Bio

Nimrod (Nim) is a 2-time Olympian swimmer for Israel, who raced in the 2008 & 2012 Olympic Games. Nim has been a member of the National Team of Israel since the age of 15. He has competed at all international levels including the Maccabiah Games, European Championships, World Championships, and the Olympics.


Nim started swimming at the age of 11. He was introduced to the sport after using the pool for physical therapy for a knee injury in 2000. During his rehabilitaion, he discovered his passion for swimming.
 

Here are some of his career highlights:

2-time Olympian: 2008 Beijing – semi finals and placed 15th in the 200 free. 2012 London - 200 free 

2014 - Israeli Champion LCM - 100 fly, 100 free, 50 fly.
2008-2013 - University of Arizona swim team - 12 times All America.
2013 - NCAA Div. I champion (Minneapolis USA) – 400 M.R. (University of Arizona).
2012 - Maccabiah Games Silver Medalist – 100 free (2nd after Jason Lezak).
2008 - Pac 12 Champion – 4*200 free relay.
2007 - Florida State 1A Championships (Bolles school) -- Won the 200 yard freestyle (1:38.37).
2007 - 17&18 boy LCM swimmer of the year - Florida swimming.
2007 - 34th European Junior Championships, Antwerp Belgium - 1 silver + 1 bronze 200 back, 400 free.
2006 - Named Times-Union Florida, All-First Coast Swimmer of the Year.
2005 - Junior Olympics, Italy Silver & 2 Bronze Medalist – 200 free, 400 free, 100 free.
Israeli Record holder 2 events LCM – 100 free (48.9), 200 free (1.47.74).
Holds 20 Israeli age group records.


Fun Fact: In addition to swimming, Nim also loves cooking and going on fishing trips!

Mike has been coaching for over 15 years, spending time between Wisconsin, Michigan, and Illinois coaching swimmers from novices to multiple NCSA qualifiers and everywhere in-between. Mike is currently pursuing a Master Degree in Applied Exercise Science and holds a Bachelor Degree from UW-Oshkosh. Mike started sharing his passion for swimming in 2004. While attending UW-Oshkosh, Mike coached at the Fox Cities YMCA. Upon graduating, Mike relocated with his wife to Chicago and joined Mundelein Mustang Swim Club as an Assistant Coach working his way up to Head Age Group Coach. Next, as a Head Coach in 2012 with the Beloit Aquatic Team, he produced their first National Level swimmer in over 20 years! Mike spent 3 years with the Woodstock Dolphins. While at Woodstock, he guided the program to produce its first Senior State Medalist, its first Speedo Sectional Qualifiers, and its first swimmers at NASA Jr National Cup!! Mike also produced many Age Group State Qualifiers, Zone Qualifiers, and rewrote the majority of the club’s swimming records. 

Fun Fact: Mike is as nerdy about computers as he is about swimming. Mike loves to spend time with his wife Rachel and his Black Lab Charlie :)

Ryne was born and raised in sunshine. He grew up in California, then went to Arizona State University to major in Kinesiology. At 10, he was conscripted into the sport of swimming by his parents after he criticized his brother one too many times. He eventually found a love of the sport that's led him to coaching. He made his high school state cut in the 100 Breaststroke his junior year, and went a 1:04.54. He participated on two league champion teams in high school. He then participated as an assistant volunteer to his HS alma mater, and began working on San Benito Aquatics with age group swimmers during his summer breaks. He has an Aussie/Collie dog named Autumn, and in his spare time he can be found either playing video games or writing stories. 

Fun Fact: He self-published his first sci-fi action novel in 2017 titled Through the Ghost.

Kwame Wardlaw

Kwame Wardlaw started at the Jewish Community Center in 2012. He was personally picked by four-time Olympic gold medalist Lenny Krayzelburg to be Head Instructor at LK swim academy. Soon after he became Head Coach of the JCC Hurricane Swim Team. In 2013 to further his knowledge Kwame started volunteer coaching under Coach Crosby for the West Bloomfield Community Ed Swim team. Soon after Kwame started working with two-time Israeli Olympic swimmer Nimrod Shapira on a day-to-day basis. 

During the 2014-15 school year Kwame was asked to coach West Bloomfield Community Ed Swim Team and West Bloomfield Girls Varsity Swim Team. Breaking the girls stretch of three years of not qualifying for State Meet bringing five girls to MHSAA D1 State Meet.  During the 2015-16 school year West Bloomfield qualified three relays and seven individual State cuts. Also, two girls made a combined of six USA swimming sectional cuts. 

For the 2015-16 season he was asked to coach West Bloomfield Boys Varsity swim team. West Bloomfield Boys were all league in the 400 Free Relay. Also qualified two relays and made seven individual state cuts and four USA sectional cuts. During his second year 2016-17 seasons, he had two relays make top 16. Also having a swimmer qualify for a future cut in the 50 free and made All state in the 50 and 100. 

In 2015 he also took on the West Bloomfield Middle school program. The Middle school was earning grow. He started with 15 swimmers and has grown the program tremendously since then. During the 2016-17 season, the program went from 15 to 60 swimmers while taking down four middle school girls records and making several MISCA middle school cuts.

So far West Bloomfield Girls and Boys Varsity and Middle swim team have taken down a total of 22 School records, 2 OAA White league record and three pool records.

Janis comes from a family of competitive swimmers being the youngest of 9. She began competitive swimming at age 8 at the YMCA in Detroit. Swimming was the thing Janis enjoyed most about her youth. Her Freshman year at Henry Ford High School she was All-City and took 3 rd in the city both boys and girls. Janis focus now is to share her love and passion for the sport with a new generation of swimmers and see the joy and pleasure the sport can bring them and their families.  

 Fun fact: Janis is an archer in her free time :)

Jeff joined AQUA Club two years ago as an assistant Coach.   Jeff started swimming competitively at Salem High School in Plymouth, Michigan (Go Rocks!) and was part of the two-time Conference Champion Team and a member of the 400 free relay team at MHSAA Boys Division I Swim Championship.  He went on to College to swim for Michigan Technological University (Go Huskies!) competing in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) and was Captain of the team.  Jeff is passionate about swimming, and is excited to be part of the AQUA coaching team - Go AQUA!!

Diane Fistler has been a licensed Physical Therapist since 1992 and has worked with patients of different age levels and in many different settings.  She is excited to assist with developing a program to decrease injuries to swimmers due to muscle imbalance.
