Coaching Staff

David Allen Perchinske Jr.

Head Coach


Coach Perchinske is entering his third year as Head Coach and Director of the Solon Stars Swim Club.  In addition to these duties, he teaches in the Solon City Schools District and serves as the head coach of the high school program and pool director.  Previously, Coach Perchinske worked for six years with the Shaker Sharks and two years with the Dublin Sea Dragons, as well as several high school swim teams (South Columbus, Shaker Heights, and Cuyahoga Heights High Schools).  Coach Perchinske graduated from John Carroll University with a BA in History and a minor in Education.  He also holds an MEd in Social Studies and Global Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an EdS in Administration and a PhD in Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.  As a competitive swimmer, Coach Perchinske swam for the Solon Stars, Solon High School and John Carroll University swim teams.  In his spare time, he enjoys lifting, watching movies, eating out, traveling with his wife in their new RV, and attending music festivals.


Kevin Harrod

Associate Head Coach, Lead Age Group 2-3


Kevin Harrod joined the Solon Stars in August of 2007. In his time as Head Age Group Coach and Associate Head Coach he has helped develop multiple Zone, Sectional, and Junior National qualifiers. He was named LESI Age Group Coach of the Year for the 2014-2015 season. Additional he has served as a coach for 9 Lake Erie Zone Teams. He is a past member of the LESI Board of Directors and currently serves on several LESI Committees.

His past coaching experiences include serving as the Head Coach for the Lakewood Recreation Swim Team from 2001-2007, Assistant Coach for the Baldwin-Wallace College Men;s and Women's teams from 1997-2000 were he helped produce the first Men's NCAA Division 3 qualifier in school history. He served as a student-assistant coach for the Cleveland State University's Men's team for the 1996-1997 season.

Coach Kevin graduated from Cleveland State University in 1997 with a BA in Sociology. He swam for 4 years at Cleveland State. He swam for 2 years at Cleveland Heights. He currently resides in Cleveland Heights.

Christopher Marquiss

Lead AG 1, Assistant Dev 1, AG 2-3


Chris started his swimming career at age 6 on a recreational team in Jacksonville, Florida. At age 9 he moved to Brookfield, Wisconsin and joined his first competetive swim team. At this time his main events were sprint freestyle and backstroke,which were good enough to qualify him for the Wisconsin Zone Team. At 14 he moved to Ohio and swam with the STARS through high school. During this time, he transitioned into a mid-distance swimmer then back to sprint freestyle and butterfly. He qualified for the Junior National meet at 18 just before going to Case Western Reserve University where he would swim for two more years. He ended up joining the STARS as a coach in 2013 and has coached just about every group since.

Fredy Arnold

FREDY, yes, spelled with ONE  ‘D’, has been coaching since the age of 18. He has an Associate of Arts Degree from Cuyahoga Community College. While there he taught swim lessons and performed lifeguard duties, and learned much about life and swimming under the guidance of Dr. Patricia M. Gorman. She encouraged him to give up basketball and pursue his swimming talents. Fredy also has a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, and a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology - both from Cleveland State University. While at CSU he was an Assistant Coach for the Men's and Women's Swim Teams, and was a Graduate Assistant in the Exercise Physiology Department, under the guidance of Dr. Jim Klinzing. Fredy has coached summer club, USA  club, high school, college, and Master's swimmers. Fredy still enjoys training in and out of the water, and occasionally compete in Master's meets.
