Casey Charles

Head Coach

Email

Entering his 16th season with the ECA, Coach Casey has fostered the meteoric rise in not only the number of swimmers on the team, but the success of those swimmers at championship meets.  In 2003, as the head assistant coach, the GSC numbered 85 swimmers.  During the 2011-2012 season, the GSC numbered close to 300 swimmers from 4 to 78 years old spanning three counties.  During that 16 year period, GSC swimmers have won over 70 state titles, 15 sectional titles, 1 national title, and 1 Olympic gold medal.

Coach Casey stresses personal accountability, time management, and an arduous work ethic with all of his swimmers. Structure, progression, and adaptation are also staples in his swimming philosophy, which dictates the overall goals and mindset of the GSC.

Coach Casey has coached world ranked, nationally ranked, and state ranked swimmers over the past 10 years.   In 2009, Coach Casey saw GSC pickup its first ever individual national title when Lauren Perdue swam to gold in the 200 meter freestyle at the Junior National Championships.  In 2012, Lauren Perdue earned an Olympic gold medal in London as part of the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay for the USA.

For the 2008-09 Season (2008 Long course season and 2009 Short course season), Coach Casey was awarded the North Carolina Senior State Coach of the Year.   During that season, Coach Casey's swimmers swam to seven state records, an 11th place team finish at USA Junior Nationals, a top 10 finish at Southeastern Sectionals, and a top 8 finish at North Carolina State Championships.

As a swimmer, Coach Casey enjoyed success throughout his 18 year career in which he set over 50 club team and 10 high school records in West Palm Beach, FL. As a result of his success, Coach Casey was awarded a scholarship to swim for East Carolina University where he helped his team to runner-up finishes during the 2001, 2002, and 2003 Conference Championships.    During the 2000-2001 season Coach Casey was awarded the Rookie of the Year award for the team’s top performer as a freshman.  He is also a former Conference USA and ECU varsity record holder in the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay.  Coach Casey holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master's Degree in High School English. He is currently an English Teacher at an area high school.

In 2001 Coach Scott helped start a year-around swim team in Washington. Starting with only 4 swimmers, the team quickly grew to well over 50 in the first year.   In 2002, the independent team merged with the ECA and would operate as a satellite program.   Coach Scott continues to run the successful satellite program; however, the accomplishments of his swimmers in Washington helped him secure a coaching position in Greenville as well in 2005. He was soon promoted to Head Age Group Coach.  During Coach Scott's career his swimmers have set multiple team records, placed very high in state competition including several state and sectional titles, and also achieving national top-16 times.

Coach Scott's love for the sport stemmed from his successful swimming career in high school where he set Washington High School Records in both the 50 and 100 freestyles.   He has a passion for helping kids reach their potential in both swimming and life.   He resides in Washington with his wife Emily and their daughters Elli, Anna Brey, and Hayley Scott.

Brittany grew up in Greenville, NC and swam competitively with the Gators for 12 years.  She also swam for Rose High School for 4 years where she served as the team captain and leading scorer. She went on to swim her freshman year for UNC Asheville, a division I women's swim program. Do to a chronic knee injury that ended her swimming career we have been fortunate enough to have her return to our program as a coach.

Brittany has been involved with swimming her whole life. Following in her family footsteps with not only swimming, but also coaching for our program. She is the last Parker to join our coaching staff, and the youngest of the four Parkers. Brittany was the Parker who insisted on joining our program at seven years old, thankfully the rest of the Parkers shared her love for swimming and all joined together.

Before Brittany started swimming with the Gators she started out swimming summer league with Brook Valley Barracudas.  When she was in high school she returned to this team on the coaching staff for three years and swam in some meets.  She has also coached for our own swimmer league program, Minges Makos.

Brittany will be starting her second year coaching at ECA, and will be working with multiple groups from the youngest in gator group up to currents.

My love of swimming started from the age of four and never really died out. I am originally from McDonough, Georgia where I lived for 17 years.I coached my summer league team, taught swim lessons for special needs children, and swam year round until we moved. Half way through my junior year I had knee surgery and moved to North Carolina and had to put swimming on the back burner. I swam my last year of high school at Cardinal Gibbons and now swim for the East Carolina Club team. In my spare time I am an exercise physiology major and the secretary of the team. I love having your kids in the water and will see you on the pool deck!

For the past 5 years, I’ve had the pleasure of coaching the green group at the Morehead City site. I started out as a trained parent volunteer substitute coach, quickly learning that I had a genuine interest and concern for our swimmers and their developing bodies.  I am a former competitive swimmer who was training for and had serious aspirations to swim at the collegiate level.  Sadly, July 1988 my plans.  I suffered a double knee injury, due to poor kicking technique.   I’m passionate about making sure my swimmers have the proper tools and technique to avoid any sporting injury if at all possible.
