Janet Harty was named the Head Coach
of YNS in the Fall of 2015 and brought with her many
years of coaching experience. She has coached swimmers of all ages
starting with lessons and moving up through the age groups to very
high level competitive swimmers. Janet led swimmers to a wide range
of national and international competitions including the
4th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in
Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the 18 & Under World Cup held
in Tokyo, Japan and Beijing, China. She has coached swimmers named
to USA Swimming National Junior teams in 2014, 2015 and 2016
and served as an assistant coach at the 2014 USA Swimming National
Junior team training camp held at the Olympic Training Center in
Colorado Springs, CO.
Janet, her husband Phil and their
children live in Salisbury. Janet's oldest son, Brandon,
graduated from the Mount Wachusett Community College and is
currently working full time while completing his degree online. Her
son, Ryan, is a junior student/athlete swimmer at the University of
Texas in Austin and her daughter, Kaitlin, is a sophomore
student/athlete swimmer also at the University of Texas in

Laura joined the YNS coaching staff in 2008 as a masters coach for Beverly, and Ipswich. Shortly after she added masters practices at our Cape Ann site. In 2010 Laura became the lead site coach for Cape Ann, working with swimmers from age 3 to adulthood. In 2014 Laura started the Gloucester High School swim team, and in 2016 she became the YNS head masters coach.
Laura and her husband Steve recently purchased a home in Gloucester. When Laura is not by the pool with her YNS swimmers, she enjoys bringing her three sons Phillip Cruz, William, and Elliot swimming.
Beverly Masters Coach
Alessandro joined the full time YNS staff in the fall of 2015 as the Lead Age Group Coach, overseeing the development and progress of over 200 athletes under the age of 12. Alessandro primarily coaches Age Groups 1, 2, and 3 at the Beverly location in addition to assisting the Senior Group. Prior to 2015 Alessandro was the lead site coach of the Haverhill site and has assisted in multiple other roles at the Beverly site since 2011. Before coaching, Alessandro swam for YNS from 2003-2013. Alessandro graduated from Merrimack College in 2015 with a B.A. in Human Development.

As a Bronze and Age Group coach, Jen gained
experience first teaching group lessons since 1999 and
the Bronze Group since 2004 where she learned first hand from
Coach Susan Guertin. She is an Assistant Coach at
Marblehead High School, USMS Certified Coach Level 3, and ASCA
Level 2 coach. Jen's strengths as a Masters Coach at YNS
derive from the joy of swimming for fitness and
Jen graduated from Marblehead High School, class of '76, received
her Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan at
Ann Arbor and received her Masters from the University of
Texas at Austin. She led an excavation of the first
of twelve tombs discovered in an old olive grove/new lettuce
patch which turned out to be the ancient Necropolis of
Matapontion/Metapontum in Southern Italy. She was also
fortunate to be one of 5 crew on a TransAtlantic sailboat crossing
from Antigua, in the West Indies, to Pula, in Croatia. Jen has
three children, a daughter who started at Harvard's Graduate School
of Design in Landscape Architecture in Fall of 2017, a daughter in
her sophomore year at UMass, Amherst, and a son who is a
Personal Care Assistant in Marblehead with a part time job at the
Marblehead House of Pizza. On the topic of food: A member of the
sandwich generation of baby boomers, Jen is caring for her mother
Jen has been coordinating Masters Open Water Wednesday practices
off of Devereux Beach at the morning practice time of the
Lynch/van Otterloo branch so that we have a venue for regular
workouts in open water to serve our triathletes and open water
swimmers. We have been able to provide a coach in kayak and a coach
on the beach for the past few summer seasons and hope to
have enough interest to continue those practices in
LVO Masters Coach
Jenny joined the YNS staff in 2008 as director of dryland training for the Junior and Senior groups and is currently the LvO Co-Site Coordinator for the Junior and Senior YNS swimmers. She has been involved in swimming for more than 30 years. As a college athlete, she was conference champion and record holder for the Kenyon College swim team, who currently has 23 NCAA Division III National Championships. Kenyon can proudly boast that no other women's program, in any sport or any division in NCAA history has every held as many titles.
As a master swimmer, she is a national champion, USMS All American and world record relay titleholder. Bob Seltzer, Jenny's husband, has been a Meet Referee for over 15 years. Her step-daughter Danielle Seltzer was a 2009 NCAA All American swimmer and her son Charlie, a YNS alum, is a freshman at Amherst College, where he is a member of the swim team. Jenny is an ASCA Level 2 certified coach.

Haverhill Masters Coach
Rick Battistini is a Bridgewater State graduate w/a B/S in Physical Education with an emphasis in Aquatics. He was a Captain, varsity record holder, Collegiate All East in IM and 2 time National Competitor there and has recently been nominated for their Sports Hall of Fame.
He has been a Head Coach of some of New England's Top High School, YMCA, AAU, US and Masters teams over the last 45 years. Haverhill Y, Haverhill Country Club, Lowell Y, Merimac Valley Pirates, Andover, Haverhill and Lowell Varsity HS's and New Wave Swim Club to name a few.
He is an ASCA level IV coach who has received Y National Coaches Excellence Award, New England Age Group Coach of the Year, 10 Coach of the year HS Conference Awards, 3 Lowell Sun, 4 Eagle Tribune and 2 Boston Globe Coach of the year awards. He was inducted into the Mass HS Swim Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008, sat on the MIAA Swim Committee for over 25 years where he was a Section and State Tournament Director.
He preaches a priority list of family, scholastics, health then sport. His emphasis is on attendance,effort and attitude. He has coached several HS Sate champions in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, HS And Y All Americans, New England age group and senior champions and US Sectional and Junior National finalists.
Coach Batt is a national champ in masters swimming, medaled at FINA worlds in 2014 and is an avid competitive ocean kayaker. He helps manage a family business in Haverhill and lives with his wife Michele in Tewksbury.
Haverhill Masters Coach
Carol swam for YWCA league, AAU, and summer club specializing in sprints and butterfly. She swam for one year at Kent State College. She is originally from New Jersey and relocated to Massachusetts. In 2001, she joined the ANA Masters Team where she still swims and competes.

Her coaching career began in 1970 primarily as a diving instructor and then as a swim coach of a team that produced two national champions in 1979. Carol is an ASCA Level 1 and currently coaches swimming at Lowell and Haverhill High Schools, as well as the dive team at Lowell. She loves working with swimmers of all ages as it always teaches her something new.
She is married with three boys, two daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Family has always been important to her and she enjoys spending as much time with them as possible. Carol’s interests include singing in a chorus and bowling once a week.
