Ross began his coaching career while in college at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He was hired to work with the Bengal Tiger Aquatic Club's National training group, high school development program and learn-to-swim groups. Ross was later hired to lead a satellite team for the Franco's FINS Swim Team in Slidell, LA. After three successful seasons directing the satellite program, Ross was advanced to Head Coach of Franco's FINS. The FINS became a Top-5 team in the state and Ross had a swimmer qualify for Senior Nationals within his first 16 months in charge.

In 2003, Ross accepted an offer to move to Colorado to become the Head Age Group Coach for Highlands Ranch Aquatics. During his tenure, HRA became a Top-3 team in the state. After three successful seasons, he was hired to be the Head Coach of the Woodmoor Waves in Monument, Colorado. The Waves year-round programs doubled in size culminating with their first Sectional Championship Team.

Beginning April 2011, Ross created the PEAK Swim Team, a coach-owned program. In the four year existence of PEAK, the team grew from a very young collection of swimmers to a very successful group that included two individual State Champions and five Sectional Championship participants.

In 2007, Ross was recognized by ASCA as Colorado Swimming's "Age Group Coach of the Year".

Ross is married to Shannon Scott Hedrick. They have two kids, Kendal and Kayden.
