2018 LMYA Dolphins' Coaching Staff
Corey Dolley, Head Coach
Coach Corey is returning for his 2nd season as the LMYA Dolphins head coach!
Prior to joining the LMYA coaching staff, Coach Corey was the head coach at Sycamore Stingrays for 3 years. Coach Corey has been coaching rec swimmers (ages 4-18) for years and brings a coaching philosophy of Character, Camaraderie and Commitment to LMYA, which he believes ultimately leads to faster swimming. He works to instill open-mindedness to the learning process for the growth of each and every swimmer at all ages and levels.
Coach Corey’s background includes over 20 years of coaching and professional sports marketing and management. He was the Head Varsity Coach for De La Salle High School Water Polo (Concord), San Ramon Valley Varsity Water Polo (Danville), El Dorado High School Swimming and Water Polo (Placentia), and assistant coach for San Ramon Valley High School Swimming (Danville), Northwood High School Water Polo (Irvine), Huntington Beach High School Water Polo (Huntington Beach), Marina High School Swimming and Water Polo (Huntington Beach), and Edison High School Swimming and Water Polo (Huntington Beach), and Long Beach Wilson Swimming and Water Polo (Long Beach). Coach Corey also coached Aquinas College Swimming and Water Polo in Perth Australia.
Kira McDonough, Assistant Head Coach
Coach Kira is entering her 2nd season as the Assistant Head Coach and will also be overseeing the Jr Coach Program at LMYA. She is currently completing her Master’s degree in Education while working as a Special Education teacher (mild/moderate) for the Mt Diablo School District. Prior to joining the LMYA Coaching staff, she was the Head Coach at Swimarin Sharks (2 yrs) and Head Coach for Alhambra High School’s swim team (4 yrs). Her 20+ years of coaching experience includes Summer Rec (primarily as Head or Asst Head Coach), High School (including 8 yrs as Head Coach and twice being recognized by San Ramon City Council for coaching excellence), and US (working with 4 different group levels at Concord Terrapins including solely running a stroke & turn clinic w/ TERA).
As a swimmer, her accomplishments in br, fly, and IM include high school- 4 yrs varsity, NCS finalist, All-American; College- Conference and State champion, All-American; US swimming- State and National record holder, National ranking (several events), nearly qualifying for Olympic Trials; and Master’s- 3 time national champion.
She worked with Coach Corey for 2 years with San Ramon Valley High School’s swim team and has enjoyed doing so again, focusing on their shared philosophy of Character, Camaraderie, and Commitment.
Monica McNamara, Assistant Coach
Coach Monica is entering her 3rd year as an Assistant Coach with the LMYA Dolphins! She recently graduated from Washington State University with a major in Sport Management and minors in Communication and Human Development. Monica joined her first swim team, the Alameda Islanders at age 4 and at 11 years old, transferred teams where she swam for the Crow Canyon Sharks for 9 years.
Monica was previously an Assistant Coach with the Crow Canyon Sea Lions and her passion for swimming lead her to walk on the Women’s Swim Team, Women’s Crew Team and Women’s Waterpolo Team at WSU. As a competitive swimmer, Monica swam distance freestyle (200, 500, 1000, & 1650) and distance butterfly (200). Last year Monica developed the current structure for the Gutter Guppy program and is excited to continue to coach the program. Her love for sports has lead her to contribute in collegiate Event Management/Operations and looks forward to a fun season!
Weston Carpenter, Assistant Coach
Coach Weston is entering his 2nd season as an LMYA Assistant Coach. He just finished his junior year at Kenyon College. He is double majoring in Mathematics and Music while swimming for the Kenyon Lords, who earned second place at DIII NCAA Championships in 2016-17. Weston has been an avid swimmer since he was eight - swimming for LMYA before he joined Terrapins Swim Team at the age of 14. He continued his swimming career at Acalanes High School, where he swam Varsity and at NCS for all four years. This past swimming season he was a DIII NCAA championships finalist in multiple events. Weston is excited to share ideas at the forefront of the swimming world that he has gained from his experience in the sport. He has given private swim lessons to many kids ranging from elementary to high school, and has had two years of experience as a junior coach for LMYA. Weston hopes that he can help give the LMYA Dolphins the same passion for swimming that the team gave him!
Melissa Elliott, Assistant Coach
As senior members of the LMYA Dolphins swim team, our junior coaches help the younger members of our team and gutter guppies in the water during practices.
