Coach - Black & White Group
Nicole is looking forward to yet another season
of coaching the JAWS swim team! Nicole has been a JAWS coach since
2010 and coaches all levels of swimmers - green, white, and black
groups at Jenison.
Nicole began swimming competitively for Jenison's age group team
when she was 6 years old and continued to swim through high school
with the JAWS club team and the Jenison High School team. She also
participated in water polo and volleyball in high school. Nicole
was one of the members on the inaugural JAWS team in 2003. She
graduated from Jenison in 2007. She then decided to attend Indiana
University, where she played division one water polo for four
years. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in human development,
psychology, and sociology. After graduating from college,
Nicole played and coached water polo in Australia
for three years.
Nicole has been working at the Jenison Aquatic Center on and
off since 2008, but was hired as the assistant aquatics
director and head JAWS coach in 2013. She is also active in
coaching the men’s and women’s high school water polo
teams. Nicole is extremely passionate about water sports and has
many aspirations for the upcoming JAWS seasons!
In 2018, Nicole married her best friend and high school
sweetheart, Duncan. They live in Jenison with their white boxer,
Prince, and orange tabby cat, Chester. In their free time they
enjoy gardening, camping, watching football, and exercising.
Jen will be subbing for all JAWS groups when needed! This will
be her 16th year coaching JAWS! Jen, along with Caroline
Clement, began the JAWS team in 2003, and has enjoyed watching the
team grow and progress over the years. She is very proud of
the swimmers, parents, and coaches here at Jenison!
Jen swam and played water polo at Jenison HS from 1993-1997
under Coach “Scrips” and Coach Caroline. She was
very active in USA swimming, but Forest Hills (RAYS) was one of the
few local USA teams during the mid 90s so she drove across town
daily to keep swimming. Coach Craig was one of the coaches at
RAYS while Jen swam there! After HS she went on to swim and play
water polo at The University of Michigan from 1997-2002 while
earning her undergrad degrees in psychology and sociology. From
2002-2003 she was a member of the USA National team for water polo
and lived in California where she trained.
She participated on the USA Jr. National Team on a trip to
France, and the USA National Team on a trip to China during her
swim career. She also participated in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic
Trials for swimming. She was also fortunate to play water polo for
the USA at tournaments in Greece, the Netherlands, and Austrailia.
In 2003, when she retired from swimming and water polo she headed
back to Jenison where she began to substitute teach at Jenison,
coach JV men’s water polo, and begin her Masters degree at
Western Michigan University in counseling education. Fortunately
the pool director job opened up at Jenison, and although she always
thought she would be a school counselor the job (running the pool)
was just too perfect so she applied and the rest is history!
Jen is very busy! She married Landry in 2005, had Kylie in 2008,
had Meric in 2011, earned her Masters degree in Educational
Leadership in 2011, had Nylah in 2015, helps coach, administrate,
and plan for JAWS year round, coaches HS men’s swimming in
the winter, and JH and age group water polo in the spring, all
while being the pool director full time. She was inducted into the
Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 for swimming and water
polo. She was also inducted into the Jenison HS Hall of Fame in
2015. Jen says she surrounds herself with great people that make
her job easier and so much fun. She loves Jenison, loves the pool,
and loves swimming!
I have been coaching competitive swimming since 1983 (age 17). During my career, I have acted as the Asst.Varsity Women's Swim Coach since 1990, Co-Head Varsity Men's Coach since 2011, and served as the Head JAWS Coach from 2002- 2014. During my tenure as a coach, I have also assisted the junior high program, assisted the High School Men in the early 2000s, and started my age group career as an assistant in 1998, prior to heading the JAWS program. I will continue with JAWS on part-time basis as an assistant coach.
My swim career started in Jenison with their age group program in 1973, and I swam for Jenison High School under Dan Scripsema (Scrips) from 1979 - 1982. I competed for the University of Michigan during the 1983-1984 season.
My philosophy is that all swimmers should learn proper technique while coupled with training, as appropriate for the age. The emphasis with novice swimmers should be learning technique and the rules of competition. As the athlete gains experience, rigorous training is increased, while still emphasizing proper technique. Of course, fun should always be implemented so that athletes want to remain in the sport.
This summer Coach Caroline will be working with members of the White and Black group during the afternoon Long Course Workouts. She will also be assisting during the AM workouts as needed by the program.

Craig is happy to return for his 20th? (I lost count) JAWS
swimming season. Before coming to JAWS, Craig coached Jenison's
Age-Group program back in the mid 1980s through early 1990s. From
there he coached the newly formed Rapids Area YMCA Swimmers (RAYS)
swim team in Forest Hills and was an assistant coach of its YMCA
Long Course National Championship teams in 1993 and 1994.
With USA Swimming being a large part of his life, Craig coached a
Hudsonville satellite program with West Michigan Swimmers (WMS) for
five seasons. He is recently completed his 7th season as assistant
coach for Jenison's Women's Varsity Swim Team.
Craig is a proud 1986 graduate of Jenison High School where he
swam for 3 years on its varsity swim team. He attended Grand Valley
State University, swimming one season and graduating with a degree
in Group Social Studies and Elementary Education. He later returned
to GVSU to earn his Masters Degree in Elementary Leadership. Craig
is currently a fourth grade teacher at Bauerwood Elementary in
Jenison. Craig has three children, all who have participated in
Jenison's swimming, diving, and/or water polo programs. Craig
enjoys watching young people reach their goals, swim fast, and
become successful. Swimming is more than a sport, it's a lifelong
skill filled with lifelong memories. Go JAWS!

