Coaching Staff

Steve Tatsuo Iida

Head Coach/Senior Division Lead Coach

Email

Steve is honored and excited to be coaching Glenbrook Swim Club (GSC), which brings together two strong and passionate communities in one united team. The road that led Steve to this dream role began in 2003 when Steve assumed responsibility for the Glenview Titan Aquatic Club. When Steve arrived, GTAC was in its infancy with 20 swimmers, but grew to serve over 200 swimmers in the 15 years of his leadership.  At GTAC, Steve and his coaching staff regularly produce champions, finalists and qualifiers at Age Group Regionals and Age Group State meets, Illinois Senior Championships, Speedo Sectionals, Junior and Senior Nationals and Olympic Trials. Along the way, Steve was selected on multiple occasions as a coach for the USA National and Junior National teams as a result of placing athletes on both teams. He has been by recognized by USA Swimming and the National Swimming Coaches Association for coaching excellence and is a two-time Illinois Swimming Senior Coach of the Year recipient.

Steve is a lifelong resident of Glenview.   During his school years, he participated competitively in many sports (swimming, basketball, baseball and water polo, to name a few). He is a big believer in participating in as many sports as possible at a young age. Steve finished his competitive swimming career (200 fly and IMs) with two years on the varsity team at Illinois Institute of Technology.  He went on to earn a B.A. in Economics at Northern Illinois University and played water polo while he was there. Steve has a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science and Cardiovascular Research from Northeastern Illinois University. He worked as a corporate commercial banker for 6 years and a healthcare consultant for 10 years.

Steve and his wife, Kris, have three amazing children, Katie, Sam and Max.  They also have a family dog, Bear, who is the family’s best swimmer!  In his time away from coaching, Steve has coached girl’s fastpitch softball travel teams and has assisted with coaching other sports that his kids have been involved in. But his main passion is swimming and passing along the valuable life lessons that swimming teaches our athletes.

Mike Patrick

13-14 Division Lead Coach

Email

Mike has been a life-long swimmer and lover of all things to do with aquatics. He grew up in a military family, born at Keesler AFB, in Biloxi, MS. Mike’s family moved on average every two years and he was always active in swimming, either at YMCA’s or base pools in California, Utah, Panama, etc, etc.

Mike was a 4 year varsity swimmer, distance runner, and survived one season of football at Mt. Vernon HS in VA. He graduated with a B.S. in Botany/Environmental Management from Miami University (the original one in Ohio,) and still found ways to swim competitively via fraternity “splash” competitions and holding down the less than coveted pond swim leg of his fraternity’s multi-sport relay event.

After graduation, Mike served four years as an officer in the Air Force as a navigator on a KC 135 (flying gas station,) married his wife Mary (also a Miami grad,) and moved to downtown Chicago. In Chicago, for ten years, he was a restaurant manager and regional operations director for California Pizza Kitchens during their initial explosive national growth, and then a successful systems analyst and software developer. Mike reentered the competitive swim world as a coach with the Leaning Tower YMCA Sharks swim team while staying home tending to their two daughters. Mike coached with LTY for 9 years and was the head coach in his final year.

An early marathoner and triathlete, Mike has transformed to an avid bicyclist, logging thousands of miles a year crisscrossing the Chicagoland area. He also loves traveling to new and exciting places (preferably with a beach!) with his wife and girls and growing closer as a family as the girls move into adulthood.

Mike’s coaching philosophy focuses on developing excellent fundamentals and technique, pushing beyond one’s limits, growing as an athlete and a person, and having fun.

11-12 Division Lead Coach

Coach Sam started swimming competitively at the age of seven. Growing up she swam for the Palatine Tiger Sharks swim team. She also swam all four years for the varsity level at Fremd High School in Palatine and was named Captain her senior year. She attended Winona State University and majored in Family and Consumer Science. While swimming is still her main passion she doesn’t find herself jumping in the pool as often as she should. She has no children but she does have two cats, Stanley and Reginald, and a bunny named Hubert Cumberdale. Any free time Coach Sam has is usually spent with her pets, her friends and of course, Netflix.

Coach Sam has been a swim instructor since the age of 14 as a swim lesson instructor at the Palatine Park District. Her first coaching job was in 2006 with the Palatine Tiger Sharks as the lead coach for their Pre-Comp group. In 2009, Coach Sam joined the Glenbrook Aquatics coaching staff. She was appointed as an assistant for the Silver Group (elite age group) and could also be seen helping out with all levels of the Gold Groups (senior groups.)

