2018 Coaching Staff:

Kendra Kalvin: Head Coach, 11-12 Age Group Coach

Hi, everyone! My name is Kendra Kalvin and I am very excited to begin my seventh year coaching with the Stingrays. This summer I will be returning to the Stingrays as the Head Coach for the third year and my second season as the 11-12 age group coach.  I am beyond ecstatic to be returning to Cross Plains for another amazing summer. This team means a lot to me and has always been a huge part of my life!
To share a little about myself, I am currently a super senior at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. I am working on a double major in Elementary Education and Spanish Education and I will (finally) be graduating in May 2018!!! I spent my last semester as a college student student-teaching in Houston, Texas.  While in Houston I have enjoyed teaching a 1st and 7th-grade class, spending time exploring the city and hanging out with my roommates. I am so excited to begin another amazing summer with this passionate, talented team! Please feel free to email, call or meet with me as I am more than happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns.

Halley Johnson: Assistant Coach, 15-18 Age Group Coach

Hello! My name is Halley Johnson and I am so happy to be joining you all this summer, as the 15-18 age group coach! This is my first year as a coach for the Stingrays and I am very excited to be back in my old stomping grounds. I once was a Stingray myself and spent many amazing summers learning and growing with this team. There are a lot of things that I took from my time here, that I use still to this day. The Stingrays are more to me than just a swim team, they’ve always been family. So needless to say, I am so pleased to be welcomed back into the family again. Thank you!

A little to share about my coaching history, after spending 15 summers and 4 years in high school competitively swimming, I went to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where I graduated with my BBA in General Management & Entrepreneurship. During my senior year, I was offered the assistant coaching position at Whitewater High School, for the Boys Swim team. Some highlights from my time there was. being able to take their first swimmer to the State meet, holding their first Conference swim meet, and my most memorable was that it showed me the love I have for coaching. After Whitewater, I decided I missed home and came back to Madison, and started as the head coach at Verona Area-Mt. Horeb (VAMH) High school, for the Women's swim team. Coaching for VAMH swim team allowed me to grow so much as a coach, and I will forever be grateful for my time there. Not only did the team make it possible for me to appreciate coaching even more, but I got to coach with a former Stingray swimmer, coach, and friend. Luke Lengfeld became my first choice for an assistant coach, and together, we were able to develop a swim team that achieved so many of their swimming and personal goals. We were able to do that because of the lessons we learned and time we spent as a Stingray. As a swimmer, I learned to be an all-around athlete; set goals, be determined, work hard, and I use that today as my coaching philosophy. I believe in being able to connect with my swimmers and develop a trust where we can achieve the goals they want and help them understand their passion for swimming.

As I have said many times, I am unbelievably excited to be welcomed into the Stingray family again and coach a talented group of kids! I am always open to conversation about any questions or concerns swimmers or parents may have, so please feel free to email, call or meet with me. Thanks again, and I know this summer will be full of hard work and lots of fun!

Jacob Aegerter:   Assistant Coach, 13-14 Age Group Coach

Hello! My name is Jacob Aegerter and this will be my second year as the 13-14 age group coach. I have been on the Stingrays ever since I was 6 and each year has been a blast can’t wait for this one. I currently attend UW-Stevens Point where I am studying Chemical Engineering and swim for the team at UWSP as well. I love dogs, ice cream, and spending time with family and friends. I am looking forward to this summer not just because I don’t have school but because I know this season will be incredible!

Erick Grelle:  Multi-Age Group Coach 9-10 & 11-12

Hi, my name is Erick Grelle. This year is going to be my 11th year as a Stingray. Unfortunately, last year was my last year swimming for the Stingrays but I'm excited to come back and coach.  This year I swam for UW-La Crosse. It has been a ton of fun and I can't wait to bring some of the things I've learned to the Stingrays.

A little bit more about me is that my major is Physics and I am loving it. Some of my hobbies are fishing, hunting and just about any sort of game you can think of, from cards to pickleball. I am super pumped to come back this summer and help out. This summer I will not just be coaching but I will also be working at the Cross Plains Pool. I look forward to seeing lots of smiles and dropped time.

Tryn Peterson:  Assistant Coach, 9-10 Age Group

Hello! My name is Tryn Peterson and I am thrilled to be starting my second year as the 9 & 10 age group coach!  Entering into my 16th year of involvement with the Cross Plains Stingrays, I am so excited to be able to contribute to the team that has shaped so much of my life and to make this season the best one yet!

Since joining the Cross Plains Stingrays at age four, I have been involved in the sport that I love. I swam club for 10+ years as well as for four years on the Middleton High School Varsity team. I am currently attending Concordia University Wisconsin working toward my accelerated Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy with a goal of working in pediatrics. In addition to my love of swimming, I enjoy talking with my family and friends, reading, writing, and hiking!

The Cross Plains Stingrays has been such an influential part of my life and I am so excited to be able to help contribute to such a wonderful team. I absolutely adore the people and the atmosphere that makes the program so unique and such a purposeful experience. I can’t wait to return to coaching the 9 & 10’s as they have so much enthusiasm for both having fun and truly improving in the sport. The 2018 season is going to be fantastic! When you say Cross Plains, you’ve said it all!

Samantha Roll: Assistant Coach, 8 & Under Age Group

Hi, my name is Samantha Roll and I am excited to return for my fifth season as a coach for the Stingrays. This will be my second year serving as the 8&Under age group coach, and I’m counting down the days until I can begin working with this amazing group of kids again!

I am currently a sophomore at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), majoring in Journalism and Public Relations, and finished my second season with the IUPUI swim team last February. My swimming career started with the Stingrays thirteen years ago, during which I quickly fell in love with the sport. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the Stingrays and the passion for swimming the team and community fostered in me. I can’t wait to share that passion with the kids or for the opportunity to once again be a part of such a wonderful, supportive community during this upcoming Stingray season.

