"I feel very fortunate to
be able to work with great athletes, parents and volunteers in a
community that values swimming and the experiences it
provides. I believe that swimming teaches our kids about work
ethic, perseverance, being a team player, empathy, goal setting and
developing life long skills that will help them long after their
swimming careers are over. I am here to help kids reach as
high as they want to go and I value all those who make the
commitment to improve themselves as swimmers and

My name is Alec Kandt and I am the
new Head Age Group Coach. I am very excited to be joining the EGRA
staff and most importantly the EGRA family. I look forward to
joining the team once I make the move from Florida to Grand Rapids.
Until then, here is a little bit of background information to help
you get to know me.
I was born and
raised in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota where I swam for South
East Metro Sharks swim club for ten years and achieved multiple
state titles. I graduated from Simley High School where I was a
State champion, All-American and currently still hold multiple
school, I continued my swimming career after being recruited to
swim for Coach Gianiodis at Michigan State University. Go Green!
While at MSU I was a 4-year letter winner, a 3-time Male Swimmer of
the year, top-8 Finisher at the BIG Ten championships. I am still
the Varsity Record holder in the 100 Breaststroke. While swimming
for MSU, I was given the opportunity to compete and even place at
many different major National meets, including the 2016 Olympic
Trials. I was selected to represent MSU on the Big Ten All Star
Team when they swam against the National Team in 2016.
While at MSU, I
was given a chance to start my coaching career. During my junior
year, I started coaching for Mid-Michigan Aquatics. I worked for
MMA for almost two years before I accepted a position with the
University of Florida And Gator Swim Club. Over the last year, I
have been the Volunteer Assistant for the University of Florida.
While with Florida I was the Primary Breaststroke Coach, but also
worked with Head Coach Gregg Troy and his group. This year I was
able to help the team to bring the 7
th straight SEC
Title back to the University of Florida. Also, while here in
Gainesville I worked with Gator Swim Club as an Assistant coach.
While with GSC I had the opportunity to work with the pro team and
coach athletes like Ryan Lochte, Caeleb Dressel, Jan Switkowski,
and many other high-profile athletes. My primary role with GSC was
coaching the groups that are equivalent to EGRA’S Silver and
Gold groups. While coaching with this group, I had multiple
swimmers reach success by achieving best times, State cuts, Zone
Cuts and even some Sectional cuts.
I am very
excited to join the EGRA family. One thing that really excited me
was how close knit the team is, it’s like a family with how
welcoming the Staff and Board have been. I’m looking forward
to joining the staff and bringing my passion, skills, and
experiences to help make this club even more successful than it
already is while still having fun. If you have any questions feel
free to call, text or email me!