Hello, my name is Christine Wisniewski. I
started coaching for JAWS in fall of 2018. I started swimming as an
8yr old for the Wyoming Wahoos during the summer seasons. We lived
in Louisiana and would come home to visit family during the summer
months. My family moved back to Michigan when I was 12 and I
started swimming for the Hudsonville Eagles and continued through
my senior year of high school. I was fortunate to start high school
right after Hudsonville started their first water polo club, and
was a part of the very first varsity program. During my high school
years I also coached for the age group swim program year round.
I graduated high school in 1999 and continued
my education at Michigan State University. While at school I participated in the
Collegiate Club Water Polo program. I was fortunate enough to be
part of a program that went to the Collegiate Club National
Championships all 4 years, making it to the National Championship
game every year. The lady Spartans were back to back champions 2001
I met my best friend and future husband Brad
in 2006, right when I got my first full time “real” job
at MPI Research, now Charles River Labs. We married in 2008 and
welcomed 2 amazing kids Samantha (2010) and Mason (2012) shortly
after. Samantha joined
the JAWS green group in fall 2016 and loved it. Mason joined summer
2018. I started out coaching the Green Group right after Masons
first season. I will start coaching Green and White this season. I
have loved getting back into coaching and look forward to all the
amazing seasons to come.

I am coach Erica. I have been coaching for JAWS since January of
2018. I have spent most of my life on a pool deck. My dad
coached at Godwin Heights when I was a toddler and I joined a
competitive swim team at the age of 8. I grew up swimming for the
Traverse City Breakers from 2000 to 2004, and then Rockford
Riptide from 2004-2010. I swam for Rockford High School from
I went on to swim in college as a D1 athlete for Bowling Green
State University my freshman year of college and then Michigan
State University as a sophomore. After two years as a college
athlete, it was time to hang up the goggles. While I was at MSU, I
coached for Spartan Swim Club, Okemos Middle School, and Okemos
High School Boys. I graduated from Michigan State in 2014, with a
Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics.
In 2014 and 2015, I coached for Forest Hills
Northern/Eastern High School girls. Between 2016 and starting with
JAWS, I got married to my husband Josh and we moved to
Jenison! I am so excited to be apart of the JAWS coaching
staff and love being on the pool deck. I was lucky enough to swim
with all 3 of my siblings, whether it be in age group swimming,
high school, or college. Swimming was my first love and it is
a passion I have carried throughout my life.
When I am not at the pool, you can find me reading, watching TV
shows with my hubby, playing with my two bunnies, or training for a
running event with Team World Vision.
I am excited for this 2019-2020 season, go JAWS!

Rick is returning for his second winter season as a volunteer
coach. Rick swam in West Michigan swim clubs from 10 years old all
the way through High School.
He married his best friend Onnilie in 2001. They have
two wonderful daughters Lillian Faith and Marion Joy who are on the
JAWS Green Team.

for swimming that my coaches gave to me! Thank you for letting me
coach your child. I will give nothing less than my best!"

Hello! My name is Coach Hope and I have been a part of the
Jenison Aquatics community for most of my life. In 2009, I started
swimming for JAWS (then called JAG) and continued all the way
through 2017. In addition, I swam for Jenison's junior high and
high school teams (2012-2017). I graduated from Jenison High
School in 2018. I loved having competitive/age group
swimming as a part of my life and I cannot wait to share
that love for the sport now as a coach. During high school, I
volunteer-coached with JAWS for two winter seasons, but I
didn't officially become a coach until the summer of 2019. I
thoroughly enjoyed it and I cannot wait to coach for several
seasons to come.
I started working for the Jenison Aquatic Center in June of 2017
as a lifeguard. Now, I work at the pool as a lifeguard, JAWS
coach, and group/private swim lesson instructor. In other words,
I'm around the pool quite a bit!
As of the 2019-2020 school year, I am a sophomore at Hope
College where I study Comprehensive K-8 Spanish Education.
After graduation, I plan to become an Elementary Spanish Immersion
teacher somewhere in West Michigan.
When I'm not at the pool, I enjoy playing tennis, singing,
playing the piano/accompanying, and spending time with family &

Hello, my name is Jill Berry. This will be my third season coaching for JAWS. I have many years of personal swimming, coaching, and swim lesson experience. I began swimming for an age group team when I was 4, continued through high school and swam in college as well. In the meantime, I was a swim instructor starting when I was 14, then following College swim I took a position coaching the Wyoming Wahoo age group team, when that pool closed, our coaching staff was asked to take over at Kentwood’s new pool facility (KAC), where I coached until last summer. This totals to almost 20 years of experience teaching kids to swim and to love swimming. This is truly a passion for me and I look forward to working with your children, and assure you that they are in wonderfully caring and capable hands at whichever level they are entering the team.
