Coach Gabe was born in Mexico City and moved to the United States in 1995 with his wife and two cats. He has 19 years of experience coaching at different levels, from age group to seniors.
Gabe decided to become a coach to inspire swimmers to achieve their dreams and make a positive difference in someone's life. He has coached swimmers that have qualified for Junior National Qualifiers, Sectionals, Age Group Zones, and High School State Champions. He has also coached and developed swimmers with Top 16 reportable times. In keeping up with all swimming related issues, Coach Gabe has been member of the American Coaches Association (ASCA).And has participated in various clinics such as ASCA World Clinics, Olympic Training Center and International Swim Clinics.
In Mexico, Coach Gabe was the Head Coach of Master Swim Team and coached Masters National Champions. This team placed second at Nationals. Coach Gabe specializes in developing fundamentals, and maximizing the growth of all his swimmers' knowledge, ability and goal direction.
Kevin grew up a part of the swimming community in Northern Virginia and has never strayed too far away. He began his swimming career in the NVSL at the age of seven, competing for Freedom Park and Vienna Woods. During his NVSL swimming career, Kevin was a part of a relay team that set an NVSL record that stood for ten years. He also swam for the James Madison High School swim team, while also competing in Potomac Valley.
Kevin continued his swimming career at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA. He was two time all-conference award winner and captain of the team his senior year. In 1992, Kevin was the conference champion in the 1650 freestyle and was a conference finalist eight more times in various events during his college career. Kevin graduated in 1994 with a B.A. in Political Science. Kevin also has a M.S. in Education from Old Dominion University, where he also served as the assistant swim coach in the 1996-1997 season.
Kevin began coaching in the summer of 1991 and has had the opportunity to coach at every possible level since then. Kevin has coached with the Potomac Marlins since the fall of 2001. Kevin has served as an assistant coach for two Potomac Valley Zone teams and in the summer of 2003, Kevin was selected as the Assistant head coach for the team that traveled to the Eastern Zone Long Course Championships. Kevin was the head coach of the Paul VI High School swim team from 2003-2007. During his tenure as head coach, the PVI men won the independent school state championships in 2006, with Kevin being named “Men’s Independent Coach of the Year” for Virginia. Both the men and the women were nationally ranked in 2006.
Kevin is a Level 3 coach with the American Swim Coaches Association. His swimmers have qualified for many different championship meets, including PVS championship meets, Eastern Zone Sectional meets, USA Futures, USA Summer Junior Nationals, and USA Winter Nationals. In 2013, Kevin accompanied one of his swimmers to the US Olympc Training Center for the USA Swimming Diversity Select Camp.
In addition to his coaching and parenting duties, Kevin currently teaches Social Studies at Riverside High School in Leesburg
Emily Menard grew up in Reston, VA. She graduated from South Lakes High School in 2000. She went onto study and receive a degree in Physical Education/Health at Salisbury University, and then she studied at WVU and received a Master in Athletic Coaching Education. Emily coached with Herndon Aquatic Club as the head age group coach for the last 13 years. She is very excited to be starting a new season with Blue Waves. Emily has coached 10 PVS Zone trips, 6 of which were won by the PVS Zone Championship Team. She has served on the PVS board of directors as the coaches representative. She married Steve Menard, who also coaches in PVS for Arlington Aquatics, in January of 2012. They have three boys who love to help them coach and keep them very busy off the deck.
