Nicole joined out team in fall of 2015. She serves as the McHenry Parks & Recreation Athletics & Aquatics Supervisor. She joins our team bringing 10+ years of experience in the recreation field. She was born and raised in Johnsburg where her passion for helping kids started at a young age. From her earliest years, she would assist in her mom's classroom helping kindergarten students at Edgerbrook Elementary School. Her passion for travel took her to Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where she majored in international business and marketing. During her freshman summer, she took a job as a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Duncan. It was her first foray into the recreation field and reignited her lifelong passion for working with children. Before coming back to her hometown, Nicole spent her life dedicated to the YMCA mission for the last 10 years. She worked as the asst. program director at Camp Duncan, ran a 300 child day camp at the YMCA of Great Tulsa before moving to sports & aquatics at their largest membership branch, and most recently oversaw the daily operations of a facility at the YMCA of Great New Orleans. She brings a joy for serving the community, the team, and helping us develop new programs.
Year Round Head Coach
Coach Sharon, a product of Wyoming, has been with the McHenry Marlins Aquatic Club since the beginning in 2004. She has helped coach not only numerous swimmers but her own 3 children. Her son, Jonathan, went on to swim at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay where he was the Horizon League 100M Breaststroke Championship. She had worked hard to become not only an USA swim certified coach but an IHSA official for over the last 12 years. Just like out swimmers, she is always pushing everyone to do their best including her. She devotes time to making sure everyone feel includes, and her coaching motto is "like a family". With her experience, she looks at taking out team into a bright future by developing and pushing our swimmers to higher levels of competition.
Coach John had a dream of seeing a competitive swimming club team in McHenry, Illinois for his young children to join. 13 years ago that dream became a reality. A founder of the McHenry Marlins Aquatic Club, Coach John has been with the team ever since! During his teen years, John was all around athlete. He competed in football, basketball, and track & field at John Hershey High School in Prospect Heights. John discovered his true passion in the pool where he became a state swimming champion. In college, John met his wife and co-coach Sharon. They have navigated the waters of raising 3 wonderful children along with coaching two competitive teams. Coach John has been at the helm of the Round Lake Ducks summer swim team for the last 16 years. He has helped numerous swimmers break state & team records along with helping them achieve the goal of swimming/competing at a college level. Coach John's philosophy is "anything worth doing is worth overdoing".
Phillip J Lesniak
Coach Phillip meets the joy and team dynamics that come in his first 5 years of coaching head on. He is going into his third year as a coach with the McHenry Marlins team. Phillip is a graduate of McHenry High School East Campus. He spent his time growing up in the pool on the McHenry Marlins swim team, and he later became the captain of the high school water polo team. He continues to serve the City of McHenry as a fireman with the McHenry Township Firehouse. When he isn't putting out fires, Phillip is spending his time attending classes and training to get his EMT certification. At the pool, Phillip works with the swimmers on improving techniques and helping each swimmer be the best they can be. He promotes swimmers to be part of a team and cheer on their fellow athlete.
