Head Coach:

Coach, Educator, Administrator for YMCA’s since 1957. Coach Jim has a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from the YMCA college, George Williams College, plus masters work at Michigan State University in health sciences. Coach Jim has taught and coached swimming, gymnastics, volleyball and judo throughout his 62 year career, mentoring thousands of students to achieve skills, up to national championship level in those fields. Jim worked professionally for the YMCA for 41 years and part time in retirement as SVFY Swim Coach.

Coach Jim is in his 20th year at the Skagit Valley Family YMCA as Head Swim Coach. His never ending goal is to pass on skills and attitudes that will reflect the YMCA’s basic values of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility to the swim team members.

Assistant Coach:

Coach Keegan McAdams worked his way up from a young Chinooks swimmer to the position of Assistant Coach.  Keegan has grown up in the Y and now holds a full time position at another Y, but still coaches with our Chinooks team.

Assistant Coach/USA Swimming Coach:

Carol Mochkatel has come to the team with many years of competitive swim coaching.  Carol got started in Mission Viejo, CA at the Mission Viejo Nadadores.  While in Mission Viejo for 15 + years, Carol had the opportunity to work with, learn and mentor from the top swim coaches in the country. She had the opportunity to work with the Polish Federation and the IOC bringing foreign athletes to Mission Viejo to train with there for the Olympic games. Carol also worked with former East German Olympians, coaches and swimmers out of Magdeburg and Potsdam training centers.  Carol and her husband moved to Camano Island in 2000, where she briefly coached a team in Marysville, but by 2003 had started her own USA Swim team called the Steelhead Swim team.   The Team dissolved in 2008 when Stanwood lost their one and only pool.   Carol then started working at Riverside Health Club where she had been a member since 2003 for my own workout.  Carol is a registered coach with credentials with USA Swimming.   She specializes in the technical and scientific side of swimming and how the body moves through the water.