Besides coaching this summer, you can also find me working at the Cross Plains Pool.  I'm looking forward to another amazing season as a member of the Stingray family!

Hannah Aegerter: Administrative Assistant & Helper Coach 11-12

Hi, my name is Hannah Aegerter and I am eager to be the administrative/ 11-12 helper coach this season. This will be my second season as a helper coach, last year I helped with the 8 & unders, and my first year being the administrative coach. Along with coaching, this will be my 12th season swimming for the Stingray team and I am super pumped to be contributing more to our fantastic swim team! I am currently a junior at Middleton High School and have been on the varsity swim team here for all three of my high school years, where we have won our high school state meet the past two seasons. Other than stingrays and my high school team, I am apart of a Club team called Madison Aquatic Club (MAC) that I swim year round with.

Being on the stingray swim team these past years has been such an amazing experience and opportunity. The coaching staff I had when I was growing up showed me how much fun swimming can be and how great of a sport it is, and they are the reason I stuck continued with this sport to the next level. I will strive to be as dedicated and passionate as my previous coaches have been. I can’t wait to be apart of another stingray season!

Emma Neumann: Helper Coach 9-10

My name is Emma Neumann and I am thrilled to be the 9-10 helper coach. This will be my second year as the 9-10 helper coach and my twelfth year swimming for the Stingrays. I have also swum for the Middleton High School Swim Team for the past four years. Besides swimming, I love reading, being outside, and playing the cello. This coming fall I will be attending the University of Wisconsin Madison as a biomedical engineering undergraduate, and this summer I will be working at the UW AIDS Vaccine Research Laboratory.

The Stingrays is a wonderful community of supportive and competitive swimmers that I have loved being a part of, especially as a coach. I am very glad that I am getting the chance to give back to the team and help the next generation of Stingrays become the best they can be in individual competition, team participation, creating a hard work ethic, and having a fun summer. I look forward to a wonderful season and can’t wait for it to start. Go Sting!

Forrest Peterson: Helper Coach 9-10

Hello, I’m Forrest Peterson, a sophomore at Middleton High School, and I am excited to be a part of this year’s Cross Plains Stingrays coaching team! I have been on Stingrays for nine years and have loved every year more than the last. I have no doubt this year will be another great year! Last year as a helper coach I learned so much, and I am looking forward to using my experience as a helper coach for this year’s 9-10s. I can’t wait to see all the new faces as well as the many returning ones! I know we will have an amazing age group this year!

In addition to being a helper coach last year, I also swam on the Middleton high school state team and through it have learned more about coaching and set planning. Most of my nine years as a USA Swimming club swimmer I have qualified for State. Other activities I enjoy include writing music, hiking, camping, solving puzzles and reading.

I hope that I will be able to use all that I have learned over my many years of swimming to help make our team stronger all while maintaining the fun atmosphere our team is known for. I have always loved the fun days, and I hope to go all out this year! I am ready for another amazing season! Let’s go Stingrays!

Sam Gessler:  Helper Coach 8 and Unders

Hi, my name is Sam Gessler, and I am looking forward to being a helper coach for the 8 & under age group this year! I will be a senior at Middleton High School this fall. This winter I swam on the Middleton High School Swim Team for the second time, which was a ton of fun. I am just finishing up classes and am looking forward to applying to colleges.

This will be my tenth summer swimming with the Stingrays and my second summer coaching! I have really enjoyed swimming for the Stingrays and the team has been a major part of my summers for many years. I also worked at the pool last summer as a lifeguard and swim instructor and will be working there again this summer. When I’m not in the pool, I enjoy spending warm summer days running, biking, and hanging out with friends.

I’m super excited to see everyone improve in the pool this summer and look forward to another great summer of Cross Plains swimming! Go Sting!

Makenna Licking:  Helper Coach 8 and Unders

Hi, my name is Makenna Licking and I can’t wait to be back for another year of coaching this team that I love so much! This season, I will be a helper coach for the 8 & Unders. Last year, our 8 & Unders made so much progress and I can’t wait to see what they can do again this year.  It’s always so fun to watch each of them grow and learn as the season goes on.   My goal is to share my drive and competitive swimming skills with all of the kids I coach, in hopes, that they end up loving swimming as much as I do.

I am currently finishing up my Junior year at Middleton High School. I have had the privilege of being a part of the Varsity and State Team for the three years I’ve been at Middleton High School. One of the most exciting things for me this year and last year was being a part of the Middleton State Team that won the state title two times in a row!  This has motivated me to become an even better swimmer not only in high school but club swimming and summer swimming.  When I’m not swimming or at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Looking forward to a GREAT 2018 season!!

Nicole McCue:  Helper Coach 8 and Unders

Hi, my name is Nicole Mccue and this is my second-year helper coaching the 8 and unders. My favorite part of coaching is getting to know each swimmer and watching them improve throughout the summer. It's so fun to be able to introduce kids to the sport of swimming and see them work hard as a team.

I've been swimming for the Stingrays since I was 8 years old and this is going to be my last season as a swimmer.  I'm excited to begin studying at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis this fall.  In my free time, I love hanging out with family and friends, running and visiting my cousins. Stingrays has been such an important part of my life and I can't wait for another great season!

Jon Roll: Helper Coach 8 and Unders

I can’t wait for the 2018 season. This is my first season of coaching, but my 10th on the Cross Plains Stingrays. I have also a part of the high school swim team.  I have worked at to pool for 4 summers now, and as of first semester, I am a certified Water Safety Instructor. Like I said above, I am really excited for this swim season. Go Sting!
