My name is David Cocker and I've been a swimmer for 13 years now. I first started swimming when I was six years old at the Marlins and since then have swam both recreationally and competitively for Spare Time Aquatics, a year-round team. I am currently swimming for American River College and have just finished my first season of collegiate swimming. Now I'm getting back to my roots and I look forward to working with all the Marlins and having a great time!
My name is Ethan Porter and I have been a proud member of the Marlin family for all of my years of swimming. I started swimming about seven years ago and have been very proud of my accomplishments as a swimmer over the years. My favorite stroke is backstroke and I hold most the records for the 15-18 boys on the team. I hope to inspire the kids to do their best, but most importantly have a great time as they grow closer bonds with not just their teammates but their Marlin family. I am very excited to give back everything I have learned to all the swimmers on the team while everyone is having a great summer together.
My name is Priscilla Portillo and I swam for the Cordova Blue Marlins for 10 years. My first job was for CRPD as a lifeguard and swim lesson instructor, which I continued for 3 years. I then attended UC Davis, and while there I participated in their swim club and continued to swim recreationally. The pool and this community have always been such a big part of my life and I am so excited to be returning to the Blue Marlin & CRPD family, this time as an assistant coach.
My name is Matt Haven and I've swam for the Blue Marlins and the Cordova High School team over the seasons of my Junior and Senior year in High School and fell in love with the teams and the sport! My main events are the 100yd Butterfly and the 200yd Freestyle, and my personal favorites were those two individual events and the Medley Relay! After graduating high school and from the Marlins team I was happy with what I had accomplished in the sport as an athlete, but wanted to continue to be involved and help out in different ways, thus I joined the Marlins coaching staff this season for 2019 and am super excited to help all of our Marlins achieve their goals in the water, make great friendships and memories, and most importantly, have a great summer!
I first started swimming at Cordova Community Pool doing mommy/daddy and me swim lessons as an infant and continued until age 6 when my younger sister (Coach Brenda) and I joined our older sibling on the Cordova Blue Marlins, I swam with the Marlins as long as I could until age 18. During this time I ventured out into other Aquatic based activities. In 2001 I began playing club water polo for the American River Water Polo Club until 2008. During High School at Christian Brother I played water polo and swam varsity for four years. I began working for Cordova Parks and Recreation District in 2005 as a lifeguard and the next year began teaching swim lessons as well. In 2007 I spent my last two seasons as a swimmer/Coach(assistant) for the Blue Marlins. After finishing my Blue Marlin career I stayed on as a assistant coach until the summer of 2013 when I took over head coaching duties. I look forward to a great summer with the Marlins and your families.
I grew up swimming at the Cordova Pool with my family. I joined my older siblings on the Marlins when I was 4, and competed for the following 15 years. When I was 11, I started swimming in Folsom, then Carmichael, in fall swim programs in order to stay in the pool longer, but still remained a Marlin in the summer time. I swam at St. Francis High School for 4 years, before swimming at CSU East Bay, where I qualified for nationals. I transferred to Saint Martin’s University in 2010 and graduated in May 2014. I worked as a swimmer coach my final two years on the team, and this is my sixth year as an assistant coach. I have been fortunate to be able to work with all age levels because of dry-land workouts and running days. In the pool, I have coached the 6-under through 11-12 age groups. Go Marlins!
