Coaching Staff

Matthew J Haven

Head Coach

Lead Coach - 13/14s & 15/18s

Matt Haven has been coaching for six seasons, and is incredibly excited to be starting another season with the Blue Marlins! He swam for the Blue Marlins as a Junior and Senior in High School, then after graduating joined the coaching staff to help our young swimmers achieve their goals in the sport!

Matt grew up in Rancho Cordova, where he attended Cordova High School and was introduced to swimming by a teacher in order to have better success in a military career. After joining the team, Matt quickly moved beyond the goal of simply learning to swim efficiently and became a high school sections qualifier and gold medalist at championship meets, specializing in the 100 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle! He believes very strongly in teaching athletes about the technical aspects of the sport, so they can think of new and unique ways to grow their own success in the sport.

Outside of coaching, Matt enjoys off-roading and going to the race track! Matt is privileged to have worked with phenomenal athletes of all types, and is excited to help all of our athletes achieve their goals in and out of the water during the 2021 season! GO MARLINS!!!

Brenda O'Connor

Assistant Coach

Lead Coach - 9/10s

I grew up swimming at the Cordova Pool with my family. I joined my older siblings on the Marlins when I was 4, and competed for the following 15 years. When I was 11, I started swimming in Folsom, then Carmichael, in fall swim programs in order to stay in the pool longer, but still remained a Marlin in the summer time. I swam at St. Francis High School for 4 years, before swimming at CSU East Bay, where I qualified for nationals. I transferred to Saint Martin’s University in 2010 and graduated in May 2014.  I worked as a swimmer coach  my final two years on the team, and this is my sixth year as an assistant coach. I have been fortunate to be able to work with all age levels because of dry-land workouts and running days. In the pool, I have coached the 6-under through 11-12 age groups. Go Marlins!

Catherine Cocker

Assistant Coach

Lead Coach - 6&U

This is my first year coaching for Cordova Blue Marlins and I'm excited to join such a great team! I love working with all age groups and enjoy seeing all kinds of improvement. My main focus is making sure that each of the swimmers has a great time, makes friends, and works on improving their swimming skills.

I've been swimming competitively for 12 years and started when I was 5 years old with Cordova Blue Marlins, moved to Gold River Stingrays when I was 7, and then switched back to the Marlins when I was 16. I've completed three years of swimming for Cordova High School and plan on continuing swimming with them for my Senior year as well. During my time swimming with them I've won various awards including 'All League' for 2021 in the 50 Freestyle, 50 Breststroke, and 50 Backstroke.

I'm very excited to be working for Cordova Blue Marlins and can't wait to see all of our swimmers have a great season and see improvement this year!

Go Blue Marlins!

Lead Coach - 7/8s

Anelise Twining

Assistant Coach

Lead Coach - 11/12s

This is Coach Ana's first season coaching with Cordova Blue Marlins and she couldn't be more excited to be apart of every swimmer's journey. She has been swimming competitively for 11 years now, starting at two different recreational teams; the Dixon Dolphins and the Gold River Stingrays. She transitioned to swimming with Dart Sacramento's year round program her freshman year while swimming high school at St. Francis Highschool. Ana is currently swimming with STAS and is planning on swimming at Sierra College this upcoming season.
Throughout high school, her best events were 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyle with the occasional 100 butterfly. She finaled and placed at Bill Rose Classic Junior Olympics and Western Zone Senior Championships, and was a high school sections and Husky qualifier.
She has three younger siblings currently swimming for Cordova Marlins and is familiarized with working with kids of all age ranges. She has always looked forward to sharing her first hand perspective from the swimmers view and using it to inspire and help others both mentally and physically with stroke technique. Ana can't wait to get the season going with best times, team spirit and big improvements!
Go Marlins!
