Coach Jermaine Winstead (Head Coach)
Coach Jermaine (Coach J) started swim lessons at the age of 16 months at the YMCA in Asheville, NC because his mother wanted him to learn how to swim since she couldn't. He took lessons until the age of 5 and began competitive swimming in a local swim team until the family relocated to Durham, NC when he was 8. After a 3 year break and he started competitive swimming again at a YMCA in Durham, NC from 11-15. A recreation center opened with a pool where Jermaine was a lifeguard. Jermaine swam, lifeguarded, and taught lessons for Durham Parks and Recreation the remainder of his high school years.
Jermaine entered college in the Fall of 1993 majoring in Chemistry at North Carolina A&T State University. While in college Jermaine marched in the Blue & Gold Marching Machine as a snare drummer. Swimming was still a passion of his so he continued to lifeguard and teach lessons at a local inner city facility and high school. NC A&T only had a girls swim team so he practiced with them to stay in shape and learn how to coach. In the summers of 95 & 96 Coach J coached an inner city swim team.
Jermaine started working as a lifeguard/ swim instructor at the Y of Randallstown in November 2012. In the spring of 2013 he ran the stroke and turn clinic. Then later in 2013, he joined YRAC sharks swim team as an assistant coach. At the turn of the season January 1, 2016 Jermaine became the head coach of the YRAC Sharks Swim Team. He welcomes all new and seasoned swimmers to enjoy in the sport that has been in his life since he was in diapers!!
Coach Dionne Alford (Assistant Coach)
Coach Dionne began her coaching career at the Y in 2012 as an assistant coach. She took a break from coaching at the end of the 2012-2013 swim season to focus on her teaching career. Coach Dionne was able to rekindle her position on the deck as assistant coach in 2015. As an opportunistic employee for the Y of Central since 2010, Coach Dionne also holds positions as a swim instructor, water fitness instructor, lifeguard, and a certified training specialist.
Coach Dionne began swimming at the age of 3 with the 4M swim club. She trained with the 4M swim club for eight consecutive years until she earned her first position as a swim instructor under the instruction of Marvin A. Thorpe Sr. Coach Dionne continued to instruct into her adult years. Coach Dionne attended Coppin State University in Baltimore City where she received a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. Coach Dionne incorporates all her professional training and enthusiasm on the deck to inspire all young swimmers. Go Sharks!!
Coach Rebecca "Becky" Fountaine (Assistant Coach)
Coach Becky began her swimming career in New Jersey for the Sussex-Wantage Porpoises, where she swam for twelve years. In high school, she swam varsity all four years as middle distance freestyler and relay anchor for the High Point Wildcats. Rebecca went on to swim in college for NCAA Division II Lock Haven University as a middle and long distance freestyler. She graduated from Lock Haven with a Bachelors degree in Science-Health and Physical Education with minors in coaching and sport and exercise psychology. She is continued her education with Lock Haven and completed her masters in Sport Science with a concentration in administration.
Coach Becky began her coaching career in 2004 with her summer team coaching all age groups. In 2011, she began coaching at Wallkill Valley Regional High school as well as the Gold level group at the Sussex County YMCA. In the summers, she coached at the Lock Haven Swim camp. She looks forward to having a great season with all of the athletes.
