Anthony, Sr M Petruzzi

Anthony Petruzzi has been The Medina Makos Head Coach since 2008. He is in charge of the entire team’s direction, overall development, structure and continuing growth of our team. Part of his duties include development of our daily workouts, scheduling and setting up USA meets, USA entries, calendars, parent emails and communication with MCRC and Lake Erie swimming. He primarily works with our high school, senior and yellow group swimmers, but oversees all areas of swimmer development.

 

Anthony is a Level 3 ASCA coach. One of Coach Anthony’s strengths lies in developing solid technique and race strategy in our swimmers.  These skills have been illustrated through the growing number of Makos Swimmers achieving qualifying times to complete at USA national meets including Junior Nationals and Future Championships.  Qualification for and participation in regional meets including USA Zones, Quads, and Sectional meets has more than doubled in the last three years.  Additionally, Anthony has coached two swimmers to Top 15 status in USA Swimming (Ashley Mennenga and Joey Reilman) and has been recognized nationally in American Swimming magazine for his early influence on USA National team member Joey Reilman.

 

Anthony’s has been selected as the Head Coach of the Lake Erie Zone Teams (2011 & 2014). Coach Anthony and the Makos received the Lake Erie Swimming Board of Directors Award in 2010 and were recently awarded the 2015 Lake Erie Swimming Club Development Award acknowledging the rise of the Makos to a top 8 teams within Lake Erie Swimming.

 

Coach Anthony has also served as the Medina High School Head Swimming and Diving Coach since 2014. Anthony received 2014-15 Northeastern Ohio Conference River Division Boys Coach of the Year. In 2015-16 the Medina boys finished 13-0 and a relay qualified for state for the first time in 6 years, Anthony was named to both the Greater Cleveland Conference and the Gazette Boys Coach of the Year.  

 

Anthony has also an enjoyed a 25 year career as a Physician’s Assistant and currently works for Metro Health. He is married with two children who are also excellent swimmers in their own right. Samantha Petruzzi is a two time letter winner at Wittenberg University and is entering her junior year. Anthony Petruzzi Jr. is entering his junior year at Medina High School and holds four school or pool records and made it to the State meet 2016. 

 

 

Jackie Draiss

Jackie is entering her 10th year of coaching the Makos.  She has worked with every level from green group up to senior group where she currently focuses her time.   Jackie  swam competitively for 15 years and was on five zone teams and one junior national team.  In high school she was part of a relay that won the state championships.  Jackie swam 2 years in college at Miami before retiring.   Jackie was one of the Ohio coaches at the mid-state all –stars meet and will be one of the zone coaches at the upcoming age group zone championships in Minnesota this summer.

Jackie works full time as a Physician Assistant.  She practices internal and addiction medicine as well moonlights in emergency medicine.  She obtained a bachelor’s degree in science from Miami University as well as Associate and Master’s degrees in Physician Assistant studies.  She also leads two Girl Scout troops.  She has been married for 22 years and has two daughters both of whom swim. 

Hannah Teske

This is Hannah's second season coaching with the Makos. She moved to Medina from Grand Rapids, Michigan. During high school, Hannah swam all four years for the Medina High School Varsity Swim Team, and swam for the Makos during the high school off season. She is currently a sophomore at University of Akron, and is majoring in Elementary Education and minoring in Spanish. Hannah is looking forward to another great season!

Steve Rhein

Steve has been coaching with the Medina Makos since 2012. He currently assists with the Senior, High School, Yellow, Blue & White teams. He is also assists with the Highland High School Swim Team. 

Steve works full time as the Facility Coordinator in charge of Aquatics for the Mercy Health & Recreation Center at the Holstein Reservation of Lorain County Metro Parks. He has a bachelors degree in Sports Medicine and Health Education K-12 from the University of Akron and has certifications as a Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor - Instructor Trainer from the American Red Cross. He is married with 2 children.

Colleen Kato

Colleen Kato started swimming competitively when she was 5 years old in St. Louis, MO.  Although, her High School did not have a High School program, she continued swimming competitively in a USA league until she was 18.  After High School, Colleen started coaching the Summer league she competed in until she was 21.

 

When Colleen got married in January of 1993 and had her first child, Julia, she returned to coaching her summer team in 1994. She continued to coach in the summers until her family moved to O'Fallon, MO in 1997. Colleen then moved to Greenfield, Indiana in 1998 where she coached Greenfield Middle School for one season.  

 

She then moved to Brunswick, OH with her family, in 2002.  After earning her Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology she began coaching as a USA coach in Fall 2005 at the Brunswick Recreation Center.   This is where she met the Medina Makos.  Colleen would fill in as the Makos coach at meets. Colleen joined the Medina Makos swim staff in Fall 2006 and has been with the Makos as a coach and/or board member since.

Allison Maria Davila

This is Allison Bury’s first year coaching with the Makos. This is Allison’s 9th year coaching overall, she coached various summer leagues while in college, was an assistant coach at SwimStrong and Lakeshore Swim Club, assistant coach at Twinsburg High school while finishing her student teaching in 2011 and then was the head swim coach for the Lakewood High School from 2012-2017. She also is an assistant coach for the Medina High School team currently. She graduated from the University of Mount Union in 2012 where she swam competitively. Allison (Ali) was a breaststroker and 200/400 IMer. Throughout her swimming career some of her most notable achievements are: 4 time letter receiver, earning All Conference in numerous relays, 100 and 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, top 8 finishes in the OAC in 19/20 events and breaking the 400 medley relay, 100 and 200 breaststroke records. 

 

Ali also graduated from Mount Union with a degree in Education and minor in psychology. She also completed her Masters Degree in Literacy Coaching with a specialization in Administration at Baldwin Wallace University and is working toward a second Masters degree at Ashland University where she is studying Curriculum Development. Allison is currently teaching at Claggett Middle School In Medina City Schools but has previously taught in Garfield Heights for 5 years prior. Ali currently lives in Strongsville with her husband Benjamin Bury.
