In twenty years of coaching, Coach Dane has coached six national top-sixteen swimmers; several national championship qualifiers; three internationally-ranked swimmers; a top-60 Olympic Trials finisher; and a Paralympic Trials champion. More than thirty age group LSC records and eight Senior Zone Championship records have been set by Coach Dane’s swimmers.
Coach Dane currently chairs two USA Swimming Western Zone Task Forces and is an active member of the Western Zone Diversity & Inclusion Committee. As the Pacific Northwest Swimming Chair of Diversity & Inclusion, Coach Dane leads the development and implementation of several groundbreaking initiatives for any US Olympic Committee sport that include an LGBTQ+ Show-Your-Pride Campaign, Inclusion Education Program, and Financial Barrier Removal Policy. He has also worked hard to expand female leadership opportunities and seamless inclusion of athletes with disabilities. In 2017, Coach Dane was one of twelve U.S. Delegates to the World Conference on Drowning Prevention.
Dane is a Washington native with a liberal arts degree from Hamilton College (Clinton, NY) and is currently working toward his executive certificate in Strategic Diversity & Inclusion Management from Georgetown University (Washington D.C.). In 2014, Coach Dane left the private sector in order to focus on building a more inclusive aquatics program at Metro Parks, and has since become a steward for increased participation and expansion of underrepresented communities within the sport of swimming.
Outside of swimming, Coach Dane is an active member of the Pacific Northwest Diversity Council; National Diversity Council; Culture Collective; and the Graduate Tacoma Early Learning Collaborative Network. He was an active member of the Seattle Seahawks Fan Advisory Network from 2015-2017.
