Gay Silverman is the owner and head coach of the Silver Streaks which she and her husband, Alan, began in 1973. Mrs. S has been motivating youngsters, at all levels of ability and performance, for 50 years. With degrees in physiology and psychology, and years of teaching, she knows the body mechanics necessary for efficient swimming technique and can motivate and inspire youngsters to reach their full potential both in and out of the water.
Gay Silverman knows what it takes to be a champion. Having competed on a National level herself, she knows what is required to perform at that level. She and her husband coached Top 10 Nationally ranked swimmers as well as High School and College All Americans. At the same time, she has also coached those who have not reached the Metropolitan Silver Championship level.
Each year, at the parents' meeting, Mrs. Silverman says: "If your child only gets swimming excellence from this program, we have failed." Silver Streaks is so much more than just swimming. Her view of the Club is that Silver Streaks is a team where unique individuals have come together, with mutual respect, and have strived to be the best that they can be; a place where our coaches continue to help youngsters to believe in themselves and their own potential.
