Head Coach, National Team & Senior Coach
John’s hometown is Sylvan, Lake Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. While at Michigan State University, he swam on the Varsity Swim Team for four years and earned a Varsity Letter.
John started Coaching in 1968 and has been coaching for over 49 years. He coached 8 Olympic Trial Qualifiers, 31 USA Swimming Senior National Qualifiers, and over 60 USA Swimming Junior National Qualifiers.
John spent most of his career serving for USA Swimming. While serving, he was elected to two terms of the American Swimming Coaches Association Board of Directors. He also served on the National Committees and oversee the National Time Standards, Senior Swimming, National Championship Meet Evaluation, and Olympic International Development. As one of the USA Swimming National Team Manager, a network of volunteers who are committed to providing quality logistical support to National Team and National Junior Team athletes on International team trips and camps, he traveled to the Goodwill Games-Seattle, Junior Team-Paris, and Speedo Cup-Holland.
Adding to John’s list of accolades, he wrote the USA Swimming Warm Up Guidelines and Procedures and is a 5 Time Speaker at American Swimming Coaches Association World Clinic.
