Mathew Carpenter

Lead Coach, Red and Gold Groups

I started swimming when I was 8 years old when I joined the Sterling Sea Devils(SSD). I spent my age group years swimming with SSD and have so many great memories.  In the 10th grade, I began to swim for Stevenson High School where I earned 3 varsity letters and multiple state qualifying times.  As a senior, I was voted captain and most valuable by my team mates and I also earned all county honors.

After high school, I began coaching with Stevenson where I had the privilege of coaching many county and state meet qualifying swimmers.  After 10 years of coaching high school I stepped away from the sport for a few years so that I can concentrate on my family.  About three years ago I got the opportunity to start coaching with the Marlins and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the kids.  It is amazing to be involved in helping them improve and accomplish there goals.

I had a great experience growing up as a swimmer and my hope for the current swimmers is that they too have a great experience that they will always remember.

Madeline Colby

Coach of Black and Blue Groups

Madeline Colby will begin as a coach for our black and blue groups.

Madeline graduated from Notre Dame College of Ohio with a degree in psychology.

While at Notre Dame, she was the captain of the swimming and diving team for 3 years. During her time as captain, Madeline participated in many coaching clinics, along with teaching group and private lessons. Madeline has a great deal of experience in stroke technique based training. She has worked with all different skill and age levels. Madeline’s responsibility as a captain included developing lesson plans, as well as organizing and running practices

Kelsey L'Heureux

Coach, Summer, All Groups

My name is Kelsey L’Heureux, I began coaching in the Grand Rapids Area, for a USA team called JAWS. I have worked with ages 5-21 years old, and have knowledge and skills in with all strokes of swimming. I gained an abundance amount of knowledge and coaching techniques from the veteran coaches I worked with for 4 years at JAWS.
I played many sports before swimming but unfortunately broke both my ankles so I decided a non-weight bearing sport would be the best option. I swam at LCN under Mike Owensby and Pat who was a previous Marlins coach. When I began swimming I succeeded rather quickly and had a natural talent for the sport.
I am looking forward to getting to know the Marlin families this summer along with challenging the kids but most of all having some fun and making sure the kids are having a great experience.
