Tyler Lee Hammond



Head Swimming and Diving Coach/Aquatics Director

Tyler begins his 10th  year at Millard South teaching Aquatics and as Head Coach of the Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving team.  Coach Hammond began his swimming career at the age of six with the Millard Aquatic Club under the coaching of David Lammel.  In Tyler's 16 years of swimming for MAC the club has grown from 30 swimmers in 1987 to now 200+. 
Coach Hammond was a graduate of Millard South High School (Class of 1999) during his time at South Tyler was coached by Rob Wennstedt.  At Millard South Tyler accumulated 9 Top-6 State Finishes, MSHS All-Time Top-10 Times in 7 events, was a 2-Time state champion, and a former school record holder.  After High School Tyler attended The University of Northern Iowa where he was a three year letterman and 2x Team captain of the University of Northern Iowa Panther's Men's Swimming and Diving Team.  At UNI Tyler accumulated 13 Top-12 Missouri Valley Conference finishes, was a school record holder in the 200 Yard Backstroke (1:54.65) and found a place in the UNI All-Time Top-5 Top Times List in 4 events.  Tyler graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science with a Teaching Endorsement (K-12) and a Minor in Coaching. 
       Throughout his swimming and coaching career Tyler has worked with all age groups from lesson programs to the collegiate level.  Tyler got his start coaching as an assistant age-group/senior coach for the Cedar Falls Swim Club (Now BLAST) in Cedar Falls, IA as well as the Head Masters Coach for the Panther Masters Swimming program.  After his tenure with the CFSC/BLAST he became the Head Coach for Waverly Area Swim Club, in Waverly, IA., and also had a 2 year stint as the Assistant Women's swim coach for the University of Northern Iowa Swimming and Diving Team before moving back to Omaha to pursue his interest in teaching and coaching at Millard South as well as with Millard Aquatic Club.
As a coach at Millard South Coach Hammond's boys and girls programs have been successful in and out of the pool.  His girls team has finished in the Top-10 5 of the last 10 years and his boys team has finished in the Top-5 6 of his last 10 years.  Coach Hammond's Boys programs were State Runner-Up in 2011 and 2013 and have been Metro Conference Runner-Up the last 5 years in a row earning Coach Hammond Metro Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2011 and 2012.  Coach Hammond's boys and girls programs have been nationally ranked in the Top-50 for public schools the last 7 years with our boys programs achieving Top-25 rankings the last 5 years 12th in the country in 2013.  
Coach Hammond's athletes have earned individual state championships, All-American Rankings (Top-100 in the country), and school/pool/metro/state record breaking times.  But what Coach Hammond is most proud of is that he has had 19 Academic All-American swimmers and over 50 Metro Academic All-Conference honors.  
Tyler and his wife Jenna have been married for 5 years and have 2 swimmers of their own, Lucy (3 Years Old) and Myles (2 Months Old).  In his free time (yes Coach Hammond has some free time) he enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife and family and working on his never ending "To Do" list around the house.

Tara O'Shea


Head Junior Varsity Swim Coach/Assistant Varsity

This is Tara’s second year as an assistant coach at Millard South.  Tara is a graduate of Millard South and University of Nebraska at Kearney.  She swam competitively for eleven years and has been a head coach for ten years, five of which were at Millard North High School.  Some of her achievements as a head coach included Lake County (Florida) Coach of the Year 5 years in a row and the Girls Omaha Metropolitan Coach of the Year in 2012.  Tara’s favorite part of being a coach is watching athlete’s progress, grow, and lead inside and outside the pool. 


 Tara spends her time teaching Social Studies at Millard North, volunteering at church, with her husband of thirteen years, and their two children Liam and Luke.  Liam is a Rookie with MAC and Luke thinks it is great fun to get Mama soaked while giving him a bath.

Becky Sedlacek


Head Diving Coach

Becky is married to her husband Dan.  She has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and after teaching fifth and sixth grade for the past six years, Becky has been blessed with the opportunity to say home with her new baby girl, Charlie.  

Coach Becky has fifteen plus years of diving and coaching experience on the state, regional, and national level and this year will mark Becky’s fifth year as the head diving coach at Millard South.  Becky is looking forward to another great year with her divers and lots of State qualifiers.
