Mehrad began his coaching career in 1997 working as an assistant coach with the Marin Pirates age-group program in Kentfield, California. In 1998 he became the Head Coach of the Strawberry Seals. He continued with the Seals until 2004 when he left coaching to pursue other interests. In 2010 he returned to coaching joining the Marin Pirates as an assistant to the Senior Program Head Coach until 2012. During this time with the Pirates he had the fortune of coaching and learning from many National level swimmers. In 2011, he also began working with the Seals again with a focus on the youth swimming program. In 2013 resumed the role as head coach of the program.
Mehrad believes age-group swimming programs are the foundation of swimming excellence in the United States of America and is passionate about promoting swimming as a means to develop confident, healthy, fit, and happy children. He is advocate of the philosophy that the “quality” of work rather than the “quantity” of work at practice is the best approach to produce excellent swimmers while maintaining healthy injury-free bodies.
Mehrad is a member coach of USA Swimming and the American Swimming Coaches Association. In 2001 he was name the Marin Swim League Coach of the Year. He holds a B.A. in History from San Francisco State University achieving a Distinguished Scholar Award within his department.
