Meet our Coaching Staff
Emmanuel "Manny" Ramirez was named the new Head Coach when team owner David Alonso was ready to formally announce a new head coach and successor after his success during the 2013 Spring and Summer Long Course Season. Manny was preached heavily by David Alonso for his commitment to growing the program for Union City and making sure that the idea remains a cornerstone and legacy. Manny was the perfect candidate for his endless dedication to the program as he had previously volunteered as assistant coach for the summer league team, the UCHS teams, and Eagle Aquatic Club. He has become the new face of the program by recruiting more swimmers from the Union City Eagles summer league team and the city swim lessons. Manny is the only member of the coaching staff to have swam under the guidance of all three of the founding board members, and then having "shadowed" them as an assistant coach. Manny began his swimming career much later than most athletes, but when he did he worked rigorously to improve and develop his skills. Still only in college, Manny brings a lot of life and dedication to the coaching staff, and his love of the sport also translates to his ultimate goal of becoming a Physical Education Teacher so that he can continue educating young student-athletes on the importance of leading active lifestyles. Coach Manny is also very proud to have his swimmers qualify to compete in the New Jersey Junior Olympics and Zones.
Scott Gerrity is the "Bronze Team" specialist and brings years of swimming experience to the coaching staff. Scott loves teaching new swimmers with no prior swimming experience and training them to develop their skills to a much higher level. Scott has made the transition easier for most swimmers who are either new to the sport of swimming or whose only prior swimming experience includes summer recreation. The Eagle Aquatic Club has seen numerous swimmers move up from Scott's Bronze Team ready to compete in a variety of different state wide championship meets such as Silver/Bronze and even the NJ Junior Olympics! He is well regarded by the parents of Eagle Aquatics for his patience in the proper development of the swimmers, and for his commitment to the kids in making sure that they receive the absolute best stroke development program before they begin training more intensively with the upper practice groups. The Bronze Team serves as a launching pad for the team and Scott is the perfect coach for the group! Scott's prior swimming experience includes swimming for St. Joseph's of The Palisades from 1977 to 1980 under Michael Scerbo where he was the record holder in all the freestyle events, the 100 fly, and 200 IM. Scott then continued his swimming career in college where he swam at William Paterson University under head coach Ed Gurka and again was the record holder in multiple freestyle events. Scott's club swimming experience includes swimming for the Jersey Gothics Swim Team, a team that was previously based out of New Jersey City University (then called Jersey City State College). His greatest accomplishment as a swimmer is without a doubt when he qualified for the Olympic Time Trials at the Hall of Fame Training Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the 200 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Fly. Currently, Scott is the supervisory manager at our Ron Dario Swim Center where he not only coaches the Bronze Team but also oversees all of the swimming programs the facility offers.
Nick is the "Gold team" Specialist and brings years of experience to the Eagles. A competitive swimmer since the age of five, Nick excelled in the sport in his native Thailand as a national swimmer. He has competed numerous times both nationally and internationally during his swimming career. He was once on the Thai sport magazine cover for athlete of the year and was the one chosen to be the private instructor for the Thailand Majesty’s children. He has coached a lot of Thai swimmers to compete on the national and international level. Coach Nick is also proud to have coached many of his swimmers to qualify for the Junior Olympic, Zones and Sectional. Because of his tremendous love for the sport, you will always see his passion for coaching at every practice.
Coach Adalid has been with Eagle Aquatic Club since 2010. He currently coaches the Gold and Silver group. Coach Adalid has been involved in the sport of swimming from a young age, and started his coaching career at the Eagle Aquatic Club while still attending College. With the Eagle Aquatic Club, Coach Adalid has helped out tremendously and has brought much passion, enthusiastic and love for the sport with him. Coach Adalid was also appointed to be the coach and manager of Union City Recreation team in the summer. Coach Adalid believes that swimming teaches discipline and the relationship between work and results. He believes that it also prepares us how to deal with success, set-backs and failures, and the complexities of working cooperatively with others.
Coach Rattana is the “Age Group coach for the Gold team”. She began her swimming career competitively in her native country of Thailand where she swam in High School and College. The Eagles are so happy to have Rattana and her years of coaching experience to the Club. Rattana is very proud to have her swimmers qualify for the NJ Junior Olympics and Zones. She’s also the mother of two swimmers who swim for the Eagles. Passion, dedication, love for the sport, and love for the kids fuels her desire to coach.
