Head Coach Bernard Vrancken is a native of Waterloo, Belgium where he swam on the national team. He came to the US as an exchange student and became a freestyle and IM specialist. He was an All-American swimmer in the mid-distance and distance events for The Ohio State University. He graduated in 1995 with a degree in Marketing and International Business. Coach Bernard has 16 years of experience coaching high school and age group swimmers, including 10 years as Head Coach for the Worthington Swim Club. He is an ASCA Level 4 Coach. Bernard is married to Allie. They have a son named Owen.
Coach Angie Provo is a Worthington resident. She has been a coach for WOR since 2004 working primarily with the 9-10 group but has been an assistant for all groups at one time or another. Previously, she has coached for the Bengal Tiger swim club in Baton Rouge and was Head Coach for a Summer League team in New Orleans. She was a competitive swimmer from age 7 through high school, Angie brings an extensive background to our club. She is an ASCA Level 3 coach.
Coach Chris Vondran is a native of Lima, Ohio. He was the 1989 Ohio High School State Champion in the 100 breast and swam with Coach Bernard for the Ohio State Men's Swim Team from 1989 - 1991. Chris graduated from OSU in 1995 with a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture. Chris has 10 years coaching experience including volunteer assistant coach at OSU from 2000 - 2004, He is the lead coach of the Senior group. Chris is married to Tracy and has 3 children.
Coach Katie Kuryla began swimming competitively at age 7 and was a breaststroke and IM swimmer for HEAT then Hudson High School where she was a 4-year District swimmer and placed at the State Meet during her senior year. After high school, Katie attended OSU where she pursued a career in Business with a focus on Marketing. Katie has 8 years coaching experience, and is entering her 5th year coaching at Worthington Swim Club. She currently works in digital marketing & promotional planning at the Big Lots Columbus headquarters.
Coach Katie Scocozzo began swimming at age 10 in Kettering, OH, swam competitively throughout high school and still competes in triathlons. She has been working with children through adults on swimming skills and fitness for 11 years, 9 of which have been at the Worthington Pools and other swimming facilities in the Columbus area. She is a Physical Science and Chemistry teacher at Delaware Hayes High School.
Burkert was born
and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He has been coaching for six years
including; three years with the University of Toledo as a Volunteer
Assistant Coach, two years at Springfield High School as a Head
High School Coach, four with assorted club teams and spent two
summers at Stanford University working for their swim camp and
volunteering with their swim team. He is a graduate of the
University of Toledo with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and
a concentration in Sports Psychology.
