Jon returned to the Madison YMCA Mariners in October 2013 following a nine and a half year stint with the Montclair YMCA Dolphins. Previous to Montclair, Jon spent eight years as Head Coach at the Madison Area YMCA and three years at the West Essex YMCA. He was also an Assistant Coach at the Summit Y for one season. Jon has coached in the Northern NJ area for the last 25 Plus years between the Livingston Aquajets, Berkeley Heights Streamliners, Minisink Manta Rays and Morristown Beard High School. Jon is an ASCA Level 5 Swim Coach, is currently YMCA Of The USA Swim Coach Faculty and serves on the New Jersey YMCA Swim League Executive Committee. He has sat on theNew Jersey Swimming Board of Directors as both Junior and Senior Coaches Represpetative and on the USA Swimming National Communications Committee. Jon has been the Head Coach of the NJ Swimming All Star Zone Team in 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2008 and has been an assistant coach at Zones in 2000 and 2003. Jon also coached USA Swimming's Eastern Zone Select Camp in 2006. Jon has coached athletes to Olympic Trials and an alumni to the olympics.

Colin Kostyak

Colin started his coaching career at the Cromwell Commandos
in Morristown. From there, he entered the YMCA Coaching world
at the Madison Area YMCA in 2007 for 4 years. After, he moved
to the Greater Morristown YMCA where he served as the Aquatic
Associate/Assistant Coach where he grew the Sunkissed and National
Team. He became the Director of Competitive Aquatics/Head
Coach at the West Essex YMCA starting in 2018, and has increased
the size of State Qualifiers under his direct supervision.
Colin is currently a member of the American Swim Coaches
Association (Level 2), YMCA Swimming certified, and USA Swimming
Certified. He is also a founding member of the New Jersey
Swim Safe Alliance (NJSSA). In his spare time, he loves to
exercise and spend time with his wife, Lauren, and son AJ.

Kenneth J Platt

Kenny
Platt has been involved in aquatics in the state of New Jersey for
thirty plus years. Kenny got his start at the Berkeley
Heights Community Pool as a swim instructor in 1980 and spent the
next thirty years there involved in all aspects of aquatics
including competitive diving, lesson programs, and swim team.
He spent some time coaching competitive swimming at the West
Essex YMCA, Somerset Valley YMCA, and the Montclair YMCA. Kenny has also held
the position of Head Diving at Montclair State University and is
currently heading up the New Providence Diving team.
During the day Kenny
is an insurance underwriter and roots for his alma mater, Syracuse
University......Go Orange!

Thomas K Long

Thomas has been involved in the world of swimming since the age of
8 when he joined the Morris Township summer
league team. He went on to swim competitively for 4
years at Morristown High School, and another 4 years at Montclair
State University. His coaching career began at the same
place as his swimming career where he became Assistant Coach for
both Morris Township pools, Ginty and Streeter pool. Thomas
coached with Morris Township every summer from 2010 to
2019. He joined the Mariners coaching staff in 2014 and
still enjoys stepping onto the pool deck to help athletes be the
best swimmers they can be. Thomas has also lifeguarded,
taught swim lessons, and worked as Associate Aquatics Director for
MAY from 2016 to 2020. In addition to having a
passion for swimming, Thomas has a passion for filmmaking and
always enjoys a good Bruce Springsteen song!

Tom swam
competitively from age 6 through college. He swam for the
Union Elks, Union Boys Club, Cranford Comets, Seton Hall Prep and
Seton Hall University. Tom works full time underwriting surety
bonds and has served the Mariners in a volunteer coach capacity
since 2011. He has been happily married to Cathi since 1990,
and they have three children; Luke, Terence and, Claire. His
son Terence swam for the Mariners for several years.

Charlie swam competitively
from age 6-high school for Noe Pond, the Mariners and Pingry.
He has been coaching the Mariners since his oldest son, CJ joined
the team. Charlie teaches second grade in Montville, and during the
summer is the manager of the Florham Park Municipal
Pool.

Atacan Zeran

Atacan joined the Mariners
in the summer of 2020 having previously coached at the New
Providence Community Pool. Originally, he began swimming
competitively at the Summit Area YMCA for 9 years before
transitioning to Water Polo once at the University of Connecticut
where he earned a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He is
currently a Masters student at Rutgers University studying
Healthcare Administration and plays on their Water Polo
Team.
Atacan loves to do
anything with water; swimming, fishing, fish keeping (he has 6 fish
tanks and a koi pond), and water sports. He also enjoys talking
about cars with Coach Jon.

Nicole R Coxson

Nicole Coxson joined the Mariners coaching staff in 2009. She is a level 2 ASCA certified coach. Nicole swam year-round for the Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn,PA. as well as many years of summer swimming while growing up in Maryland and Pennsylvania. She has two children, the younger of which has been a Mariner swimmer since kindergarten.

David brings with him over 20 years of experience
coaching age group swimming. During that time he has worked with
swimmers of every level. A few of David’s coaching highlights
are Coaching swimmers to NJ State Swimming records, YMCA and NAG
top 16 swimmers, members on the US National Junior Team, USA
National Team members, Olympic Trial qualifiers as well as being
picked as one of two coaches (along with 2 of his swimmers of the
16 swimmers) for a High Altitude Training Camp at the Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs.
David made the decision to leave the pool deck but stay
in training. As a trainer/coach, he has been working with
individuals and groups to help people achieve their goals. Goals in
all areas. Goals from weight management to a first race (OCR, road,
trails...) to college scholarship. Everyone and every goal bring
with them a level of excitement.
David believes in the combination of hard work and
science. Looking beyond a training certification is his degree in
Biology and a minor in Fitness Specialization.
As an adult athlete David has a history of competing in
obstacle racing, road races, triathlons, open water swimming and
masters swimming (including YMCA Masters All American and Team
Champion status). After recovering from COVID in 2021 David came
back to win his age group at Spartan North American Championships.
David is also currently ranked 8th in his age group for the DEKA
Mile.
David Kessel has the desire to challenge and educate
athletes of all levels and goals.
