Mathew Mixon joined the Vicksburg Swim Association (VSA) as Head
Coach in November 2008. Since then, the swim team has grown in
size, sportsmanship and achievement.
A native of Brandon, Mississippi, he started recreational youth
sports at an early age and continued through the collegiate level.
He attended nationally ranked Division II Delta State University
where he earned several top 8 finishes at the NSISL Conference
Championship. Mathew graduated with a bachelor degree in Commercial
Mathew has previously served as Head Women’s and Men’s Coach at Madison Central High School and Brandon High School. In addition to leading the VSA Killer Whales, Mathew is also the current Head Women’s and Men’s Coach for Warren Central High School. Mathew is an ASCA Level 1 Coach and attended the 2012 American Swim Coaches World Coaches Clinic in Las Vegas, and the US Aquatic Sport Convention in Anaheim, CA in 2013.
Mathew has had the privilege to serve on the Mississippi Swimming Board of Directors for the past four years as Technical Planning Chair and Age Group Chair. He was recently elected to serve again in 2015-2017 as the Administrative Vice Chair. Mathew has represented our state three times as the Mississippi Zone Team Coach, twice as an assist and this past summer as head coach, leading our Mississippi team to the highest placement in over a decade.
Mathew is owner and CEO of Live Slow Swim Fast, LLC and has provided thousands of private stroke lessons for the past 17 years, from beginners to nationally ranked USA Swimming Age Groupers. Some fun facts about Mathew are he has been skydiving twice, and is a 2xIronman Finisher. He and his beautiful wife Lindsay have beautiful little girl named Vida Rose.
