Coach Nick Parry started with the West Chicago Sharks during the summer of 2008. Before becoming a member of the West Chicago Sharks coaching staff, he served as the Head Swim Coach at the Bartlett Electrix Swim Team where he developed multiple ISI State Champions as well as National Top 16 swimmers. Nick also served as Assistant Coach at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin for three years where he recruited and developed NCAA Division 3 national qualifiers and team record holders. On top of his coaching duties for the West Chicago Sharks, Nick is also the Head Coach of the Girls West Chicago/Batavia Co-op Swim Team and is a member of the IHSA Swimming Advisory Board.
Co-Head Coach (Age Group Program)
Coach Dan has been coaching with WCS since 1993. Since the fall of 2012 Coach Dan has been training our 11 & older swimmers (Junior Group) as they work toward earning time improvements in pursuit of Regional meet cuts and making the test set requirement for the next practice level. Junior practices focus on swim and strength conditioning as well as refinement of swimmer strokes, turns, and starts. In addition to coaching Juniors he splits administrative responsibilities with Nick Parry.
Coach Kelly Loftus swam for WCS for 7 years before heading to college. Kelly attended and swam at IUPUI her freshman year of college, and transferred to Carthage College for her sophomore year, where she continued her swimming career. At Carthage, Kelly qualified for the NCAA National Meet. Kelly is a part of the team's 200 Medley Relay record, and she also holds the school records in both the 100 Butterfly and 200 Backstroke. Kelly was both a captain her senior year at West Chicago High School as well as a captain her senior year at Carthage College. She also assists with the West Chicago/Batavia Co-Op Women's team with Nick Parry.
Coach Kelly Mateas swam for WCS for 14 years. She swam four years for the West Chicago Wildcats, where she was team captain her senior year. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in Movement and Exercise Science and a minor in coaching. At UNI, she swam all four years and was team captain her senior year. In May 2013, she grduated from University of Illinois-Chicago with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Kelly has been coaching since 2008 and teaching swim lessons since 2006.
Coach Kara swam competitively for 13 years as part of both age group swimming and high school swimming. She started her coaching career as an 8 and under coach for the Itasca Dolphins, a summer park district team. Coach Kara joined the Sharks during the fall of 2009 as the lead Junior coach. In the fall of 2012, Coach Kara decided to work with the Silver and Gold groups. "Teaching swimmers the basics to become elite swimmers is one of the most rewarding jobs."
Mary Beth Zarndt
Coach Mary Beth first joined the Sharks in 1983 as a member of the team. After competing for the Sharks and the Wildcats for 4 years she moved on to compete for Augustana College. After college Coach Mary Beth became a permanent member of the Sharks Coaching Staff in 1991. During those 22 years she has focused on coaching our 10 and under swimmers. While leading swimmers to regional, state and national level completion Coach Mary Beth's ultimate goal is encouraging the love of swimming in all our swimmers.
Coach DJ is the retired head coach and has been with WCS since 1979. Under Coach DJ's direction WCS has produced 56 ISI state champions, 6 high school state champions, and over 50 high school All Americans, Coach DJ is active in ISI having served as Senior Chair, Coaches Representative, and is currently on the Central Zone Board of Review.
