A Pacific Northwest native, Nolan is entering his 8th season as a coach, and the Orca’s continue to be is home. As an athlete he competed in High School in three Varsity Sports but only swam competitively at the club level as his High School did not have a swim team. Following High School he attended the University of Washington, Go Dawgs!
After joining the Orca’s, first as an Assistant Coach to Leanne Thompson, Nolan has since taken over the role as Head Coach and not only grown the staff but the size of the team as well. The Orca’s now boast a caching staff of 7 and over 120 athletes between 6 and 18.
Outside the Y, Nolan is the Head Varsity Coach of the Meadowdale High School Girls Swim Team and the Head Varsity Coach of the Edmonds-Woodway/Mountlake Terrace combined boys swim team. Over the years he has coached 2 Olympic Trials Qualifiers, 7 Junior Nationals qualifiers, 2 Nationals Qualifiers, 55 Regionals Qualifiers, 3 Girls High School State Champions, 18 Girls State Qualifiers, 11 Boys State Qualifiers and 14 NAG Qualifiers. Setting new school records at 4 High Schools in 11 events in both Boys and Girls swim. He intends to become a Calculus teacher in the coming months.
Nolan enjoys hiking and any activity that involves his black lab, fishing, gardening, sailing and surfing. He is an avid UW basketball fan and can frequently be found at their games during basketball season.
Shae Grant- Assistant Swim Team Coach
Shae has been coaching the DTFY swim team for a year now! She spent her summer working with the 9-10 age group with the Yost Penguins and is excited to be back to coach the Orcas through yet another exciting season. Shae grew up swimming competitively, including spending 5 years on our very own DTFY team! She then went on to swim for Edmonds-Woodway High School, lettering all four years and taking part in District and State meets. Currently, Shae is spending the year finishing up her A.A. at Edmonds Community College with a focus on Social Sciences and English. She's so thrilled to continue coaching the team, and is looking forward to an incredible season!
As a swimmer-turned-coach, Michael has been in and around the aquatic scene in Washington for almost two decades. After swimming for Cascade Swim Club, he then went on letter all four years and captain his high school swim team at Edmonds-Woodway. He then turned his attention towards teaching and coaching while working in Lynnwood for the past 7 years. This past winter he came back to his alma mater, this time as an assistant coach under Nolan. He is very excited to work with him again as an Orca along with Shae!

Dominic has been swimming competitively for the last 12 years for various teams including Cascade Swim Club, Innis Arden Swim Club, and Shorewood High School. He is super excited to bring both enthusiasm and swimming knowledge to the Yost Swim Team!
