Head Coach; Junior 3,LS Lead Coach
Ruby was born and raised
in beautiful Salt Lake City, UT. She began swimming
competitively at age 6. She came from a “swim family”,
with all of her brothers and sisters dedicated to the sport. The
family life was dedicated to the swim team, and she spent most
of her youth on deck.
Ruby began her swimming career as a sprint
freestyler, and then progressed to compete in mid-distance
breaststroke and butterfly, taking the podium at the State
Championships at the senior level. She was nominated and named
1st team All-State and 2nd team All-American Water Polo player. She
trained with the Mountain West Zone water polo team to compete
nationally for JO title.
Ruby went on to play water polo at the
University of Utah where she also studied Art History. She spent
all of her free time hiking, running, and snowboarding in the
mountains behind her home. She also taught/coached
snowboarding throughout her college career. During her time at the
U of U, she coached the Skyline high school water polo team, taking
them to the State Championships- placing 2nd. She also coached the
Summer League Team that she had swam with every season- from ages
has stayed close to the sport, and in recent years has competed in
numerous triathlons, including a half-ironman. She is also a
student of the sport, as someone who loves to keep her nose in
books by Sweetenham, Brooks (her childhood coach), and most
recently- Coyle. She is an ASCA and USA certified coach and
continues to maintain a high level of passion and drive season
after season. Her swimmers have seen tremendous success, some going
from bronze level to JO in a single season. Needless to
say…she loves swimming
has a deep passion for the sport. She has two children currently on
the team and
is 100% committed to the teams’ success. She has deep respect
Ruby has three children ages 11, 9, and
5. Her two boys and little girl are the lights of her
life. They have a passion for life that has inspires her daily.
She and her husband Sam are both born and raised
Utahns. They moved to Hunterdon County with their three
children 5 years ago and immediately fell in love with the area.
They love to hike, bike, snowboard, and camp together as a

Kristen grew up in Horsham, PA and started
swimming competitively at the age of 8. As a child, she swam for a
variety of teams, including all four years at Hatboro-Horsham High
School, where she was a PIAA district- and state-qualifier and
captain her senior year. Kristen also swam during her freshman year
of college at The College of New Jersey. Career swimming highlights
include All-American relay honors in high school and qualifying for
YMCA nationals in 2004. Kristen began her coaching career in 2006
as an assistant coach with her old summer league team, and she has
about 7 years of piecemeal experience between various summer
leagues, YMCA, and USA teams.
Kristen joined the HCY coaching staff in Fall
2015 and has spent most of that time leading the top 12&Us. Of
the 53 team records broken since she joined the staff, Kristen was
the coach of record for 31—with another 18 being set by
swimmers within 12 months of leaving her group, demonstrating her
ability to prepare swimmers for the future. Under her guidance, the
number of 12&Us qualified for silvers, states, and JOs nearly
doubled at all levels by 2017 and 2018. The 12&Us also cracked
100 points at Y states in 2018 for the first time in 5 years.
Additionally, Kristen coached 3 swimmers to Zones within the last
12 months, and she had another swimmer win a Special Olympics
In Spring 2018, Kristen began lead coaching the
senior groups, and she is excited to work with HCY's most advanced
swimmers-- several of whom swam for her previously.
Kristen is currently an ASCA-certified Level 2
coach who takes pride in unlocking potential by fostering strong
relationships with swimmers-- she believes that caring about the
entire individual is paramount for swimmer success.
Kristen has a BA in Communication Studies from
TCNJ and an MA in Health Communication from the University of
Kentucky. In addition to coaching, she works as a Senior Medical
Writer at a pharmaceutical advertising agency. She lives in
Flemington with her husband, NJ 101.5 News Anchor Patrick Lavery,
and their dog, Archie.
Nicole V Lewis
Junior 1&2 Lead Coach
Nicole grew up locally, coming from Branchburg, NJ. When she was five, she joined the HCY Stingrays, and swam with the team for 12 years, staying through her senior year of high school. She went to Somerville HS, swimming with the team all four years, was captain of the girls team during her senior year. Nicole recently graduated from Salisbury University in Maryland where she received her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Music. She started working at HCY 8 years ago as a swim instructor and continues to teach swim lessons and lifeguard. This is her second year as an HCY Coach.
Jennifer C Fischl
Senior Assistant Coach
Jenn is originally from
Westfield area. Jenn swam competitively in the summers
throughout youth and high school at Manor Park in Westfield,
NJ. Jenn swam competitively all four year of college as well
as four years of college lacrosse at Kean University. She
graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education and
English. After college she coached at the Westfield Y for 10
years, before getting married and moving to Hunterdon County.
She has also coached high school lacrosse at Westfield,
Princeton and Mount Saint Mary Academy.She also officiates
high school and youth lacrosse.This is her 7th year with the
Hunterdon County Y.
