John Mason

Head Coach, National Team & Senior Coach

John’s hometown is Sylvan, Lake Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. While at Michigan State University, he swam on the Varsity Swim Team for four years and earned a Varsity Letter.

John started Coaching in 1968 and has been coaching for over 49 years. He coached 8 Olympic Trial Qualifiers, 31 USA Swimming Senior National Qualifiers, and over 60 USA Swimming Junior National Qualifiers.

John spent most of his career serving for USA Swimming. While serving, he was elected to two terms of the American Swimming Coaches Association Board of Directors. He also served on the National Committees and oversee the National Time Standards, Senior Swimming, National Championship Meet Evaluation, and Olympic International Development. As one of the USA Swimming National Team Manager, a network of volunteers who are committed to providing quality logistical support to National Team and National Junior Team athletes on International team trips and camps, he traveled to the Goodwill Games-Seattle, Junior Team-Paris, and Speedo Cup-Holland.

Adding to John’s list of accolades, he wrote the USA Swimming Warm Up Guidelines and Procedures and is a 5 Time Speaker at American Swimming Coaches Association World Clinic.

Michelle Davis

Head Age Group I/II Coach

Born in Jamaica West Indies and raised in Queens, NY, Michelle swam recreationally in her childhood years.  Although not a competitive swimmer, she did compete in Track and Field at Delaware State University and in her sophomore year, captured the cross country MEAC conference, as a top ten finisher.  

Her career as a swim instructor and coach started with teaching swim lessons, for Swim America in 2010 and within the same year started as an Age Group Coach under the mentorship of John Mason.  She has been coaching Age Group swimmers for the past six years, for Central Chesapeake and summer league for Pointer Ridge Swim Club.  In 2011, she also served as an assistant coach for Kingfish Swim Club.

Michelle is a registered nurse by profession and has a Master’s of Science degree in nursing education.  She employs all her skill sets from all aspects of her life when coaching her Age Group swimmers.
