Many of us have at least one person who was instrumental in shaping their career. My 8th grade United States History teacher was that person. Mrs. Bakita was an electrifying teacher who demanded the best from her students. She possessed the ability to look into each student, see who they could become and expect them to shine. This is when I decided to become a teacher. I soon began exploring a career in teaching by serving as an assistant swim lessons instructor at my local community pool. Eventually, I worked by way up to a lead instructor and then an assistant swim coach with my local community swim team. Upon graduating from Central Michigan University with a degree in Secondary Education, I entered the workforce as a substitute teacher and Assitant Swim Coach for the East Grand Rapids Girls Swim Team and  Head Swim Coach for the Northview High School Boys Swim Team. Soon I received my first teaching (White Pines Middle School) and coachng job for Grand Haven Boys Swim Team. I served as classroom teacher in Michigan, Virginia, and Texas for 17 years; now my classroom includes a pool.

I'm currently in my 30th year of coaching (4th with AESC). Prior to moving to Edmond, Oklahoma, I coached with the Virginia Gators, Alamo Area Aquatics Association, and Fork Union Military Academy. I have had the privilege of working with some outstanding coaches who have taught me many lessons. I have also had the pleasure of coaching hundreds of young people who have helped shape my life. Among those swimmers (and teams),  I have coached 12 High School All-Americans, two VISAA State Championships,  6 Summer Junior National qualifiers, 1 Summer Senior National qualifier, and 5 National Age Group Top 10 rankings.

I am entering my 8th year of coaching and my  4th year with American Energy Swim Club. I began my swimming career at the age of 10 in Baumholder, Germany where I competed for a local club team on the army base. I spent the next several years moving around with my family and swimming for different local swim teams. I swam my freshman year of college at Indian River Community College where I competed with the NJCAA national championship team.  From there, I moved to Georgia Southern and competed at the Division 1 level to finish my swimming career.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Institutional Management and worked with Marriott out of college as a chef.  I met my wife in Nashville and have been married for 16 years. During this time we have moved to five different states and have had three children.

We moved to Oklahoma in 2012 where my oldest daughter took an interest in swimming and began swimming with Chesapeake Swim Club. I began coaching with American Energy Swim Club in 2014.

I am the Head Age Group Coach and am looking forward to building the 12 and under group.

I have been a fitness trainer and Masters swimmer for 15 years.  I have extensive experience in programming and training, much of which focuses on younger athletes.  My favorite activity is developing swimmers, helping them gain confidence and fitness in the water while building technical mastery of all the strokes.  My main goal is provide a fun and productive workout for our Bronze and Precomp athletes.

I am from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, where I swam for SwimTulsa since 2013. During my last three years swimming there, I gave swim lessons to younger kids in a program connected to my team, teaching the fundamentals of each stroke. In the fall of 2017, I began attending Oklahoma Christian University, where I currently attend and swim under the coaching of Olympian Josh Davis on Oklahoma Christian University.

I Attended Oregon State University ’18. I majored in Sociology and minored in Business Administration. I was introduced to the sport of swimming at age 8 where I started off with a summer league program. I took swimming to the next level at the age of 10, joining the Pleasanton Seahawks in Pleasanton, California. I then committed to swimming all the way through high school earning 7 All-American honors. After high school, I earned scholarships to Indian River State College (Fort Pierce, Florida), then Florida State University, where I specialized in freestyle events (100/200/500). I completed my collegiate athletics experience in the sport of rowing, where I represented the varsity squad at Oregon State University. Since college, I have continued to compete on a national level in the sport of rowing, representing the Green Racing Project in Craftsbury, VT and the OKC High Performance Center, where I currently train. I Have roughly 2 years of experience as a Competitive swim coach. I was ten years old when I decided to take a leap of faith and enter into the swimming world and haven't looked back since. Something that I initially thought would be a fun hobby turned into a lifestyle, and I am blessed to have the opportunity to share my passion through the club that constructed it. Throughout my years of swimming, I’ve been blessed to have several amazing coaches who have helped me gain confidence not only in swimming but life outside the pool and that, more than anything, is the impact I too hope to have. I am so very blessed to be apart of the AESC family and look forward to everything this journey entails. See you at the pool!
