Coach Jason will be entering his 1st season at Countryside YMCA this fall. He comes here after spending nearly 17 years at the Northern Kentucky Clippers and 2 years at Foxjets Swim Team in Minnesota. Jason has been very fortunate to work with great swimmers, coaches and adminstrators over the years. He is looking forward to continuing the traditions that the Torpedoes have established over many great years of swimming.
Having the opportunity to work with so many great swimmers in the past, has allowed Jason to travel to numerous exciting places in the world (China, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Ireland along with many great cities in the continental USA.)
Outside the pool, Jason enjoys spending time with his lovely wife(Branden) and children (Hannah & Sam). Jason also enjoys on the cincinnati reds and cincinnati bengals...WHO DEY!!

Head Age Group Coach
Matt swam for Moeller High School, graduating in 2000, then immediately began coaching various summer league teams. Matt has coached Moeller for 8 years, helping lead the Crusaders to 4 Sectional titles in the last 5 years, 2 District runner-ups (2014, 2016), and a State runner-up in 2015, the first in school history. Matt also coached Blue Ash YMCA for 6 years, where his 13-14 year olds achieved 39 YMCA National qualifying times and broke 72 team records, 3 league records, 2 Zone records, 2 Ohio LSC records, and 1 YMCA National Age Group record. Matt was also recognized by the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati as the Age Group Coach of the Year in 2016. Matt is known for his passion for the sport of swimming and his dedication to his swimmers.
Assistant Coach Senior Group
Bob is currently assisting with the Senior group. He has been a volunteer CY coach since 1993 and is a member of the Southwest Ohio YMCA Cluster Hall of Fame. He swam and played water polo at Indiana University. He was head coach on summer swim teams in New Orleans in 1970 and 1971, Cincinnati in 1974 and 1975, and an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Marlins in 1976 and 1977. His three sons swam for CY.
Assistant Coach Gold & Blue Group
Jim swam for GlenOak High School in North Canton, Ohio in the mid-70's. He went on to swim collegiate Division I for Eastern Kentucky University and The University of Akron. Jim began coaching in 1978 as head coach of the Canton City Schools USS Swim Team. In 1981 he became the Head Coach at the North Canton YMCA, North Canton, OH for four years. While finishing his degrees at The University of Akron he became the Men's Assistant Swimming Coach there from 1982-84. Beginning in 1986 he was the Assistant Coach for Indiana (Pennsylvania) High School Boys and Girls Swim Teams for five seasons. Jim became involved with the Countryside YMCA Torpedoes as a volunteer coach in 2004. Over the years at Countryside he has coached all age groups and abilities from novice to YMCA National Champions. Since 2014 Jim has been the Assistant Coach for Little Miami High School and Junior High School Swim Teams. His wife Liz is a swimming instructor at the Countryside YMCA. He has two sons, Wally and Jack, both attending The University of Cincinnati.
Assistant Coach Gold & Blue Group
Matt was an eleven year competitive swimmer, who began swimming USS and age Group swimming at age eleven. He swam competitively in high school and in college at The Virginia Military Institute. During his collegiate years, he also became a very accomplished water polo player and was Captain of the VMI team for two seasons. This will be Matt’s 11th season with the Torpedoes. He began coaching at CY in the fall of 2006 working with the Blue Group and now enjoys coaching the Gold Group swimmers. Prior to joining the Torpedoes, he was the Head Coach of The Abington Gators in Clarks Summit, PA from 2004–2006 and as Assistant Coach from 2002–2004. While in Pennsylvania, Matt was also an Assistant Coach at The Greater Scranton YMCA for the summer programs in 2004 and 2005. Matt is a coach member of USA Swimming and is a Level Two certified Age Group Coach Member of ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association). While not at the pool, Matt is marketing and sales manager in North American Procter and Gamble Professional. He and his wife, Beth, have two sons, Chris and Jimmy.
Assistant Coach Blue Group
Matt started coaching the Blue group in September 2015. Matt has a lifetime of swimming experience and knowledge that he brings to Countryside. He swam for Cincinnati Marlins for 12 years and Oak Hills High School all four years qualifying for state his senior year. He coached at Gamble Nippert Y in the early 90's. Matt was a graduate of Ohio University where he swam all four years and currently works for US Bank. Matt has two children Hannah and Heidi that currently swim for the Torpedoes.
Assistant Coach Yellow Group
Breant began volunteering with the Yellow group in 2015.
