Coach Robyn , Head Coach
Hello, my name is Robyn Dryer, and I am so excited to coach this year for the Southern Village Stingrays! Even though I have been a swim coach for many years, this will be my first summer as a part of the Chapel Hill swim league, and I am so excited to get started!
I am originally from the DC/Northern Virginia area and started swimming with my summer league, Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL), at age 5. I swam with Nation’s Capital Swim Club all the way through high school where I specialized in freestyle and backstroke. I knew I wanted to swim in college so that was definitely a big part of my college search. My senior year of high school, I fell in love with the Chapel Hill area, and I committed to swim for UNC’s varsity swim team. I swam under Rich DeSelm for the past four years (2015-2019), representing UNC on a variety of levels. I was primarily a distance swimmer at UNC (200, 500, 1000, 1650 free) but also swam backstroke and butterfly throughout my time at Carolina. I am a Phillips 66 Senior National qualifier in the 800 and 1500-meter freestyle and represented UNC in the ACC conference championships. I spent my senior year as a captain for the women’s team and was so grateful for the opportunity to lead such an amazing group of ladies. I finished my official swimming career in February, but I will never truly be out of the water!
I coached for my summer league team from age 15 all the way to last year, and I love working with kids in a variety of ages. In May, I will be graduating from UNC with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Neuroscience and will be attending the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in August to obtain my Doctorate in Pharmacy. When I’m not swimming I love to play other sports such as soccer or volleyball or just hang out with my friends! I am so excited that I can get even more involved in swimming and the Chapel Hill community, and I look forward to meeting you all in a couple weeks!
