Spartans Leadership

The Spartans integrate our whole community in the development of every athlete. To contribute your time and talent to any of these activities for the benefit of the whole team, contact any leader directly:

 

Our Coaching Staff focus on the physical and mental preparation of athletes for the sport of competitive swim racing.

 

The Board of Directors of the Spartans Swim Team Boosters coordinate parent volunteers for all team administrative functions, including running home meets and time trials, team-building events, fundraising, and team communications (bulletin board, email, website: My Account, My Meet Results, $My Invoice/Payment).

 

The Village of Ossining Recreation and Parks Department manage and collect all monthly Spartans membership dues at the front desk of the Community Center or via its online registration system.

Mike Kane

Head Coach

Head Coach Mike Kane has over 15 years experience coaching on the USA Swimming club level on Long Island and in Denver, Colorado. Mike has coached several New York High School State Champions and an Olympic Trials qualifier. During a 3-year stint as head coach of the Denver Athletic Club Masters team, he coached 3 swimmers to age-group #1 rankings and 2 swimmers to age-group national records. As a swimmer, Mike was a Junior National Qualifier in freestyle and breaststroke and competed on Duke University's Swim Team. Coach Mike spent the summers of his youth lifeguarding on the beaches of Long Island and is an avid open water swimmer. In 2008, he traded the shores of Long Island for the banks of the Hudson River and believes that the Spartans Swim Team can be the best youth sports experience in the country.

Nico San Martin

Coach Nico San Martin has been with the Spartans first as a swimmer and now as a coach for over 8 years.  He was the Team Captain of the Spartans for 4 years, and Captain of the Ossining High School Boys Varsity Swimming team for 3 years, earning regional honors and setting several school records. He focuses on developing the endurance and discipline of swimmers, drawing off his continuing experience as a competitive swimmer.  Through working one-on-one with individual swimmers, and through hands-on demonstration, he helps athletes to reach their training and performance goals.   A 2017 graduate of Ossining High, he plans to continue his swimming career at the collegiate level.

Greg Bernstein

Coach Greg Bernstein has over 12 years experience coaching and teaching swimming to multiple age groups. He brings passion for swimming to the pool deck every day and believes in teaching swimmers consistency with adaptation. Greg holds a degree in psychology and philosophy as well as being certified in behavior modification. Stroke development and building mental competitiveness and toughness are Greg's key strengths. His swimmers learn that "it comes down to keeping at it." Greg coached many 8 & under swimmers to qualifying times for the Junior Olympics, High-Point IMX scores, and other Championship levels. Coach Greg's experience is a broad as it is deep: he is also the Head Coach of the Ossining USA Masters Swim Team and his prior experience includes age-group coaching at the Pace Setters Swim Team and the Rivertown Aquatics Swim Team.