Brent has an extensive coaching background that started in
1990. 1990-1998 Brent coached in Mt. Vernon, IN working with
6 & unders up through high school teams. 1998-1999 Brent
was the Head Coach of Tecumseh Swim Club in IN. 1999-2000 he
was the head coach for South West Indiana Aquatics in Evansville,
IN. 2005-2006 Brent was the head coach at Robinson High
School where he lead 6 swimmers to qualify for the North Carolina
State Championships. Brent's daughter Elizabeth currently
swims in the Gold group for Countryside.
Assistant Coach Silver Group
Amy began coaching Countryside in the fall of 2015 with the Silver group. She started swimming at age 7 for the Philipps Aquatic Club in Dayton. At age 10 she moved to Kettering and swam there until graduation from Alter High School. Amy was a 4 yearvarsity swimmer at Alter and a 2 time YMCA National qualifier.. Amy then went on to swim at Xavier University. She was the head coach of the Philipps Aquatic Club for 4 years. Led the team to 2 league championships. Amy has also been a swim instructor at Blue Ash Y and Countryside Y. Her two children Anna and Zach are currently swimming for the Torpedoes
Assistant Coach Bronze Group
Su has been with the CY coaching staff since 1991 and has over 45 years experience as a swim coach. Su has coached at Countryside for the past 25 years. Prior to that, she coached for the Middletown YMCA for eight years as well as for many Cincinnati and Middletown area summer swim teams. Su was also the head coach for Middletown High School varsity swim teams for 9 years.
Her competitive swimming experience includes 10 years with the Cincinnati Coca Cola AAU swim team (now-disbanded), four years with Cincinnati Oak Hills High School and four years with Miami University (captain junior and senior years). She was a NAGWS collegiate national qualifier her junior and senior years.
Her sons, Brett and Matt, were National Team swimmers for the Torpedoes. In July 2000, Su was honored as SWY Long Course Coach of the Year, and in March 2003, was inducted into the Southwest Ohio YMCA Swim League Hall of Fame.
Su has a BS and MEd from Miami University and is now retired from the Middletown City School District after 35 years of teaching physical education. She was also employed by the Cincinnati Area Chapter of the American Red Cross as a Water Safety Educator for 25 years. She is now a founding member (and board member) of Cincinnati Aquatic Training Services.
Su’s philosophy on coaching is one of keeping the “fun” in fundamentals. She also emphasizes the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
Assistant Coach Bronze Group
Amy joined the Countryside coaching staff in 2002 and works with the Bronze group. Amy began swimming competitvely at age 7 and continued through college. Locally, she swam for Fairfield YMCA, Badin High School and Rolling Hills Swim Club. She continued her swimming career at the University of Notre Dame where she was voted MVP her sophomore and senior years. Amy coached Rolling Hills from 1983-87 during which time they won several Butler County Swim League Championships. Amy has also served as the assistant coach for both Ursuline Academy and Kings High School. While coaching Ursuline, she helped lead them to Ohio High School State Championships in 2013 & 2014. Amy and her husband Jim have three children, Mandi (23), Matthew (21) and TJ (19).
Assistant Coach Bronze Group
Jocelyn started coaching with Countryside in September 2015. She is coaching with the Bronze Group. Jocelyn started swimming at age 7 and has competed for the Cincinnati Marlins and the East Central Swim Team in Indiana. Jocelyn has also coached for the Gamble Nippert YMCA as well as the East Central Swim Team. Jocelyn is currently a pre school teacher in the Kings School district
Assistant Coach - Multiple Groups
Nancy joined the Torpedoes coaching staff Fall 2017 as Assistant
Swim Coach for our Silver, Yellow and Gold teams. She
is a native to the Greater Cincinnati area and a graduate of
Central Missouri State University. With 10 years of
competitive swimming experience, Nancy began her career
swimming at the age of 8, competing in the Northern Kentucky Swim
League for the Taylor Mill “Chomps” (currently the
Taylor Mill Stingrays). She continued swimming and diving for
TMSC through high school and swam competitively with the Northern
Kentucky Piranhas (now disbanded) and Scott High School.
While in high school, Nancy also took an interest in
gymnastics and participated in cheerleading as well. Several
years after graduating, she returned to Taylor Mill Swim Club for
one summer as Head Diving Coach.
After relocating to several states as her husband Paul pursued his
career as a Captain in the USAF, Nancy and her family relocated
back to the Greater Cincinnati Area in 1999. Never losing her
love for the sport of swimming, she began working for Countryside
YMCA during the Summer of 2014 as a swim instructor, Fall of 2015
as Assistant Coach for the Y’s pre-competitive swim team and
Fall of 2017 as Assistant Coach for the Torpedoes.
Nancy’s husband Paul works at Wright Patterson Air
Force Base as an IT Project Manager. She has two sons, Paul
and Nathan. Nathan currently swims with the Gold group at
