Head Coach - Senior Team
Coach Johnson designs and oversees the training structure of the
club. He will be working with the coaching staff on a continuous
basis to ensure club and athlete goals are being supported to the
fullest degree. Coach Johnson will be primarily working with the
senior group but will be on deck from time to time to oversee age
group athlete progress as well.
Scott is a 1999 graduate of Plainfield High School where he was
a four year swimmer. In his time at PHS, he was a state finalist
his sophomore through senior years where he earned 3 podium
finishes as part of relays and held mutliple school
Scott swam club for Avon Community Swim Team from 1994-2001. As
a club swimmer, he earned state qualifying times in mulitple events
in various age groups. Coach Johnson swam collegiately for the
University of Louisville and IUPUI.
Scott is a veteran on the coaching scene. He currently coaches
at Plainfield High School, where he was assistant coach for 14
years and was named Head Coach in 2016. Scott coached club swimming
at Avon Community Swim Team from 2005-2010 where he worked with
swimmers ranging from age 8-19. He was Head Age Group coach in 2008
and 2009 where he coached multiple individual state champions and
led the club to three consecutive top 10 age group state meet
finishes. In his time as PCA senior coach, team performances at
senior state meets have improved each season.
Coach Johnson resides in Plainfield with his wife, Amanda, and
daughters, Lainey and Lillian.
Head Coach - Age Group Team
Coach Woodruff designs and oversees training structure for our
Age Group program. In her time as PCA age group coach, Liz has
led PCA to improving team scores at 3 consecutive Age Group State
Elizabeth is a Plainfield Swimming alumn and is excited to
give back to the community program. Competitive swimming has been a
part of her life since she began with the Indy Dolphins at the age
of 8. During her time at PHS, Liz won multiple individual and
relay events in county, conference, and invitational meets. Coach
Woodruff was a sectional finalist all four years and still ranks
near the top in PHS history in many events. Her primary events
were the 200 IM, 100 Butterfly, and 100 Backstroke. Liz was an
integral part of PCA's summer championship success in it's first
ever season of competition. Coach Woodruff also serves as assistant
coach for the Plainfield High School swimming and diving
Elizabeth is a Personal Trainer certified through the American
Council of Exercise. She has studied Nutrition and Exercise
Science at IUPUI and has a passion for developing athletes both in
the water and through dry-land training. Coach Woodruff is also a
certified Lifeguard Instructor through American Red
Elizabeth currently resides in Plainfield with her husband,
Stephen, also a Plainfield Swimming alumn, and their daughter,
Age Group Coach/Developmental Coach
Coach Stephen Woodruff serves as the Developmental Coordinator/Coach for PCA as well as coach of our Breakers and Swells groups.
Stephen is a 2008 Plainfield graduate where he was a 4-year varsity swimmer. During his time at PHS, Stephen was part of a Medley Relay that qualified for state finals, as well as, won County and Conference titles. Stephen specialized in butterfly and sprint freestyle. Before joining PCA, Stephen spent 7 years coaching the developmental teams and additional swim programs for the Plainfield Recreation & Aquatic Center, while he was working for the Town of Plainfield as a building manager and licensed lifeguard instructor.
Coach Woodruff is excited that Plainfield now has a club program. He is looking forward to developing these young swimmers’ love for the sport and team camaraderie that he enjoyed with Plainfield swimming for many years. Training for competitive swimming is a fantastic tool for youth’s to learn the important life skills of hard work, dedication and perseverance.
Stephen graduated from with his Bachelor’s degree in 2012 from Wabash College. He attained his Master of Public Administration in 2015 from IUPUI. Stephen is a currently a member of the Indiana Army National Guard as a Transportation Officer. He now works full-time at the Indiana National Guard Headquarters as a Budget Analyst for the Logistics section.
Stephen and his wife Elizabeth, currently reside in Plainfield with their daughter, Jayda.
Jennifer is a 1994 graduate of Greencastle High School. She swam for the middle school and high school teams and also was a summer swimmer each year up to the age of 15. Jennifer began as a swim instructor at age 13 and served in that capacity until she began teaching Red Cross lessons at the city pool in the summers. Coach Detlefsen obtained water safety instructor certification and taught lessons at the YMCA during college. Jennifer also served as a coach overseas for the international team which consisted of swimmers from the American Army and Navy bases in Japan (while also being an elementary school teacher) from 1998-2001. Jennifer helped develop a swim program at a community center in Illinois where she resided from 2005-09. Coach Detlefsen holds a degree in early childhood/primary education. Jennifer resides in Plainfield with her husband, Will, and three children,
Coach Anderson is excited to return to the pool deck after being home with her children for the last 8 years. Michelle has extensive coaching experience and has served in coaching roles at the high school level as well as with club age group swimmers. She was an assistant coach for Roncalli high girls and boys swim team for 6 years. For 3 years before that, she was an assistant coach for Terre Haute South high school. Michelle coached for the Terre Haute Torpedoes 8 & under swimmers for a few seasons and for the Country Club of Indianapolis summer swim team. After graduating from Tri-West high school, she coached for a couple summers for the Brownsburg Bulldogs Swim Club.
Michelle really enjoys the sport and is very excited that Plainfield now has a club team. She is dedicated to being a part of this program's success.
Coach Anderson currently teaches 7th grade math at Plainfield Community Middle School and also serves on the PCMS swim team coaching staff.
Michelle’s husband, Phil, is the theatre director at Roncalli high school and they have a second grader and a fifth grader who attend Van Buren elementary school in Plainfield.
Age Group Coach
Chris joined the PCA staff in April of 2018. Chris is a 2013
Plainfield High School graduate and was a 4 year varsity swimmer.
During his swim career, Chris was a top point scorer for the
Quakers his sophomore through senior year, competed at the
state championship meet, and was a member of a school record relay
