Matt entered the world of competitive swimming 25 years ago when he boldly removed his swimmies and made it across the pool at Charleston Swim club. In the following quarter of a century, he has been fortunate enough to have seen tremendous success in the pool as a swimmer for an array of teams. Over the summers he competed for Charleston and Barclay Farms and swam for the Echelon Y, Burlington Y and Coliseum Hurricanes during the winter club seasons. In high school he helped lead Cherry Hill East to back to back undefeated seasons culminating in two straight state titles. He continued his career swimming for Union College where he was a three time All American, multi-event NY State Champion and graduated with the 6th fastest 100 breaststroke in team history, while also earning varsity letters in soccer and track. Matt transitioned gradually into coaching and his coaching career has spanned the past 15 years. In that time he has been the head coach for both Charleston Swim Club and the Varsity Boys' Swim Team at Cherokee High School. Over his coaching career Matt has been fortunate to have coached multiple Tri-County champions and record holders at Charleston and has led Cherokee to their first ever South Jersey Championship appearance this past year. Matt's coaching philosophy is to help his athletes reach their full potential by focusing on technique development and race strategy while striving to help swimmers have fun and develop the same love for this tremendous sport as he has. As a career multi sport athlete Matt believes strongly in balancing the varied interests most young athletes have in order to maintain their joy in competition throughout their careers. Matt lives with his two children, seven year old Isabella and six year old MJ, in Maple Shade.
