Kristen Misencik

Head Coach

Kristen Misencik has been involved with competitive swimming throughout her life; starting right here in Lake Ridge at age seven.  After that first season of summer swim, she was hooked and started to swim year-round.  Her military family moved to Mission Viejo , California where she swam for the national champion Nadadores; after that it was on to swimming for DePauw University in Indiana, earning varsity letters all 4 years, and team captain her senior year. After college, she returned back to Lake Ridge and joined the Northern VA Masters Swim Team and began coaching.

She first got into competitive coaching during her high school and college summers as a swimmer coach (in addition to life guarding, teaching swim lessons, and managing/supervising pools).  Shortly after college, she became the Assistant Coach for the Woodbridge Senior High School Swim Team for four years, and an Age Group Coach for OCCS Swimming.

Kristen took a break from coaching and started her family; once her two sons were old enough to join a swim team, she decided to return to coaching.  In 2006, she became the Head Coach for the Lake Ridge Lancers and has served in that capacity for the past four summers.  Her sons, Kyle (11) and Tyler (9), are enthusiastic Lancer Swim Team members.  In addition to serving as the Lancer Head Coach, Kristen has also been a Swim Kids Swim Team Coach and an OCCS Age Group Coach.

Coach Kristen’s experience working with children goes much beyond coaching.  She has worked with Prince William County 's youth in the school system and in athletics, holding both teaching and administrative positions.  Since 1991, she worked at five different PWC schools.  She served as a classroom teacher for grades K-3, an Elementary Assistant Principal, a P.E./Health teacher for grades 1-8, and an Intramural Sports Coordinator.

Kristen’s coaching philosophy:  “I believe my job is not only to teach swimmers how to swim and improve, but also to promote important character building skills; such as goal setting, sportsmanship, teamwork, and team unity.”  She also believes the summer swim experience should have a balance between improving stroke technique, working hard to achieve the team/individual goals, and taking time to build friendships and have fun!
