Kendra Kalvin: Head Coach

[email protected]

Hi, everyone! My name is Kendra Kalvin and I am very excited to begin my tenth year coaching with the Stingrays. This summer I will be returning to the Stingrays as the Head Coach for my fifth summer. This team means a lot to me and has always been a huge part of my life!

To share a little about myself, I am in my third year of teaching after having graduated from UW-Eau Claire in May 2018. I am teaching first grade and absolutely loving it! Outside of school I enjoy reading and spending time with friends and family at our cabin.

I am so excited that we are able to swim this year! Please feel free to email, call or meet with me as I am more than happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns.

Halley Johnson: Assistant Coach, 15-18 Age Group Coach

[email protected]

Hello Stingrays! I am glad to be back for my fourth summer, as the Stingrays 15-18 age group coach! Coaching for the Stingrays has been an honor and I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to continue to instill the values the Stingrays have always represented.

Over the last decade I have spent my time coaching both College and High School teams as well as club and rec swimmers. I have enjoyed my time with all the teams or individuals I have coached, they have all taught me valuable lessons for life. What is so incredibly special about this team is the family bond that has been built within a great community. I have been a Stingray since I was 3, spending every summer deep in the Stingray way of life. Coming back, a decade later, to feel like I was coming home, like no time had passed, there’s no better feeling. So, needless to say, there is no place I would rather be at 5:30 in the morning then at the pool, ready to convince your teenager that getting into a lukewarm pool is way better than their warm cozy bed.

I am here for your swimmers, to make this their best experience. I believe communication is key, so please let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email, phone or with a heads up, stopping by after a practice. I am looking forward to a great summer, full of hard-work, dedication & fun! Go Sting!

Jacob Aegerter: Assistant Coach, 13-14 Age Group Coach

[email protected]

Hello! My name is Jacob Aegerter and this will be my fifth year as the 13-14 age group coach. I have been on the Stingrays ever since I was 6 and each year has been a blast can’t wait for this one. I recently graduated from UW-Stevens Point where I studied Chemical Engineering and swam for the team at UWSP as well. I love dogs, ice cream, and spending time with family and friends. Go Sting!

Justin Pernitz:  Assistant Coach, 11-12 Age Group Coach

[email protected]
I grew up in Cross Plains and swimming has been an integral element of my life ever since I took my first laps with the Stingrays at 9 years old. I continued to swim with the Stingrays, then the Middleton High School team, and then at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. I began coaching in 2003, providing swim classes and coaching for local age-group triathletes and students, started a triathlon-101 class through the university, and coached the Stingrays in the summer. Over the next 3 years, I served as an assistant coach for the Stingrays before serving as head coach for the next 5. In 2010, my wife and I learned we were expecting our first child and I made the difficult decision to retire from coaching the Stingrays. I continued coaching the Middleton Masters team, taught group and private swim lessons, and owned several businesses in Middleton. I sold my businesses in 2018 to develop my career in financial planning supporting other business owners and parents, and to have more autonomy to spend time with my family.

My family and I enjoy camping, hiking, playing at the lake, and being outdoors whenever possible. I love to trail run and am currently training for several races locally and out west later this summer. Although I love to swim, I have found I love coaching even more, and teaching the sport is one of my favorite things to do.

Since I began coaching, I have been blessed to coach thousands of athletes, as young as a few months, to those in their nineties. This year I am privileged to be able to serve as the 11-12 age group coach. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and support the team and community that has given me so much and look forward to an incredible season with the Stingrays!

Forrest Peterson:  Assistant Coach, 9-10 Age Group Coach

Hi, I’m Forrest Peterson, a Freshman at Calvin University, and I am excited to be a part of this year’s Cross Plains Stingrays coaching team! I have been on Stingrays for twelve years and have loved every year even more than the last. I have no doubt this year will be another great year! The past 4 years as a helper coach and technical I have learned so much, and I am looking forward to using my experience as the 9-10 coach this season. I can’t wait to see all the new faces as well as the many returning ones! I know we will have an amazing team this year!

In addition to being a technical coach last year, I also swam on the Calvin University swim and dive team and through it have learned more about coaching and set planning. Most of my twelve years as a USA Swimming club swimmer I have qualified for State, and I hope to swim at D3 NCAA in the future. Other activities I enjoy include writing music, hiking, camping, solving puzzles and reading.

I hope that I will be able to use all that I have learned over my many years of swimming to help make our team stronger all while maintaining the fun atmosphere our team is known for. After a strange and difficult year, I am excited to have a normal summer and can’t wait to see everyone back and stronger than ever! I was devastated that we were unable to have fun days last year and hope to make this summer’s the best we’ve had yet! I am ready for another amazing season! Let’s go Stingrays!

Kaitlyn Peters:  Assistant Coach, 8 and Under Age Group Coach

Hi Stingrays! I’m Kaitlyn Peters and I am so excited to be a coaching 8 and unders this year! This is my third year as part of the coaching staff, but my ninth year of being apart of the Stingrays. I started swimming on the team as a 9-10, and haven't stopped since! Today, I also swim on the year-round club team, Waunakee Wave. I am a senior at Middleton High School, and here I have participated on both the varsity swim team and track team for my four years of high school. Next year, I will be attending University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. I will be a student athlete, swimming on their team and also majoring in Nursing. I couldn’t be more excited to be apart of their D1 athletic program and also amazing program for my major. I can’t wait for what this coming season has to hold! Go Sting!

Ian Bohachek: Helper Coach 11-12

Hi, I’m Ian Bohachek and I am excited to be returning as an 11-12 helper coach with Stingrays this year. I joined Stingrays when I was 6, and now I am 18, so this is my 13th season with our awesome team! I am a senior at MHS, and I have been on the cross country and track teams for 4 years in addition to the high school swim team. When I am not swimming, running or doing homework, you might find me playing the cello for the school orchestra, or solving problems with Future Problem Solvers.

I worked at the Cross Plains pool the last three summers, and I will be working there again this year. Working at the pool gave me the opportunity to help with swim lessons, and it was rewarding to help swimmers become more comfortable in the water. I look forward to helping the 11-12s grow and develop their swimming as well as continuing to experience the fun and friendships that swimming summers with Stingrays can bring.

Serena Haack:  Helper Coach 9-10

Hi, my name is Serena Haack and I am so excited to coach this summer! This will be my first time being a helper coach and I look forward to getting to know everyone in the age group. I am a junior at Middleton High School and outside of swimming I like going on walks with my dog, traveling,
bike rides, and hanging out with friends and family. The Stingray season is what I look most forward to every summer because it’s time that I get to spend with my close friends doing the sport I love. One thing I love most about the team is how close everyone becomes with one another as the season goes on. This team and community is so important to me and I couldn’t be more excited to contribute to it. Go Sting!
