Head Coach

I am thankful and excited for the opportunity to be the head coach of our Venetian Poolsharks this Summer 2020.  Swimming has been an integral part of my life, from growing up swimming in the glacier formed Fingerlakes of Ithaca, NY, to being a captain at the University of Georgia, to today coaching my own children Isaiah (11), Naomi (6) and Olivia (10 months and future swimmer).

I am excited to be returning for my 7th season with the Venetian Poolsharks! I grew up in Key West, FL, swimming year round because when you're a kid on a tiny island, there really isn't all that much to do. Water babies unite! Through the awesome community that I met while swimming in college at Agnes Scott as a ferocious and totally nautical Fighting Scottish Terrier, I began teaching lessons with Scottie Swim, DAQ, and Venetian. I enjoy teaching swimming to children and adults, and I truly believe that it is the ONLY extra curricular activity that will ever save a life.  My favorite swimming race is the 100 backstroke. When not at the pool, I am very busy with my own children- Norah, 9 and Lucien, 6 and about a million other things that would just bore everyone to read, so just ask mer! I love making new friends! I can't wait to see how far each swimmer grows this summer- from the littlest Starfish to the fastest senior Poolsharks!

My name is Mary Katherine but most of the kids call me Coach MK.  I just finished my first year at Oglethorpe College in Atlanta. When I’m not swimming I’m reading a book by the pool or getting involved in other sports like lacrosse and volleyball at my school.   My favorite swimming race is the 100 free. This will be my 15th year as a pool shark. In addition I’ve been a coach in some capacity at this pool for 7 years and I love to see the kids that I coach improving each week. I can’t wait to have an awesome season with all the new and returning swimmers! Go Poolsharks!

I used to swim year round at Dynamo Swim Club but now I play water polo for Lakeside and swim for my high school team.  My favorite swim race is the 100 fly and my favorite swim team memory is watching the final relays of the night at meets. William Magruder Harrast

assistant coach

My name is Will Harrast and I am a rising junior at Marist high school. I have been a pool shark my whole life. Before I was one year old, I had been in the pool here at Venetian. This would then lead to me joining the starfish at age three. Since I learned how to swim, I have been making my way up the ranks on the swim team and I have been in every age group on this team.  There has never been a time in my life that I can remember not knowing how to swim. It has been a huge part of my life and I love coming back here every summer to see my friends. This is my first year as an actual coach. The last couple years I loved to help out around the pool before and after practices. After school I love to play soccer and during the winter I am a diver. All of my siblings have swum here at Venetian. I am the first one to coach and hope to teach others all that I have learned over the years.
