Alex J Cronin
Head Coach and Owner, Senior Group Coach
Coach Alex Cronin founded APEX Aquatics at Bosse in September of 2015. Previously Coach Alex was the head coach and owner of Phoenix Swimming at Bosse, the head coach of the MetroWest Aquatic Club and the Age Group Director and Associate Head Coach of Bernal’s Gator Swim Club.
During his tenure at Phoenix Swimming, Alex was recognized with the 2014 Outstanding Achievement award by the American Swim Coaches Association for his work with Olympic Gold Medalist Rhi Jeffrey. His group of athletes contributed to first place finishes at the New England Senior Championships, the New England 13&Over Age Group Championships, a men’s team title at the Eastern Zone Speedo Sectionals meet as well as second place finishes at the New England 12&Under Championships. He had athletes that met standard for National Reportable Time (Top 16), New England Top Ten and New England Outstanding Swimmers. His athletes broke individual New England records as well as contributing to New England relay records.
Utilizing the opportunity to be mentored by Olympic Coach Joe Bernal, Coach Alex spent eight years coaching for the Bernal’s Gator Swim Club. At BGSC Alex developed a technical approach to the sport of swimming that puts emphasis on educating and motivating swimmers towards their full potential. He believes that there is a science and art to coaching and that when both are emphasized the athletes in a program fully develop. During his tenure at Gator, Alex developed many New England champions and swimmers that placed amongst the top ranked swimmers in the country. Many of these athletes have gone on to strong showings at NCAA National Championships, USA Swimming Senior Nationals, US Olympic Trials and many more top-level national and international meets.
Coach Alex is a high energy coach who works well with young athletes, while educating and coordinating with their parents to put the swimmer in the best possible situation to maximize their potential. He has a proven track record in New England swimming for technical efficiency and high levels of success. Excited to usher in a new tradition of excellence for USA Swimming with Apex Aquatics Association, Alex draws from the rich traditions of his past and innovations developing at the forefront of the sport to put together a dynamic program in which athletes of all ability levels can thrive.
Director of Strength and Conditioning
Jared Pierce is the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Apex Aquatics and Personal Trainer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has experience working with clients across all ages and fitness levels. He was an athlete through High School and College so he understand the stresses and hardships that the swimmers are undergoing. His goals for the team are to help the athletes build more strength, endurance, and confidence through their dry land training, while educating them on proper technique and injury prevention.
Jared received his Bachelors of Science in Exercise & Sports Science, with a minor in Coaching from Ursinus College, he is a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine, and is TRX certified.
Mark Grothman is our Spin Instructor working mainly with the Junior and Senior groups. Mark has a rich history in health and wellness. He is a ballet teacher at the prestigious Walnut Hill School For The Arts and was a dancer for the American Ballet Theatre from 1987-1998. Mark coordinates with Jared Pierce, our Director of Strength and Conditioning, to enhance our dry land programming.
Mark and his wife, Denise, have two lovely daughters, Bridgette, who swims for APEX, and Mallory.
Pre-Elite/Elite/AGJR Group Coach
Kelly is the Elite Group coach. Kelly grew up in Westwood and swam for the New England Barracuda's as a child and Ocean State Squid in Middle School and High School. Kelly was also a lifeguard, swim instructor and coach for the Westwood Recreation department when she was in High School and had several of the APEX swimmers in her lessons when they were learning to swim. After Swimming Kelly Attended the University of New Hampshire to study Exercise Science. After college Kelly began coaching for New England swimming with an area club team. Kelly comes to APEX swimming with almost 10 years experience coaching swimmers ages 8-13.
Alexandra Marie Frazier
Alexandra joined the coaching staff in the spring of 2016. A lifelong club and high school swimmer, Alexandra is on the Westfield State Swim Team (Class of 2019) where she was named MVP for swimming in the 2015-2016 school year. Alexandra swam club up through High School, swimming part of her tenure under Coach Alex Cronin. She is a strong addition to the APEX coaching staff.
In the Long Course seasons, Alexandra works with our younger swimmers and remains on board as needed/available during the Fall/Winter seasons. She has a passion for the sport of swimming, education and health & wellness.
Elite/AGSR/Senior Group Coach
Coach Kyle Myers, a Florida native, swam competitively for Florida Atlantic University. From 2009-2010 a Senior Assistant Coach with the Quantico Devil Dolphins in Northern Virginia, he developed a group of Top-10 nationally ranked swimmers in addition to coaching a swimmer to multiple state records and a Top-3 National Ranking. Myers assisted in coaching multiple swimmers qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Trials and was selected as a coach for the Virginia Zone Team.
From 2013-2015 at the Marlins of Raleigh, Kyle trained his first swimmer qualifying in 2 individual events for the 2016 Olympic Trials and a Number 1 National Ranking. He also trained 4 swimmers qualifying for the NCSA Junior National meet, 2 swimmers qualifying and participating in the Southern Zone Select Camp, 2 swimmers for the USA Summer Junior National meet and USA Winter Senior National meet. In 2014, Coach Kyle was nominated for the North Carolina Swimming Age-Group Coach of the Year. In 2015, one of Kyle's swimmers qualified, competed and placed 14th overall in the 200 meter Breast at the FINA Junior World Championships in Singapore. With this distinction, Kyle was placed on the Team USA National Junior Team Coaches' List and was a top 10 finalist for the American Swim Coaches Association Age Group Coach of the Year Award.
Coach Kyle Myers was recently the Head Coach for Exeter Swim Team. While there, Kyle developed 4 Top 20 Nationally ranked swimmers and New England Swimming Age Group Champions. During the summer of 2016, one of Kyle's swimmers placed 12th in the 100 meter breast at the Summer Junior National Championships and qualified for Winter Senior Nationals.
Coach Kyle has led his swimmers to achieve six positions on the USA Swimming All-Time Top 100 List. Some of Kyle's swimmers have furthered their swimming careers to attend and compete for Cal Tech, University of Maine and UMASS-Amherst.
