and employ strategy in their races.

Alex Ingulsrud

Assistant Coach

Email

Coach Alex joins us as a new member of our staff this year. He has been swimming competitively since high school and swam collegiately at a small D III program in MN for 4 years. Coach Alex only began swimming competitively in high school but quickly fell in love with the sport. After 4 years of high school swimming in North Dakota, Alex placed at State Finals in the 100 backstroke, 50 and 100 freestyle his final two years. Graduating high school in 2012, Alex enrolled at St. John’s University where he contributed to several competitive years on the swim team as a backstroke specialist. He helped the team place second at MIAC conference championships in 2016. At St. John’s Alex studied Philosophy and earned All-MIAC academic honors as an accomplished student athlete.

Alex joins us after having returned to the country from a year of volunteering in Israel, where he helped run a guesthouse at a German Monastery. In Israel, Alex hosted various non-profit institutions, especially institutions for the disabled from both Israel and Palestine. Alex is excited to join the Orca swim club staff and to help young swimmers achieve their goals.

Shannon Thomas

Assistant Coach

Email

Coach Thomas joins the Orcas as a first year assistant swim coach after 4 years of teaching swim lessons back in her hometown of Wheaton Illinois. She has taught swimmers from all ages ranging from 6 months old to 60, starting many swimmers from basic floating skills and working them up to competitive level swimming. She has received many parent testimonials about her rapport with students and ability to bring the best out of even the most timid swimmer, most notably bringing one swimmer from “reluctantly blowing bubbles with just her nose and lips in the water to an excited swimmer who ordered her mom to stay out of her way so she could jump in unassisted and swim back to the wall by herself”.

She is currently working on her bachelors degree at Augustana college in Psychology with the hopes of going on to grad school for Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Everlynn Roberts

Assistant Coach

Email

Coach Roberts is a freshman at Augustana College, with an interest in studying Pre-Medicine. She has been swimming competitively since she was six years old for PAWW, OCS, and on her high school swim team where she was a co-captain her senior year. In her free time, Coach Roberts plays the Tuba and enjoys baking. Her favorite strokes are freestyle and butterfly. Coach Roberts swam the 500 freestyle at almost every meet in high school, but the 100 fly is her favorite event. In her senior year of high school, she received the "Most Improved" Award due to dropping almost 2 minutes in her 500 free over the course of the season.

Coach Roberts loves the technique of strokes and is passionate about teaching others and she is very excited to join the Orca Team as an assistant coach and pass on her own swimming knowledge!
