
Mark Townsend

Mark began swimming competitively at the age of 8. He competed for the Cress Creek Country Club in the Naperville Park District, the Naperville YMCA, Naperville North High School, The University of Iowa, and North Central College. He was a four-time high school All American and thirteen-time NCAA D3 All American. Mark captained both the Naperville North and North Central College Swim Teams. He has earned Bachelor Degrees in Management from North Central College (’91), and in Elementary Education from Benedictine University (’97). Mark has been coaching swimming since 1985. He was a three year assistant coach for the Cress Creek Country Club and a two year assistant coach for the Downers Grove Area Swim Team. Mark was the head coach of the Huntington Estates Swim Team for 9 summers. Mark is the original Head Coach and one of the founding members of the Maverick Swim Club (est. 1994). Mark resides in Aurora with his wife, Katie, and son, Logan.

Megan Mau

Megan swam competitively from the age of 5 to 17,
mainly for the Cress Creek Rebels in the summer and Maverick Swim
Club in the winter.
She began her coaching career at Cress Creek in
2000 and coached there for fifteen summers. Megan coached for
the Champaign YMCA Aquachiefs/Heat during the 2006-2007 and
2007-2008 SC seasons while attending the University of Illinois and
earning a Bachelor's degree in Education. She has been
coaching for Maverick since 2008. Megan was honored to join
the Team Illinois coaching staff for the Central Zone meets during
the 2016 and 2017 summers, helping to lead Team Illinois to
victories both years!
Away from the pool, Megan is a fifth grade
teacher in Glen Ellyn at Park View Elementary School with a
Master's degree in Educational Technology.

Jim Lullo

Jim began swimming competitively at the age of 4. He swam in the Naperville Park District, for the Maverick Swim Club, and for Naperville Central. His main events were distance freestyle. Jim competed in the state finals for NCHS and was team captain of the 2002 state championship team. He swam for 4 years at Ball State University and majored in Elementary Education. Jim has been coaching with Maverick Swim Club since 2006. Outside of Mavericks, Jim coached Naperville Park District Swimming for Hobson West for 8 years and has been Head Coach for Steeple Run Swim Team since 2012. Jim teaches 2nd Grade at Steeple Run Elementary School in District 203.

Krista Gensler

Krista started swimming at age 6 for a YMCA team in Brainerd, Minnesota. She continued to swim through high school and into college at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. While at Stevens Point, Krista earned a degree in English Education. Krista has coached for high school teams in Minnesota and Wisconsin and most recently worked for the Wausau TIDE Swim Club as a coach, swim lesson coordinator, and parent liaison for the last 6 years. Krista joined the Maverick staff in the fall of 2015 and has worked as a C2 and Genesis assistant coach. Krista and Ben have two children: Elyse and Colin.

Missy Hines

Coach Missy started swimming at the age of 5. She swam in the Naperville Park Distict, the Naperville YMCA, B.R.Ryall YMCA, and Naperville Central High School. Missy received her bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University and taught for 5 years. She began coaching with the City of Plano Swimmers in Plano Texas in 1998 until moving back to Illinois in 1999 where she started coaching with Maverick Swim Club. Missy has been with Mavericks for 12 years, and this year will be her sixth year as lead coach for the Core 1 group. She also founded the Mighty Mavs group four years ago. Missy’s husband Jay is also a Maverick coach.

Kimberly Swanson

Kim began swimming at the age of 8. She swam for a YMCA in
the northwest suburbs, Conant High School and Augustana
College where she received her bachelors degree. She competed
regularly in many championship level swim meets, including YMCA
Nationals, High School State finals and was ranked in the top 10
nationally for breaststroke in NCAA DIII. She was co-captain
of her High School team for two consecutive years, where she first
got the itch to coach after being asked to help new
swimmers on the boys team with their technique. She began head
coaching summer teams in 1994 (currently Woodridge Sea
Lions) and has been coaching with the Maverick Swim Club since
2014. She has a passion for building and improving on swimmers
stroke techniques to aid them in dropping time and enjoys
paying back her love for the sport to new generations of
swimmers. She also has three children who all currently love the
sport of swimming as well.

Nora Schroedter

Coach Nora started swimming at the age of 7. She swam in the Naperville Park District, the Naperville YMCA, , Naperville North High School and North Central College. During high school and college, Nora coached at Naper Carriage Hill and Centennial Beach.. After college she coached for the Lyons Swim Club, the Downers Grove Area Swim Team and the College of DuPage before starting the Maverick Swim Club along with Mark Townsend and Sue Hubbard. She resides in Naperville with her husband Dave and children Riley and Jackson.

Keith Herrmann

Keith started swimming at the age of 6 for the Lincoln Trail Sharks, out of Park Forest, Illinois. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1995 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Parks and Recreation, and became the head coach of the Princeton Met Jets in Princeton, Illinois for 3 years. Keith returned to school in 2004 to earn a Master’s of Education from Aurora University, graduating in 2007. During the 2006 and 2007 seasons, he was an assistant for the boys’ varsity team at Naperville North HS. Keith was then hired by the Plainfield School District as a middle school physical education teacher and became an assistant coach for the Plainfield 203 Cooperative Boys Swim Team in 2007, where he still coaches. He has been with the Maverick Swim Club Since 2012. Away from the pool, Keith is currently a professor in the S.H.A.P.E. (School of Health and Physical Education) Department at Aurora University where he teaches the Physical Education and Coaching major students. He resides in Aurora with his wife Beth and their two children, Sam and Anna.

Amy Ruble
Mighty Mavs Lead Coach

Amy began swimming competitively at the age of 5 at the Elmhurst YMCA and then moving to the Hinsdale Swim Club and Hinsdale Central High School swim team. In 2000, Amy joined the Children's Aquatics staff at Edwards Health and Fitness Center teaching group and private swim lessons and also assisting with the swim program development. In addition to teaching swimming, Amy also still enjoys swimming competitively with the Naperville Waves Masters swim team and has been an active member since 1999. Amy has had many roles with the Maverick Swim Club from parent, board member and most recently coach. Amy has been the lead Mighty Mav coach since 2010. Away from the pool Amy enjoys spending time with her husband Tony, and their son and daughter.