In the Spring of 2017, Coach Sam was named Head Age Group Swim Coach for Glenbrook Aquatics. With her new title Coach Sam helped her swimmers achieve countless best times, numerous Regional and State Qualifiers as well as two State Champions. While she coached for Glenbrook Aquatics she also took on an administrative role within the club putting herself in charge of all the GA swimmer’s achievement points, meet entries, organization of home meets and much more.

With the wonderful joining of GSC, Coach Sam has been named GSC’s 11-12 Division Lead Coach. She is BEYOND excited for what the future holds for this new team and can’t wait to see all her new swimmers thrive for years to come.

Jody Nolan

10&U Division Lead Coach

Email

Jody was born with swimming in her blood.   In 1962 her father, Bill Stetson, became the first coach and director for all aquatic programs at Glenbrook South High School -the same year Jody was born. Coincidence? We think not. In 1964 Coach Stetson started up the first Glenview Park District Swim Team. Jody credits her Dad for her life long connection with swimming.  Along with her three older brothers, Jody swam under their father through both age group and high school careers. Jody's high school successes include making top six in state for her junior and senior year, along with receiving All-American honors her senior year.  These achievements lead her to swim at the University of Georgia for coach Jack Baurele. She was a three time collegiate All-American and captain her senior year. GO DAWGS

After graduating from UGA with a degree in Early Childhood Education, Jody returned to Glenview. She then got lucky <@ and married a life long resident and dentist, Dr. Michael Nolan.  Before starting their family, Jody coached at the Glenview Park District, taught pre-school, and was beach manager for several years at Lake Bluff Park District.  Having the pure pleasure of becoming a domestic engineer of four she stepped away from teaching and coaching: however, continued directing (and even to this day) the successful Glenbrook South Student Guard/Learn-to-Swim Program that her father started in 1962.  After about a 20 year maternity leave, Jody came back to coach the Glenview Titan Aquatic Club in 2015 and lead the 10&U age group program.

Jody is also inspired by Art Van Aman, a leader and coach for the Northbrook swimming community and high school. Both Coach Van Aman and Coach Stetson worked together to pave the way and lead both communities to outstanding aquatic programs. Glenbrook Swim Club would not be what it is if not for the teamwork of these two inspirational leaders and the assistant coaches on the deck with them.

Jody enjoys a multitude of activities including: wandering the grocery stores, "pounding the pavement" around Glenview, OTF, tennis, baking, sewing T-Shirt quilts, soaking up some rays, hiking, and not swimming.  Many times with a dishrag around her shoulder you can see her pacing as she supports her many favorite sports teams… Cubs, Blackhawks, Bama, Seminoles, and most importantly, her DAWGS.  Though what she treasures most is time exploring with her husband and trying to remember which kid lives in which state.

Sachiko Majoros grew up Northbrook and swam in the 6-line "old" pool, when it was the only one, while attending Glenbrook North High School.  She and her husband live in Northbrook and are happy to have their children grow up in this strong community.  Sachiko is a teacher at Glenbrook North High School and she coached the high school swim team prior to starting a family.  She is excited to be on deck coaching and watching the growth of our GSC swimmers.

Morgan Nolan

Assistant Coach

Morgan is a native of Glenview. She grew up swimming for both Glenview and Northbrook programs. Starting with Titan Swim Association then Northbrook Spartan Swim Club and then Glenview Titan Aquatic Club. She swam all four years in high school  and took spring season off to focus on lacrosse. Starting in middle school then all through high school she helped with the Glenbrook South Learn-to-Swim program where she continues to work.

Morgan spent 4+ years down south attending the University of Alabama. While there she ran the Bama Swim School program and coached a “pre-team” development group. She graduated and was able to work for her first full seasons with GTAC. Morgan will be working closely with the Wonder, Mighty, and Rise swim groups.

When not on the pool deck Morgan will most likely be tanning, running, doing a puzzle, and babysitting. She looks forward to coaching everyone on Glenbrook Swim Club!

Amy Oliphant

Assistant Coach

Coach Amy grew up in Winnetka and graduated from New Trier High School. She began swimming competitively at the age of 6 but at the age of 12 she decided to put her swimming career on hold to pursue her dream of playing collegiate tennis.  After playing Varsity tennis at New Trier for four years she continued her playing career at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Despite her success in tennis, her heart always missed the pool so when her oldest daughter began swimming the door back to the pool opened.

Amy has been coaching ever since and has worked with all age groups and levels from beginners to jr national qualifiers. She is passionate about the sport and her goal as a coach is to give each of her swimmers the tools to be successful both in and out of the pool. She encourages all of her swimmers to DREAM BIG!
