Head Coach; Junior 1&3 Lead Coach
Ruby was born and raised
in beautiful Salt Lake City, UT. She began swimming
competitively at age 6. She came from a “swim family”,
with all of her brothers and sisters dedicated to the sport. The
family life was dedicated to the swim team, and she spent most
of her youth on deck.
Ruby began her swimming career as a sprint
freestyler, and then progressed to compete in mid-distance
breaststroke and butterfly, taking the podium at the State
Championships at the senior level. She was nominated and named
1st team All-State and 2nd team All-American Water Polo player. She
trained with the Mountain West Zone water polo team to compete
nationally for JO title.
Ruby went on to play water polo at the
University of Utah where she also studied Art History. She spent
all of her free time hiking, running, and snowboarding in the
mountains behind her home. She also taught/coached
snowboarding throughout her college career. During her time at the
U of U, she coached the Skyline high school water polo team, taking
them to the State Championships- placing 2nd. She also coached the
Summer League Team that she had swam with every season- from ages
has stayed close to the sport, and in recent years has competed in
numerous triathlons, including a half-ironman. She is also a
student of the sport, as someone who loves to keep her nose in
books by Sweetenham, Brooks (her childhood coach), and most
recently- Coyle. She is an ASCA and USA certified coach and
continues to maintain a high level of passion and drive season
after season. Her swimmers have seen tremendous success, some going
from bronze level to JO in a single season. Needless to
say…she loves swimming
has a deep passion for the sport. She has two children currently on
the team and
is 100% committed to the teams’ success. She has deep respect
Ruby has three children ages 11, 9, and
5. Her two boys and little girl are the lights of her
life. They have a passion for life that has inspires her daily.
She and her husband Sam are both born and raised
Utahns. They moved to Hunterdon County with their three
children 5 years ago and immediately fell in love with the area.
They love to hike, bike, snowboard, and camp together as a
Senior Lead Coach, Junior 3 Assistant
Kristen grew up in Horsham, PA and started
swimming competitively at the age of 8. As a child, she swam for a
variety of teams, including all four years at Hatboro-Horsham High
School, where she was a PIAA district- and state-qualifier and
co-captain her senior year. Kristen also swam during her freshman
year of college at The College of New Jersey. Career swimming
highlights include All-American relay honors in high school and
qualifying for YMCA nationals in 2004. Kristen began her coaching
career in 2006 as an assistant coach with her old summer league
team, and she has about 7 years of piecemeal experience between
various summer leagues, YMCA, and USA teams. She is currently an
ASCA Level 2 coach.
Kristen joined the HCY coaching staff in Fall
2015 and spent most of her first 2.5 years on staff leading
the top 12&Us.
Under her guidance, the number of 12&Us qualified for silvers,
states, and JOs nearly doubled at all levels by 2017 and 2018. The
12&Us also cracked 100 points at Y states in 2018 for the first
time in 5 years. In Spring 2018, Kristen began lead coaching the
senior groups, and after a fast first season in long course, she's
looking forward to fostering the potential and leadership of HCY's
most advanced swimmers. As of August 2018, Kristen has been the
coach of record for over 45 HCY team records in just
under 3 years.
Kristen has a BA in Communication Studies from
TCNJ and an MA in Health Communication from the University of
Kentucky. In addition to coaching, she works as a Senior Medical
Writer at a pharmaceutical advertising agency. She lives in
Flemington with her husband, NJ 101.5 News Anchor Patrick Lavery,
and their dog, Archie.
Jennifer C Fischl
Junior 2 Lead Coach
Jenn is originally from
Westfield area. Jenn swam competitively in the summers
throughout youth and high school at Manor Park in Westfield,
NJ. Jenn swam competitively all four year of college as well
as four years of college lacrosse at Kean University. She
graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education and
English. After college she coached at the Westfield Y for 10
years, before getting married and moving to Hunterdon County.
She has also coached high school lacrosse at Westfield,
Princeton and Mount Saint Mary Academy.She also officiates
high school and youth lacrosse.This is her 7th year with the
Hunterdon County Y.
Lead Coach: Little Stingrays
I grew up locally in Clinton
Township, NJ, and started swimming competitively at the age of 6
for HCY. I swam for HCY for 12 years, through my senior year, where
I was a state, junior Olympic, as well as zone qualifier. In
addition, I was was a member of HCY’s National Team for 5
years. I was also a member of the North Hunterdon girls
Varsity Swim team for 4 years, where I was captain my senior year.
I have continued my swimming career at The College of New Jersey,
specializing in sprint freestyle and butterfly, where I am
currently captain and am studying Special Education and
I have previously coached with HCY
for one summer season, and I cannot express how happy I am to be
back for another great summer!
Alecia M Poppe
Junior 1&2, LS Assistant Coach
Alecia is originally from West Virginia. She began swimming
competitively in high school as a freshman. She swam varsity for
the Preston High Knights swimming all four years and was team
captain her senior year. She also swam in summer league for the
Garrett County Manta Rays in Maryland. In college, she continued
swimming for the Steven's Ducks focusing on mid-distance
events in backstroke and freestyle for two years.
Alecia graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a
B.S. in Chemical Biology in 2012. After undergrad, she attended New
England Law Boston and received her J.D. in 2015. Afterwards, her
and her husband moved to Rochester, NY, where they lived for two
years and had their son. In July 2017, they moved to Flemington,
NJ. Currently, she works as a Senior Compliance Analyst for
MetLife's U.S. Business Compliance Department.
Alecia joined the HCY coaching staff in September 2017 as an
assistant coach primarily working with the J1/2 and Little
Joe is the dryland coach for HCY swim team and a personal
trainer at the YMCA. He has a lot of experience with sport specific
training and played many sports growing up including Baseball,
football, and basketball.
